Rip Jeff Beck. This is a beautiful rendition. Since I was sixteen in 73, I’ve wanted this song played at my funeral. My deepest sympathies to his loved ones and family.
I'm 73 years old and crying listening to this masterpiece while thinking of my five dogs who have climbed the stairway over the past 26 years. Hoping to meet up with them when it's my turn.
This was my first concert. I was 12. My mom loved Zep and when she heard Jimmy was going to be touring with Eric and Jeff she got tickets. I'll never forget it.
Led Zeppelin was at my first concert in Philadelphia in 1969. I went to see Zeppelin, but the show also included Jethro Tull, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter and Al Kooper. I bought a front row seat at the door for $6.50, the place wasn't even half full. They were using the revolving stage and it quit revolving during Zeppelin's set, luckily it broke when they were facing me. :)
He was handed an out of tune 12 string. Nothing he could do. He always played a little sloppy though too. That was one of the cool things about his parts. They were human. Take care.
Lucky you...How I wish I saw them at least once! I was too young to attend one of the concerts before they split but I cannot stop blaming myself I did not go to O2 Arena Wembley in 2007..actually I only recently became a strong fun of theirs.
I introduced my granddaughter to these (and other) amazing guitarists at a very early age….3. We watched this together today. Later on in the day she asked which one of the three was the best one out of these three men. My answer was “yes”
Jimmy Page is a genius. I'm absolutely mesmerized by him. Can't wait to learn this song on my first guitar I bought today. I listen to Stairway to heaven every day.
Does anyone realize that Jimmy Page every time he plays any song live he's telling what looks like his story while playing its kind of hard to explain but it's there. That magic!!!!!
That, what you call magic is drunk. He is just drunk. His guitar is out of tune and he plays shit. Are you fanboys drunk too? I mean I am right now. But I can still hear when someone plays shit. And I love Page. But look at Clapton and Jeff Beck and see how they feel pity
@@andyhamilton8940 my opinion on this has changed a lot since i commented that, at the moment my top 5 is probably something like: Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia and Randy Rhoads
One has to have lived through one's high school years under the influence of Zep to understand how these lines and choruses impacted us...there is simply no other way to describe the experience. Zep were the magisters of millions of basement toking parties, and psychedelic introspective mind-orgies...they inadvertently formed a bond between all rock-heads who heard and succumbed to these lyrics and riffs...thank the forces of nature that brought Jimmy, Robert, John and John together....
I have always believed too that it takes some kind of scientific experience or karma that brings these particular people (plant page bonham jones) together to make this beautiful music)
And they bitch about a free video, of a concert they didn't go to, with tutorials to play it on any instrument-for FREE...and they don't have to sit and transcribe the lyrics!
Under the influence of Zep? I was a teenager in the 70's and though I loved the band their albums got progressively worse as the decade wore on. And who hangs their hat on just one band? Mind-orgies? And they didn't inadvertently do anything, as they stole most of their classic riffs from blues artists without attribution.
Certainly three of the top five rock guitar players to ever bless us with their musical talent! RIP, Mr. Beck, and may you rock on in Heaven forever! Jimi and Stevie are looking forward to jamming with you...
This was a bad time for Jimmy. So glad he made it through. He is still the best riff writer and guitarist ever in History. Had the heroin taken him down it would have been such a loss. Much later with the No Quarter and unplugged stuff when he got completely clean, was his best sound ever.
I'm listening to this and it seems like he's drugged out. He seems to lose what he's doing a couple times. It was hard to watch. It's really tragic what happened to not only him but that group, but especially Jimmy for the survivors since John died at Jimmy's house. I can't imagine the emotional wreck he was after that.
NO HE'S NOT THE BEST RIFF GUITARIST IN HISTORY!! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND? have you ever heard jimi hendrix? hendrix is the best fucking guitarist and song writer of all muscial styles, hands down. i saw hendrix inn toronto in 1969 and i've seen zeppelin in new york in 1974and i'll tell ya. nobody could hold a candle to jimi. when hendrix died so did music.and he only produced three albums.
