People in this industry will be furious with him and he wont be cast in movies for a long time.....then Joker 2 will come out and make a billion dollars and everyone will forget about this because money is the only thing this industry truly cares about now.
If we don't know the reason for Joaquin's departure, then we're not in a position to judge the morality or ethics of the decision. I will reserve judgement until I know the reasons and they are shown to be worthy of respect or scorn.
Ah NO. He left a few days before filming and left a lot of industry workers out of work. It is unconscionable given he is rich and can afford to leave but not the script writers, make up artists, etc.
What the other guy said, it wouldn’t be bad if he didn’t already have so many people attached and ready to start working. People’s careers are riding on stuff like this, and they’re the ones who will suffer the consequences of such an action, not an A list star.
I doubt their career is in jeopardy, they can get another actor , they cab get other jobs if this project doesn't move forward or stalls, it's part of this business, things don't always go according to plan
@@zalla00 "DEI-laced". So this is the new buzzword for crackpots with limited vocabulary. Id ask you to elaborate but what you've already written so far has me physically cringing. Next time just say you can't think for yourself and move on.
It’s called the Illuminati, they’re forcing him to do the film under the guise that he’s directing it. The Illuminati directs our favorite Hollywood films and tv shows. Wake up people, our minds have been molded since the dawn of the screen.
@@Alex-p5e5k bad reviews? The director of Venice has already screened the film and has said he would be surprised if Joaquin didn't get an Oscar nomination.
@@franciscotoscano9924 Heath and Jake were forced to perform those roles? As in manipulated or blackmailed? I've never heard that, but I would believe it.
And yet, if he did the film, there would’ve been outrage about a non-gay actor taking a gay role off a gay actor. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t
He wrote the movie and wanted to star in it. It was his idea and he backs out days before. That’s like a contractor tearing apart your kitchen, charging you for labor and ordering a bunch of material only to say he can’t be the one to do it days before he was supposed to. Gave you a timeline and everything
@@StonedCabbageI know this is Tarrable of him to do maybe they can get a real gay person for the role though like Neal Patrick Harris or Nathan Lane I actually like both of those actors better so I might be more out to watch it
It really depends on the movie and how we are depicted in it. If it's pro LGBT done right we don't care if he's straight. If it's blaming everything bad happening to Freddy Mercury due to being gay I'll pass.
I actually liked Bros but I think they went to far with some of the stuff in it as a bisexual person I found some of the stuff unrealistic and unrelatable and I'm there core focus group so I can't imagine what straight people were saying 😳🤯🙄
The solution is pretty simple isn’t it? I am assuming contracts were signed and if so he broke that contract and is now financially liable so just sue him instead of flooding the internet with the story.
They do this all the time. Sean penn and James Franco in Milk. No one cares. Sean penn was highly praised for that movie. The outrage will only be because phoenix left a gay focused movie lol.
@@Madfox88 They do it all the time you say but gave one example of a fil that came out in 2008. 16 years ago. If you are going to say something then back it up.
@@brucef310 it’s already rare to have a mainstream lgbtq movie. I guarantee you if this movie went thru with phoenix, no one would say anything. Have you heard anything about phoenix playing a gay dude.. until this moment where he decided to quit?
@@brucef310 one recent example I just thought of is that young dude who played Elton John in Rocketman. He was praised for it and he is not gay, cause who cares. It’s acting…
J. P. Apparently pitched the script himself and suggested not to tone down the the sexualized gay stuffs. Then got cold feet 5 days before production, what a real life clown.
@@deebee4575 they don’t cover real problems or science in the news anymore. Have you noticed? Did you know we may have found fossils on mars? Or that Mars has an ocean underneath the surface? That was literally discovered this week, but you wouldn’t know it because our media is focused on CRAP
That's not our problem. Phoenix will surely communicate his reasons at a later point. Perhaps certain changes were pushed and triggered his exit. Even film makers aren't in control of everything.
So unprofessional. You know how many people lost their jobs? And for the people saying recast him, it's not that simple. That would take weeks to months, the other actors work on schedule and might have other projects lined up meaning this is the time thay cleard for the production of this movie. Why do people act like you can just start a project this size at any moment?
I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t sue him into bankruptcy. They did it to Kim Basinger for doing the exact same thing when she dropped out of Boxing Helena.
