Jinjer - Wallflower I Singer Reacts I 

This is why I love Jinjer. Who else would write a a metal song about an introvert with writer's block. All genres of music must experiment with themes and structure or they will stagnate.

Objectively, this song is about being a wallflower (term for introvert). Personally, it resonates me as being about depression, and how the outside world means a lot and nothing for you at the same time. Your cocoon, bedroom, house, is the best place for you to be, but at the same time, you just lick your wounds as you wish to disappear from this uncomfortable world because: "i've never asked to be here, i've had enough from the beginning"

Originally the song was supposed to be called "introvert" but someone told her there was an English word "wallflower" which means the same thing. The word isn't used as much any longer because the days of people putting flowered wallpaper on their wall are gone. The idea is that a "wallflower" blends into the flowers on the wallpaper in social situations because they don't like being around large gatherings of people. They stay in the corner and try to blend in to the surroundings hoping nobody notices them. The song is also about her procrastinating over getting her lyrics written for the album (hence the band showing up to hound her). Those situations go hand in hand. The artwork is sand painting. Monks do it to practice discipline and concentration. Sand is poured gently into intricate patterns and then when the piece is done the point is to wipe it away and destroy it. There is a "making of" video for this where it shows them shooting the video. Tatiana is running up and down stairs in the video so that she's out of breath for the first part.

This song is all about Tatiana's feeling when she has to write lyrics: The band writes the music and send it to Tatiana for the lyrics. But Tatiana procrastinates (when she is chilling in the clip) a lot, like even writting the lyrics in the studio right before singing...and the boys are always chasing her for the lyrics. So she is under pressure and sometime just yell at them and over react (the guns in the video). All ends when she finally deliver the lyrics (her art she 's been building all along the clip and finally she through to the band so they disapear). The song itself is really deep and personal for Tatiana and the video is really imaging the lyrics very well.

In the video, there's a direct correlation to the pressure she felt for procrastinating lyric writing for the album to the last second. Her bandmates pursue her, pressure her. The bullets (sharp words) at them do nothing, but then she sees the wolves on the wall, realizes her defensive anger and her over-reaction in a situation she herself created ("turning mole hills into mountains"), and throws "her art" (metaphor for the lyrics they want) at the band and they go away. The wolf story (below) is critical to understanding her internal conflicts as displayed by the wolf art. I'm 58 years old, I love this band, and I'm from Poland, so the vibes are close to me and the most important in my opinion as I'm an introvert I finally found an introvert anthem... it's this song :) Brilliant band

I'm no expert, but I think Tibetan sand mandalas are painstakingly created, with each coloured grain of sand representing a healing intention, and put into a symbolic design. When the design is finished, it is consecrated, then the grains of sand are swept up, symbolizing the impermanence of life, and the sand is dispersed into a body of flowing water, symbolizing the spreading of the healing properties to the rest of the world. The mandala here could represent the work she puts into her lyrics.

I love the non stop build of this song. It is so subtle that you almost don't even notice. Awesome reaction as always!

i always resonate so much with the lyrics from Jinjer as a Pisces and an introvert

In the box is her art (the lyrics she writes), and Tati says she tends to procrastinate. So the guys are harassing her over and over until she gets the work done. Then they leave her alone.

My understanding is this song is Tati's interpretation of their song production process, where they write and record the music, and then it's Tati's job (generally) to write lyrics and record the vocal tracks. And she is a procrastinator, so this is what it feels like to her as she reaches deadlines and they start pressuring her. It's more of a personal reflection of her and her own behavior patterns than an indictment of the band for pressuring her. The wolves are the simple duality of man I'm not sure about the box, but I see it as a metaphor for her being an introvert. She just wants to stay home a work on her crafts, be it the sand art, or the tailoring, or whatever. And the world around her wants her to finish the music. This is being portrayed as "her bandmates trying to take her box of goodies"...IDK, but that's how I see it.

Just remember, everything with Jinjer is personal. Tati is having a moment whenever she writes anything.