My LIFE has been lifted by Jimmy's guitar so MANY times...just his name gets my heart smiling! I will NEVER forget , I was standing in front of our empty school in edenton n.c. , it was summer and whole lotta love hit the air around me..and I was swept up..still not ever coming down! Listen to his live work on " How the West was Won" ..
Well out of the three of them he was the one to stay clear of heroin. I was always amazed just how old John Lennon looked in the Let it Be movie. when I found out he was well into his heroin addiction I though oh that is why.
Jimmy page is my favourite guitar player. He just let his guitar speak. It’s not just about your own skills but about what you can show, feelings you can give through your music. It’s pure energy. Dope.
one of my all time favorites - but I saw him round this time in New Orleans touring solo, doing stairway with no vocals like this, it was a bad time for him, so wasted on whatever drugs, it was scary, I thought he's going to be dead in a few weeks, but no, he's still here, the 07 reunion was awesome - so glad he got through that period.
Oh for a New Day, when music once again becomes "Vital". Music dug-up from the soul and performed for the masses. Songs that are still played on the radio 50 years later. Real music.
Saw LZ a total of 9 times up and down the West Coast, and we had a VW bus that we would paint with all our favorite bands, best road trips we ever had.
Yeah that will be an amazing tribute to our lives. Living on Earth in Hell is a drag. I'm not afraid to step up to Heaven where music like this exists in eternity. 🕊🕊🕊😊
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forest will echo with laughter If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, It's just a spring clean for the May Queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to heaven
All my guitar heroes seem to be leaving the planet too early , sadly. Such great influences on my life and such beautiful music and memories I have been blessed with.Thank you so very much. R. I.P Mr Jeff Beck. Such an innovative and unique artist. Always loved your music!! Thank you!!!!!!❤
Rip Jeff Beck. I was just coming into the rock as a pre-teen! He was my first rocker crush as well. It is So sad he is gone. My deepest sympathies to his family.
im proud to say i was able to see the arms concert in this era at the LA forum and was the first time i had a chance to see the lead guitar wizard Jimmy Page doing his magic and will never forget this as long as i live along with all the other greats on stage that played with him for a benefit concert for Ronnie Lane back in the day . it sure would be nice to see all theses guys do this once again before they are no longer
I recall Pagey playing "Stairway" as an encore during the The Firm tour in May '85. He told the audience - "Sing along, I don't know the words!" Great moment.
@@kevinsalazar7937 but audience paid for performance! or was he playing for free? it was his fucking job, so like any other.. you not supposed at least take a piss of it.
Wow!, 3 great guitarists in 1 performance. Jimmy Page was great! Eric Clapton filled the rest and he was great. You could even hear Jeff Beck in the middle. They had their own styles. Jimmy Page will bring you with his guitar playing of harmonic melodies and bring you smoothly along the road. Then Eric Clapton bring emotions and delivery while he is playing and finish the song. Jeff Beck's guitar playing has more rock, power and some ROAR! Unbelievable performance from all 3 great guitarists. I have seen Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton's performances are most versatile in playing style, and how they deliver with passion and improvisations.
Des légendes de la guitare merveilleux titre cela fait du bien de réentendre se morceau que j'aime énormément à écouter sans modération vraiment surtout se titre
I was at this concert in the Madison square garden had great seats..also saw them there in “77” . I am a diehard LED fan.Love everything they do thanks
I'm 23 and played guitar most of my life and been a fan of zeppelin and Jimmy page since day 1 of playing, only become a fan of Clapton recently and realising he was part of the yardbirds is awesome!! I could imagine the tunes they would've made if they stayed together
It was the most requested song on FM radio stations in the United States in the 1970s, despite never having been commercially released as a single in the US
@@freakyrawen at least someone in this comment section gets it. Add the ridiculously sloppy playing to an out of tune guitar and you get this performance. Drugs sure wreck a person.
I'm 72 and from Santa Cruz, Ca. I saw Led Zeplin everytime they played in the bay area and twice in NYC. I would stand in front of Jimmy Page and watch him play. God, it was great.
And of all the greatness on that stage... . , It really is Jeff Becks playing that seems to put the background satisfying sound in it! All 3 greats,. But Jeff Becks a legend of so many sounds of 5 decades! And deserves his right in the Rock and roll hall of Fame! 🎶🎸
