With all the Pearl Jam covers I've been reacting to, I was wondering when someone would want me to react to one of their originals. Luckily a fan of the channel suggested I do exactly that, and even suggested this particular song. So here we go into the realm of Pearl Jam originals. NOT Alive, NOT Even Flow, NOT Jeremy...(definitely not Jeremy). Let's see how this goes, shall we?
Come on in, enjoy the show....I'll see you inside.
Scoring System Guide
10 = Perfection (Unobtainable)
9.0 - 9.9 = Awesome, Amazing
8.0 - 8.9 = Great
7.0 - 7.9 = Really Good
6.0 - 6.9 = Pretty Good
5.0 - 5.9 = O.k.
4.0 - 4.9 = Not So Good
3.0 - 3.9 = Pretty Bad
2.0 - 2.9 = Really Bad
1.0 - 1.9 = Horrible, Awful
0.0 - 0.9 = A Travesty, An Affront To Nature
PS: Stick around to see the end of the video. I added some bloopers and outtakes and made a gag reel of sorts (LOVED the bloopers and outtakes at the end of the Cannonball movies, figured I'd give it a shot) Let me know what you think. Do they add to the presentation? Do the detract from the show? Are they irrelevant? Let me know in the comments what you think of them, whether or not you enjoyed them, and whether or not I should continue doing them.

Yeah man basically his homage to those two. Interestingly his pre-Pearl Jam favorite style was more Van Halen. But when he joined up he realized the band needed this sound so adjusted. Pretty great testament to his versatility

Like others have said, I wouldn't recommend this as an entry into Pearl Jam originals. This song is exclusively played at the end of their concerts, they turn on the lights, say goodnight to the crowd, and it's a way to ease the crowd out of the show feeling good. I might suggest Rearview mirror, a live version. There's a good version from Madison Square Garden, same crowd as one of the covers you reacted too.

Thanks for the review of my request. Hey personal taste is personal taste. No biggie. The lyrics have changed over the years. In this original that you just reviewed the lyric was not about a soldier returning in a box or a bag (that is the most common lyric now) but was that he wasn't sure if he was the boxer or the bag, as in the one throwing punches or being hit. But before I get mobbed by other commenters, I'll clarify that this was in a list of suggestions of original PJ songs that I think are all great and worth reviews. The guitar tones and the tone of Eddie's vocals are what stand out in this track. Given your preference for strong baselines I second the commenter who suggested a live version of Daughter. They often mix in a verse of Neil Young when they do it live. I Got Id (radio name for the song actually titled I Got Sh1t) is another great one. Also Corduroy off of the album Vitalogy. Rearview Mirror is a great break up tune and very focused on the baseline. Glad you are giving PJ a chance to win you over.

It is definitely a chill song, I used to listen to it in my room a lot. May be why you had that nagging of not knowing if you had heard it, background music most likely blaring from my room 😂 There are a lot of songs old, new, and in-between that you would like better. I’m sure over time you will end up hearing them all on this channel. They have such a unique mix of styles, hard, soft, fast, slow; mosh pit or make out songs. They have I believe 120 original songs, something for everyone. I’ll keep sending some your way, I saw great suggestions from others also, one of them Corduroy live I already requested with a link in that other post. Keep it up bro.

Oh those 120 songs are the album songs they have a ton of songs that didn’t make it to studio albums. They released a album with a bunch of the b side tracks also. They do the ten club singles also, and of course the cover material catalog. They have well over 200 songs to pull from. Their average set lists for shows are 25 songs and last between 2-3 hours.
@thistlestalk3289

This song is an improve, Mike McCready started playing a Hendrix type riff and everyone started jamming. Eddie started improving vocals, that is why it sounds like he isn't saying anything at times. This was a b-side that wasn't released on an album till they did a double album of a collections of b-side songs (Lost Dogs). I have never considered Pearl Jam Grunge. They just happened to come out of Seattle about the same time as Nirvana hit, to me they are more like classic rock, they also have such a variety of sounds and tempos. You should do Pearl Jam "Black" MTV Unplugged 1992 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aYnzg_TFfGA.html ( Pritty much anything from this show is great, or "Rearvewmirror" album version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nLsnJAj5cms.html or "Inside Job" is a good one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XfShR-wY8oQ.html for a cover with a killer guitar solo try Pearl Jam Little Wing live 1995 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9RvklJDkDSw.html though my favorite guitar solo from theme is the solo at the end of "Black"from Live on Two Legs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--nNNvoi67xU.html no video only audio but worth it. The band members hadn’t really planned on recording this song during the session as they were only in the beginning stages of making the lyrics work with the instrumental. They hadn’t polished the lyrics. It’s said that Eddie simply mumbled to make the lyrics work. Eddie has always been known to mumble but this is the reason it’s so accentuated in this song. That’s also part of the lore of this song. It was only released as side b of a single yet considered a masterpiece in some circles...obviously not yours but that’s cool. I can appreciate that you clearly love music.