He also caused an outrage with "I'm still here". There were also people who claimed "Joker " will be a disaster and it ended up making a billion. Phoenix proved multiple times his charisma and acting brilliance can save any project. If that isn't enough to cut him some slack I don't know what more it takes. He's a man, not a machine. Go, Phoenix 🐦🔥
Of course you'll still get Joker. That film has nothing to do with what's happening here. Notice how it isn't mentioned at all and it's an entirely different filmmaker and film that they're talking about?
Just ask Tom Holland to fill in the void. He's been salivating for such an opportunity. I'm sure he's chomping at the bit, wanting to sink his teeth into such a juicy role.
But he was the one that proposed this movie. If I'm not mistaken, he bought the rights. Also you can quit, but 5 days before production is so unprofessional. I'm not thinking about the producers or higher-ups, I'm talking about the crew that will loose 3 to 4 months worth of work.
@@benjamindover4337they can work around it. They can hire a double. They can use prosthetics like they do in a lot of movies. There's an infinite list of ways they could've done this movie. and according to other outlets, he's the one that pitched this movie.
I’m still amazed the first Joker made as much as it did. It wasn’t a great movie. Not a bad movie at all but Billion dollar great? The 2nd one being a musical is a hard no for me.
That’s silly if he is blacklisted. He should do what Bruce Willis did. instead of being sued, just sign on 3 films under the studio and everyone is happy. Bruce Willis did it and one of the films he was forced to make was the sixth sense so it all worked out.
happens. you can always do what you want, if, you're willing to pay the price. when it comes down to it, the movie business is a business, and dropping out this late costs people money. id be upset with him as well. Joaquin isnt some scrub trying to keep his spot or break in, so this will all blow over. he still makes money, as long as you can do that, this will be forgotten.
1:02 woah!!! How’s that not an indentured servant… n the “ “ dont think they should get flax for treating humans like slaves cuz they signed a contract… so inhuman n people treat those same when they talk about them… Kayne wasnt wrong. They monsters in the industry 1:02
So we’re supposed to believe that Joaquin Phoenix - who has been a professional actor since he was a kid and has played a myriad of roles where he literally transforms his body to fit the part (think the weight he lost to play the Joker) - got cold feet about playing a part that he wrote AND brought to the producer??? If the producers wanted to make Phoenix seem impossible to work with, they should’ve done better than this obvious hit piece by the Hollywood Reporter. (Paraphrasing) “Don’t be like Joaquin Phoenix, kids, or else you too could face legal action and blackballing! 🫣” FOH.
@pluntchgunster6156 then why THR hyping up the "outrage" , actors exit projects all the time, he's a-list so he can do it without an issue, this is a failed cancel attempt
5 days before the start of the movie? How are you capable of seeing it as that? They have to go through negotiations, they have to go through the actors guild to make it official. The agency needs to have a piece from the actors paycheck, these types of deals are not done in days. It takes months. You're also ignoring preparation, another actor would need to study the script before signing on. I mean, c'mon it's not that simple. And they can't push the movie like it was nothing, the other actors work with a schedule, they might not be available for the rest of the year. There's so much wrong with that, it's called being unprofessional. The worst part is that he's the one that proposed this movie.
So you're saying if he got cold feet, it's totally fine and they should just 'find somebody else' like it's that simple? 😂 You do realize this isn’t like picking a sub for a soccer game, right? We're talking about a massive film production, not a casual get-together. Replacing a top actor last minute isn’t just a quick fix-it's a nightmare for everyone involved. Not sure you get how this works.
@@ThatPredIsDeadi don’t give af. If he’s uncomfortable he shouldn’t be forced to do it. I don’t care if he woke up day one of filming and changed his mind. No means no. #TheEnd
Something tells me that something was happening behind the scenes that he wasn't comfortable with Corey Feldman Terry Crews Brendan Frasier Macaulay Caulkin
I'm glad he decided to stay true to himself and not bend to the will. The cold feet was him realizing he never wanted to do it in the first place, but he did it to get more roles. We all know you get more work in 2024 Hollywood if you do gay stuff. But he has an Oscar, and he realized that. So he backed out.
@@gregap8282 well then all the more respect for listening to his instinct. Most people in their position would try to defend their work, at least he knows a misstep when he sees one.