4:15 closes the curtain - "it's getting darker now"

Enjoy your reactions, especially Jinjer reactions. The lyrics to virtually all of Jinjer's music is very poetic and tells a story, some stories are much "deeper" like Wallflower, and some not quite as deep, but they are all stylistically are poetically written stories. Unfortunately, too many people are focused solely on Tati's amazing voice and vocal range and the phenomenal composition and musicianship of the band that they don't take the time to learn the lyrics or to try and understand them. Something Tati has said in more than one interview I've seen is that she really likes and enjoys it when an audience knows the lyrics to their songs, she is telling a story, often personal and wants to share it with them. As for the meaning of the lyrics (and the video), Tati is the main songwriter, although Eugene does contribute sometimes. Tati writes a lot about her personal feelings, life, and the world around her as it relates to her, the band, and people. She is also a self-proclaimed introvert, which may seem odd for someone as amazingly talented who spends her life in front of huge crowds and does interview after interview. She has always loved singing and performing, but really has not sought fame. Jinjer's songwriting process is a bit different than many or even most bands in that Vlad (Drummer) composes the music with Eugene (Bassist) and Roman (Guitarist), and then they give the demos of the musical compositions to Tati for her to write the lyrics. The lyric writing process for Tati is one she admits to procrastinating, and she really seems to work best under pressure and deadlines. However, this does not mesh well with her introvert nature, because she always feels the pressure to produce the song lyrics whether that be internalized pressure or pressure from the other band members. In the video for Wallflowers, the black and white represents an introvert with "low batteries," that's why the color shows up in everything once she gets inside her house. The box represents the words and phrases she constantly collects for future use. The sand art (sand and instruments are in that red box) and the sand art portrait she is creating in the video are representative of the lyrics for a song and/or album. So as she's creating her art, the lyrics, you see clips of Roman, Eugene, and Vlad and she looks over her shoulder at them and the music gets a little more tense and she has a more tense look on her face. As an introvert, she really NEEDS her alone time to be able "recharge her batteries" as she says in the song, so having anyone/anything interrupting that alone/creative time causes her anxiety and stress. As the video continues you see the band members at the door and she EXPLODES into her famous growls and screams. Then they are inside the house and she just can't take it anymore. She gets the guns and tries to stop the noise and outside world from intruding on her recharge time but no matter how many times she shoots you notice the bullets just bounce off them. Then she goes to the beautiful sand art and scoops it all together and throws it at them and they disappear. She has delivered to them her art, the lyrics to the music, and they are appeased and leave her to her "down time." As for the wolves on the wall, the black one representing her time out in the world and the white one representing her "me time." As the world starts to come into her space you see the black wolve getting more aggressive and its eyes turning red, that's the stress and anxiety coming into her "space" and the white wolf appears to back down somewhat timidly. Once the lyrics are delivered you see them both back to being calm and the red eyes are gone, her personal "balance" has been restored. That's also why the white wolf is a little crooked at the beginning of the video, it is foreshadowing the upcoming lack of balance she is soon to face in her life as an introvert. I was going to write a comment about the song because it is so deep, but the comments that were already here were so on point. The song does tell a story in metaphor but, focuses on Tatiana’s emotions, like a lot of Jinjer songs it is different and unexpected and a work of art. The more you get into Jinjer the more you find it’s an adventure and a thrill ride combined.

I think Tati and Corey Taylor my Fav. growlers cause both of their annunciation so clear some singers I struggle to hear the vocal words in the growl. Looking forward to the next one!

I'm sure the meaning behind the song has been well explained by now so, on to other info. The music during the credits is a small, looped sample from "Pearls and Swine", another track from the album "Wallflowers". Sadly there is no official video for it yet, and I doubt there will be anytime soon. Jinjer is busy touring as musical ambassadors of Ukraine. Though I'd love to see videos for several other tracks from Wallflowers, what they're doing right now is much more important.

A man chasing a woman down a road. That can't be good. But I think they're actually trying to help her. She wants to be alone to lick her wounds, and being dragged out of her shell seems threatening. Introverts sometimes like solitude, but you can have too much of a good thing. I think that's where the good and bad wolf come in. Too much time alone with your thoughts can turn you against your own mind. This is like an introvert anthem. Very relatable.

