Well, I think that Jinhao have their first reply to Hong Dian for Chinese history commemoratives! I have read (first in 1973) On the Long March with Chairman Mao, and so understand the commemoration. I won't be surprised if we learn that this is a big seller on the mainland. I say so not supporting the current regime since 1948, but here is the pen. This is a mighty fine pen at a very fair price. Your review, Chris, does it, and we lovers of fountain pens, complete justice. Thank you! Oh, and, Sunny Orange was a great choice!
Nice review of an addition to the growing list of #8 sized nibbed pens. The history link was a nice touch. The only thing that still confuses me is why the guitar clip?
I just got mine. I haven't inked it yet, but will do so shortly. The pen is a great buy and holds as much ink as piston filler pen, more so than the TWSBI ECO. Thanks for the link in the relevance of 1935. I appreciate it. It is history that is not taught in school, here.
Great review Chris. It's so interesting to see the different reviews, and what the various opinions are. It's so much fun to get a pen that's as unusual as this one.
Thank you for your review of this pen. You’re right, at its price and with its features, you can’t go wrong. I’m happy to see Jinhao releasing more models with their unique large-capacity cartridge converter, which holds more ink than many pens with built-in piston-filling systems. A review of this pen on the Une Fontaine de Plumes channel (in French but with good English subtitles) was also generally positive but suggested that it may have a structural weakness: the clear plastic part of the barrel seemed to him to be thinner than that of the #9019 Dadao. He thought this had been done to accommodate the large converter into a narrower pen and wondered if this thinner plastic might break more easily. So far he has had no cracks or breaks. I wonder if that clear barrel section looks thinner to you as well. Of course I have ordered this pen.
The barrel wall is thinner than 9019, doesn't equate to cracking. I expect it will hold up as well as 9019. I'm not one to speculate on what could happen, too many possibilities.
This is a Jinhao pen that is not inspired by another western grail pen and only shares a star from the Hongdian 100. Is Jinhao turning a page into unique design territory? Probably not. I have this pen on order but I doubt I would get more than one pen of this model - similar to the Hongdian 100. Still it is a respectable effort and I look forward to a hands on experience soon. Thank you for this review!
I understand this pen is a great writer, and I do love my Jinhao pens. But this is one Koolaid I won’t drink. Now, take away the star, guitar and swords, make some different colors and I’ll take a sip. But that’s just my opinion.