Wouldn’t have been my 1st choice to introduce Pearl jam original stuff - great song I love it, but as mentioned a B-side. I don’t think Eddie flex’s vocally as much IMO guitars are great definite hendrix vibe, it’s epic live as a closer! Here is some suggestions for some tracks (2 from each album) you might want to check out - trying to steer away from singles you many have heard. But trying to give a good cross section of styles. you’ll find a good live version of most but album versions work too. Maybe you can hit a bunch of them in one vid. Ten: Porch, Garden Porch live @ MTV Unplugged or Pink pop 92 Vs: Blood, Indifference Live version of blood from New Zealand is great 1996 I think. Vitalogy: Last Exit, Corduroy Corduroy live at Wrigley field 2016 (let’s play two video) No Code: In my Tree, Present Tense In my tree - live @MSG Yield: Brain of J, MFC Brain of Live Washington ‘98 (Tibetan freedom concert) Binaural: light Years, soon Forget Light Years live Buffalo NY Riot Act: Green disease, Save You Green Disease Live @MSG Self Titled (Avocado): inside Job, Life Wasted Life wasted Live on Letterman Backspacer: Force of Nature, Just Breathe. (FON album version) Lightning Bolt: Mind your Manners, My Fathers Son (Mind your manners official video) Gigaton: Quick Escape, Dance of the Clairvoyants. (Quick escape official visualiser) 👍

Pearl Jam is a special group. Yes they made it through the grunge era, where a lot of similar bands didn’t... but thats not what makes them so great. It’s their live shows IMO. For one, they never play the same set. Also, their shows are long. I saw them play in SF, the show was almost 3 hours long. They don’t charge an arm and a leg to see them (and they could). My wife paid $300 for floor seats to go see NKOTB (how we are married, I’ll never know) I paid $85 for floor seats for PJ. They interact with the audience, and give you this feeling like you are in their living room listening to them jam. Clearly I’m a fan, but I promise, there is no bias here. I have see plenty of great concerts in my life, so I have plenty of comparisons. I put these guys right up there with Metallica and NIN, concert wise. I know you aren’t a fan, but if you are curious about becoming one, go to a live show. It will completely change your mind about them.

Solid review. Just shows music is subjective - you can appreciate a song, just don't have to be crazy in love about everything. If you want to get back into covers Chris Cornell does some sweet acoustic versions of Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" and a stripped down version of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". While also doing the best version of "nothing compares to you." For Pearl Jam originals "Porch" live at Pinkpop '92 is the classic song that just shows their energy for a live show

I can't speak for him but his former neighborhood in San Diego deals with a lot of that. So he may have based it on that.

@@christianeflentie1228 Best way would be to find a couple of their most popular tunes and send me the link, and I'll take it from there. Like 2 from each band would be good, I know narrowing it down to just 1 each might be kind of tough.

Yep to the comments below you long silver haired virtuoso, Hendrix and some SRV licks Mike McCready is the most underrated guitar playing today.

If you enjoyed this tune, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-42cIXwytCx8.html . About McCready, Cornell said that when he met Mike for the first time and rehearsing for Temple of the Dog album, he thought “this dude have mental problems” because was like being possesed by demons while playing guitar. I think Chris was right. No doubt

It's fine, I'm positive I pissed someone off on RU-vid and they just go through and hit the thumbs down on every video I put out. Some people can't handle brutal honesty, and they have nothing better to do, soooooooooooo they do that. Whatever makes them happy, I guess.

@THEDavidHeretic
@THEDavidHeretic 3 года назад
Sorry to hear you feel that way Eric. I'm sorry but I'm not following what you mean by my "know-it-all attitude", as I have never claimed to know it all, especially about music. I'm learning new things about music everyday, like for example, I've found a new respect for Pearl Jam as musicians and even more so as live performers. They all have great feel, the rhythm section is always on lock, Mike MeCready is a seriously underappreciated guitarist, and Eddies vocal ability and talent are top notch. I would never have discovered these facts, had it not been for the fans recommending I check out their songs and their performances. So there's no way I could ever claim to be a know-it-all, only a fool would ever make such a claim. I think what happened here was I was objective in my review, I spoke my mind, and gave thoughtful and inciteful feedback in my review...which is something I know a lot of other reactors don't do. The good news is, there are literally hundreds of other reactors out there you can watch and enjoy, who have absolutely no knowledge about the music industry, and who will absolutely love every single thing they watch and react to....whether they really like it or not, because all they care about is getting their "subscriber" number up as high as they can. I'm sorry, but I refuse to be one of those fake reactors who love everything, who don't have the guts or brains to say what they really think, and pretend to like something just to keep their "subscribers" numbers up and growing. Like I have said from the beginning, I would rather have 500 genuine fans who really love what I do, than 500,000 fly-by-nighters who casually swing by my page and like a video without even really watching it. Furthermore I'm not going to apologize for the fact that I have over 25 years of experience in the music industry as a professional musician, who has played in clubs from as little as 10 people, to stadium festivals in front of over 100,000 people. I'm not going to apologize for having studied music extensively from the age of 3, on a multitude of instruments from the clarinet, to the trumpet, the trombone, to the tube, to the marimba, to the piano, to the vibraphone, to the cello, to the upright contrabass, to the guitar, to the bass guitar. Lastly, I'm not going to change what I do. I've had dozens of people comment about how much they love the fact that I do go so in-depth into the songs. They love that I break down each section, that I go into details on the bridges and the versus and the choruses and the breakdowns. They love that I am willing to share my knowledge of music theory, talking about dynamics and syncopations and accents and tempo. I've even had people in the fanbase who have thanked me for educating them on what the parts of the songs are called, because they've never known what a bridge is, or what a pre-chorus is, or what the difference is between a verse and a chorus. In closing, if you don't like my channel and how I react to and review material, that's o.k. Like I say at the end of every video, I still respect you. However, I will gladly recommend that you find one of those other reactors who love everything they watch, have no knowledge of the industry, only care about keeping their "subscription" number growing as high as possible, and spend time being happy watching their channel. Best of luck to you, and I sincerely hope you find a channel you can enjoy. DH