6:35 The 3 guys from Bullet For My Valentine had pretty clear pronunciation on their screams, maybe the bassist a little less. But that's the band that got me into metal besides Pantera and a big part of that was that you could actually understand what they were screaming

I’m seeing Jinjer live this Tuesday! So excited!!

this song is my life soundtrack, especially after seeing them perform this live. an anthem for the inroverted, performed by our queen tati.

She shoots at them because she's mad they pressure her to deliver her Lyrics(The sand art), before she feels she is ready. and they first stop bugging her when she throws the lyric(Sand Art) at them..... When she was running from the band, the box she threatened to drop was containing the tools for the sand art.

I think this is all about social anxious Tatiana trying to escape and remove social people disturbing here peace, these social entities that are represented by the guys from the band chasing her in the begining of the video and later on she is removing the unwanted guests from her sanctuary. I can relate so much to this lyrics, all about extreme self awereness, fear of saying something stupid, of not being socially presentable, hiding from the world and all the mental chaos it generates.

This song is about being an introvert and a procrastinator. She's actually fine with alone time and doesn't need a bunch of friends being around all the time. I'm the exact same way. I'm fine with dealing with meeting my band's fans and stuff after shows. Until I'm not. Some people get energy from a bunch of people hanging around. Some people are like me and Tati that are fine with people. But we give energy to them and when we run out we need to bail and recharge. Tati is supposed to write the lyrics and be the front person. But a lot of the time she just wants to chill at home doing her own thing. No matter how much she may get irritated and lash out at her band, (Shooting bullets at them) nothing phases them and they still need her art. (Lyrics) to finish the album. The only thing that stops them and lets her be alone is when she finally gives them what they need and she throws her art at them. The video is actually quite literal.

I echo what other folks are saying. It's a song primarily about the lyric writing process. She does claim to be an introvert, and the title of the album Wallflowers is taken from that, but this song in particular is about the struggle she faces with the lyric writing process. She has stated as such in several interviews including her interview with Elizabeth Zharoff on Charismatic Voice. I never asked to be here I hated that from the beginning Turning molehills into mountains I feel the pressure building She never wanted to be the lyric writer. She didn't even originally want to be in the band to begin with! A close friend who is now no longer with the band had begged her to fill in temporarily until they found a new vocalist. They just happened to catch fire while she was filling in. She doesn't believe her lyrics are any good. It embarrasses her when fans repeat them, because she believes they are bad lyrics. She doesn't like her looks. She's embarrassed by her accent. She complains that she looks and acts too "boyish". I mean all in all, she's a typical self concious, young female artist struggling with insecurity and self doubt, who just happens to have found herself at the forefront of a leading metal band and so is expressing all her doubts and insecurities about this in a song. Shooting at the band is a metaphor for what happens when she steps into the booth to record. She shows up to the studio in a panic, still having not written anything. She's pushy, hostile, angry because she's frustrated, yelling at everyone. She breaks down in tears. And then she buckles down, goes into the booth with pencil and paper, and "throws her art" at her band and producer to make them go away so can return to the safety of her apartment.

For this song Tati said she is a really bad procrastinator. So the band is always chasing her down for her art/lyrics. So she says she tries to hold her tongue, with them hounding her for her part of the song. They give her the track and she is expected to write the lyrics. She attacks them at the end with the guns to represent her harsh words when she feels cornered for her art. But as you see in the video they dodge the bullets/hateful words and just smile bc they know it isn't personal.

One great great song by Jinjer without Tatiana's growl is Bad Water. But well, they have a lot of great songs, like I speak astronomy.

If I'm not mistaken, the image she makes with the sand art is the pisces symbol, and I wonder if this song relates to Pisces somehow (beside the fact it's Tati's zodiac sign). Great reaction! Bring more Jinjer!!

The story goes with the newest album Wallflowers, Tatiana was dragging her feet with the lyrics causing frustrations to mount. But my personal opinion is the long road tour, and the fact that their homeland is at war is causing the band to wear down which usually creates members needing time apart to refuel themselves. Start nit picking at eachother over silly stuff.
