When “In Living Color” ended, Perez and other alumnus still talk to each other and give the show credit for launching their career. Lopez doesn’t acknowledge that bit of her career. She’ll speak about her “humble beginnings” as a kid before fame but she won’t talk about being a background character that no one noticed until years later.

To add insult they are creditted as unknown vocals - unknown by whom?! Ashanti performed Ain't It Funny last year at Wembley live and whilst I am happy she's finally getting her credit for not only writing it but being the actual voice on that songs chorus i'm even more pissed at JLo and her producers. Stealing vocals and passing it on as your own should be treated like IP theft or copy right theft.

JLO dating Diddy was a PR move to give her credibility. Her album had a lot of rapper appearances and back then, street credibility was important for music to be relatable. Not realizing how awful that decision was at the time, I think she used the shooting incident in a way to validate the street credibility. Over the years, she framed her career around acting and music, focusing on the Bronx angle as I’m a NY girlie but not too hood. It worked until it didn’t work.

I recently went to New York for the first time and was terrified of the what the people were going to be like. I stayed in Jamaica without researching it beforehand. Let me tell you… THESE PEOPLE WERE SO DAMN NICE!! Everywhere I went, people were so helpful and smiley. They are nothing like what people have portrayed. I was only there for about a week but I avoided the super touristy parts and hung out in random neighborhoods. I was very pleasantly surprised.
