One of the men who was convicted of Dr. Teresa Sievers' murder in June 2015 will be sentenced today. Jimmy Rodgers was found guilty of second-degree murder.
I had a shitty childhood as well, lots of drama in my life and lots of abuse, but doesn't give anyone the right to take someone else's life period? You can't blame your childhood for your actions as an adult!
When they talked about his childhood trauma. You would think bashing in someone's head, or even seeing someone's head bashed in, would be traumatic, but it wasn't with him. He was in a convenience store smiling, shortly afterwards
It dawned on me, as well. His trauma? What kind of a childhood will the Sievers' daughters have, now since their mother was murdered and their lousy dad is in prison? That's pretty traumatic.
The brother was only 7 when his mother had her breakdown but he keeps saying his childhood was different than Jimmy. When you are 7 you are still a very young child....they just want everyone to think “poor Jimmy” but the brother is an attorney and hasn’t murdered anyone yet... ironic theory...
For those that are unclear of the sentence- @1:50:44 the Judge says, "I am going to sentence him as a PRR. I am going to adjudicate him guilty of both counts." That is legalize for "I am giving him Life without the possibility of parole." - ("Prison Releasee Reoffender (PRR) Life Felony. Life with no parole")
To object during a mother’s statement is deplorable! I try to separate the defense attorneys from the defendant, but that was so unnecessary and cruel.
Jimmys childhood doesnt excuse murder by any means but his upbringing and him being told to kill himself at age 5 and all the other horrible things jimmy endured as a child definitely shaped his morals and desecrated his self esteem. How we treat our children shapes the world.
No excuse. My mother was in and out of psych wards most of my life. I too got up and fed myself, many meals, but I NEVER killed or even physically harmed anyone.
@JusticeAA what else? They didn't charge him with the conspiracy although Wright said he was in on it and they didn't charge him with the weapon although Wright said she died from Jimmy swinging it.
No disrespect intended....I am retired from medical profession. Dr. Sievers sister may have a thyroid issue....hope someone sees this comment and advises her to check with a doctor.------God bless the Sievers family
The most important thing missing in all the sievers trials, is that Curtis Wayne Wright is getting away too easy. As the real murderer, Wright deserves the death penalty. This instead of the too lenient plea deal he now has (25 yrs maximum).
Erik S that is the way it works here in USA, whomever makes the deal first gets the better deal: think of Patrick S whom killed Kelsey? That nurse only gets 3 years after attempting to kill her 3 x and could have saved her life. They call it making a deal with the DEVIL
I agree, the prosecution team was strong and smooth and factual. But I also couldn’t envision a better defense team. Mr Rodgers was a lucky man...he initially could have ended up swinging from the old oak tree.
Most people in the world have some kind of trauma in their lives yet they don’t end up murdering people... It’s such a farce and giving excuses for him committing this heinous crime. He was the one who wouldn’t stop beating the dr. over and over. He should of been charged with first degree in my opinion. He is also a repeat felon.
Also: i had always had the impression that CWW picked him as his driver&assistant because he was not the sharpest knife in the drawyer and seemed to me like someone who would look up to a much older, cool guy. CWW has very human sides to him but this was really evil. Nobody could convince me that Jimmy Rodgers would have committed murder like this in his lifetime if not for somebody to lead him.
I feel soooo bad for his brother. He feels so guilty but he was also just a young boy and then 23 year old from a broken home. Aund i also do feel very bad for the boy jimmy. Of course there's - no - excuse for what he did (assuming he really did what CWW said, i'm still not convinced he is saying the truth in all details) but he really had pretty much everything in his life going against him.
No, Sievers will be on death row I believe its at Raiford prison. I dont know if there are any other prison in FL with death row. I think they will try and protect CWW from JR
Sylvia Shiell: Ok, if you’re using earbuds, try using actual Apple product. There’s a huge difference. I have a Windows laptop with a sound system so bad you couldn’t hear an atomic explosion on it. It’s a Lenovo (formerly IBM) and it chugs along like something out of the 80s. I use it only for billing, etc for work because I don’t need the sound and I can make breakfast while it fires up. It’s less than 2 years old. I also have an iPad about 2 yrs old and I use it for absolutely everything other than my business. The sound is great, especially with Apple earphones. There seems to be an issue with impedance matching with generic or other brand earphones and very little difference in price. It is a joy to use. Both comps cost about the same amount.
The issue with the defense mitigation expert is that it is two sided. Putting on an expert to explain that his actions are the result of anoxia from birth is a huge risk. Rogers had so many strikes against him. There was his birth anoxia. The cord issue likely explains the special ed. There is a strong familiar predisposition toward schizophrenia. (Both mom & mom’s sister?!? Yikes!) I seriously doubt his mom was the first family member to commit suicide, too. All of these things certainly count against him being a “normal” kid. The fact that it may go a long way to explain why he did what he did would also lead a judge to make certain that he wasn’t eligible for parole. With our current level of technology, brain injury is simply not treatable. It’s very sad that he wasn’t picked up by the mental health system before he did this. He was prescribed Lexapro & Busbar but the expert wasn’t able to determine why he wasn’t taking his meds. Was it out of ignorance? Was it religious? Was it bc he couldn’t pay for it? In this country, the poorer you are the less available mental health services are. It’s very possible that Dr. Sievers might still be alive if Rogers had better mental health services. Very sad!!
JusticeAA Can you tell me where in the sentencing the judge says WITHOUT parole? I only heard life in prison which means that there is a possibility of parole.
There’s no telling what CWW instilled in J. R . mind that TS was doing to her daughters and it fueled the trauma childhood pain J.R. went through. I don’t excuse murder ever, but I don’t agree with his verdict when CWW got 25. But me personally, I’d take DP over life in prison any day! Prison is far worse than most people know!!!
Would u want him as a neighbor some day? I wouldn't. He thought nothing of ambushing and hitting a small, defenseless woman w a hammer. He's dangerous.
This is strange... 47:32 The mother says: “Jimmy Rodgers killed my daughter” Then defense correctly objects. In my opinion a correct objection because Rodgers was only found guilty of 2nd degree murder. But the Judge still overrules the objection?! Why on earth is that?!
