In this new story time segment, I wanted to spend some time featuring athletes who inspire at every level of life. Great athletes, sure. But also those who lived great lives!
In this first episode I decided to feature the life and accomplishments of Jim Thorpe, a hero and man of good character too. This is a brief history of his life and accomplishments. There is so much more that I couldn't include. But sufficeth to say, the more I read about him, the more impressed I've become. I recommend all take some time to learn about Jim and his history.
Written and narrated by Ryan Shanahan with excerpts taken from various online sources.
Some video footage is used from the Olympic game channel for the purpose of illustration and commentary, and falls under fair use of the patent law.

He was my father's (KIOWA TRIBE) hero. And he was most definitely my hero. And he's my sons hero too... We're all proud Oklahoma NDNs! My father actually met him at the American Indian exposition, in ANADARKO OKLAHOMA.

and he also played pro basketball, pro baseball, pro football, pro golf, won a national ballroom compeition. won a national yacht race and other things i can't even think of. also in that same olympics, he qualified for the individual high jump, long jump and 100 yard dash and placed 4th in high jump 7th in long jump and 11th in running. he would have gone to another olympic game but after he got back, the comittee discoverd he played baseball during the summer at that time and got paid 5 bucks for the summer which il isk 1000 dollars in 2023. not very much money. other people did that but did not use their real named. he had no idea about such things and was hoenst. but they stripped im of his medals even though bseball had zilch to do with the sports he compted in. and not returend to his family til like 20 years ago.

@@recsporteducation4594 you are elcome. oh i just looked up some stuff. he even did lacrosse . not professionaly but he played everything well. btw. you are most welcome. i got interested in him when i was young and my dad told me he was the greatest ever. and a few years ago i saw several vidoes on him and just kind of remember a bunch of these things. but i am sure if they were talked about that they are are probably pretty accurate.

You have done such a supremely well appointed narration of this man's span of life, a French-Potawatomi, Kickapoo & Sauk Fox man who was my grandmother's second cousin (Charlotte Vieux-descendant of French fur trader: Jacques Vieux). Your spoken grammer, with your words showing at times the inflections of an alert, inquisitive wildly collegiate, in a highly distinguished nerdy gentleman type feel I gather thru watching this twice now ...it made me emotional & yes I cried unexpectedly. You honor me and my Vieux-Wamego-Tomey-Nhoktonik Potawatomi & Kickapoo family by how you spoke to me..as you spoke to everyone who'll learn more about Mr. Thorpe as you speak to my cousin Jim Thorpe himself perhaps.. in your very words of genuine affection that is what I personally HEARD in your historical narration voice that pays such a modern tribute to his courage that must somehow be seen in me and you and his grandchildren the best athletic record scored and kept that retells upon each generation ; his resolve & our American amidexterity cannot be beaten as we turn our face to our foe and only see the faces of all our many friends. Thank you for giving Jacobus Thorpe an up to date, modern new and younger collegiate styled voice. Who he was and what he stood for speaks thru you. I like that. ✌Hon. K.C Eisenberger from Oklahoma, Lost Territories.
