Hello possums! This is another episode in my work vlog series. However, I am now an unemployed frontend developer. I will share a few interviews that I had and the issues encountered after initial interviews. Come with me as I unfold the realistic series of events as an unemployed tech worker.
And as always, stay curious and have a good week ahead!
sending warm hugs,
rain 💗

Also, keep going! I know it sounds overly optimistic but I didn’t hear back from any recruiter from March-beginning of May. I am an asian living in the US so most companies wrap up the fiscal year and get busy planning on the budget for the next fiscal year during these times. UPDATE: last week and this week (May 2024) I got 4 solid scheduled interview with reputable company as fulltime permanent frontend dev. We got this! Rooting for all the unemployed women in tech! ❤

Female non caucasian dev is at the top of any HRs affirmative hiring policy. Apply for Europe or USA based companies and you’ll get an offer within 30 days.

Try backend, a lot of luck from what I have heard plus frontend is slowly being covered by AI as it is

I agree on this one. I applied to both! Heck even fullstack. I fought this thought for a long time. It’s best to have a fall back! Always keep different resumes in your back pocket!

Market is very tough and oversaturated, competitiveness is high. Keep your head up, im in same water, recently graduated from Software Engineering but was doing front end for over a year or so, have couple of projects and now working together with some friends on projects. So far about 100 applications in past 6 months or so and not a single luck. I've had some interviews about 5 to 10 cant remember but none ended in full time role. Had an interview thanks to friends referal for Junior Software Engineer i knew most of stuff they asked me but seems like some other candidate was a bit better than me. Last rejection was because my salary expactation was a bit high for their budget and i applied for some client operations role in one company here and my salary expectation was pretty minimum wage lol. Btw for how long do you study Nodejs and other tech daily? How many hours do you spend?
@hannnnirin
@hannnnirin 4 месяца назад
I completely agree with you. The job market this year is the worst it's been. There have been too many layoffs in big tech companies, making the competition even higher. Regarding your question, I dedicate a solid two hours on weekdays to studying or reading tech material. As for Node.js, I've been studying it for almost a month. I made sure to work on a side project so that I could showcase it on my portfolio site.

@@hannnnirin What do you think how many projects should one have to land an opportunity? I have couple of solo projects and couple i made with my team from freelance.
@hannnnirin
@hannnnirin 4 месяца назад
I don't think there's an exact number of projects required. Most HR will inquire whether those projects were developed for clients and often ask about the level of responsibility you had for each project. Also, it's relatively rare for them to inquire about side projects, but having them can be a significant advantage while self studying. It demonstrates your discipline and commitment to staying current in our field.

Being firm on salary is a huge mistake. All that matters for a jr is to get experience, to get a foot in the door. Work for only 6-12 months and you can look for jobs with higher salary

@@JegErN0rsk Problem is its not even easy to find something for lower cash they still want you to know x things more.

Job market for this year sucks jd esp here in NZ. Just got lucky recently, had a sponsor for a work visa for a long period before the sudden changes of the immigration policy. 😅
