Overrun in cEDH? YES! Well he dose make his creatures really big. And he is also good at drawing them out. So this could work. Jodah really has a strange thing going for competitive commander.

The ability is not quite cascade as the ability only triggers on legendary spells and can only get legendary spells. It really only matters for cards like Averna, the Chaos Bloom, which ironically will trigger Jodah, but can’t put a land onto the battlefield.

The comment at 3:30 is spot on. It is precisely why I scrapped my Garth deck. I worked really hard to get the dual lands and everything else in there to make them easier to cast as soon as possible but people always answered Garth as soon as I cast him so my games are always boring and I felt like I wasn’t even getting to play. So I switched to a commander I can play faster that didn’t draw so much attention. This commander will fall exactly in the same way and response that Garth did if not worse just like you said

Jodah is a lot of fun to play, but I'm wonderong if it can be a viable cEDH card with the proper build. On top of counterspells and stax, I find having several key Legendary minion Ward, Hexproof, and Resurrect synergy cards helps deter players from targeting you, at least in casual EDH, since certain choices will allow you to protect your early Stax drops and other board build ups. Cards like Glissa Great Glass Spinner, K-9, and a few others makes targeted removal far more expensive to pay through Ward on top of the usual cost more autoincludes. Then you save your counterspells for when your plan would be blocked completely. Ramp quickly like normal, but each card you put onto the field is designed to make it harder to deal with your board rather than kill in a few turns so that you don't lose to Farewell or Cyclonic Rift.

Ah, thank you! There are a few things you pointed out that i hadnt considered, i have made some changes to reflect this. Jodah will be the commander of a deck ive been playing with and even tho it runs better with esika, i want jodah at the helm, it makes sense to use him in a similar fashion as jetmir so i will. (Jetmir being a "craterhoof" of sorts) Deafening silence is nice but thalia is important, as is propaganda and ghostly prison. Im adding march of swirling mist as a response to akromas will and dovins veto is a good add as well. My main concern is that thalia will make the free spells cost 2 however i will plan for that now.

Kind of late to the party here but, Jodah also works like Cascade worked before the Kaldheim update, so he can cheat out Tibalt Cosmic Impostor by flipping Valki. I also like his synergy with grabbing stax planeswalkers like the War of the Spark versions of Teferi/Karn/Narset/Ashiok. He reminds me a lot of like a weird hybrid of Winota and First Sliver/Sisay. He definitely has a lot more build potential for more casual games, but I think he might be fun to see in CEDH too. I hadn't considered Yasharn, Varragoth, or Sygg and now I'm even more excited to build this guy than I already was!

This reminds me of ran a five color Tazri party deck I used to run. There are a lot of farm abilities on legendary creatures. I eventually took it apart after I found myself just always trying to get to Winota to win the game

Out of all the 5c commanders, i think Jenson has the most raw potential. However, Jodah I think may have another home with Cecily + Othelm. We can do Human tribal midrange, and along with Rick, we have the thiccness to push through our damage. As to Jodah helming the list however, we need to take a very close look at food chain. One of the premier enablers for food chain is squee, a legendary creature.

But nothing happens if you have infinite mana from food chain with this commander. Sure you can cast your entire hand of creatures but then it stops.

Not gonna lie when I first saw Jodah my first thought was to abuse Acererak's self bounce on ETB to cheat out a win. Only problem with that plan is that I've yet to look if there's an actual potential wincon that is just 2MV or less legendary permanents (which due to Acererak includes any infinite black mana combo).

If you have something like Aluren it is great. But this commander cant just find that and sure we could play that and tutors. But both cards are bad on their own. So no I dont like it. Like najeela derevi is kinda bad combo in this deck to. But both cards are good without the other so we can just have them in there anyways.

Its probably unplayable but i would love to see a Jodah list that runs a Jegantha companion and runs Najeela as the only legendary in the deck. Get Jodah out, buy and cast Jegantha, find Najeela and then you have the pieces for infinite combats, prob too slow but i think its cute

I looked at your decklist and I do not understand the manabase: why use the Odyssey cycle of filter lands? Aren't they worse than the Shadowmoor filter lands and lock you in specific set of colors? Cool deck tech video by the way. I enjoyed watching it.

I built mine as a five colour tibalt storm list some light stax and a Jegantha companion. At least on Historic Brawl. Working on a high power edh version. HB has gone well though.

On another note. Karn's Sylux is legandary and can be tutored with Sissay at end steps. Which is a Yasharn on an artifact and a blastzone on a stick. Not too bad

I think it's funny I just now watched this. I've been looking for a new commander for my very casual Mutate tribal deck, and when I saw Jodah I went "That would be a good way to nerf Sisay." But yeah, Jodah does some cool things. Sisay is fun, but man is it less fun when you're smashing the same cards onto the field every game. Which ended up just being a Kiki Combo every game.

Prime-Speaker Zegana seems like a good fit. Also, this might be the only deck that could run Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage and Venser, Shaper Savant as value pieces. Riptide Laboratory? ;)

He would be a to good if he had flying. He is alredy kinda busted. I have played him a bunch in MTGArena and he is crazy there. They have to balance cards for other formats too. Strange there are other formats then cEDH.

Calling winota a non synergy is kinda wrong yeah? As jodah immediately makes her a 2for1 bringing a friend to enable her, then she enables the overrun by adding attacking legends who now dont need haste who also pump jodahs coat of arms effect, potentially making a weak attack into just outright lethal. Indestructible is a plus too

You get the trigger if you cast it from hand but then you cast something from the library with the trigger.

Yes. Mox amber dosent help us cast the commander. And we dont really need it once we have the commander in play. We rather hit 1 cmc and 2 cmc creatures. So I dont think it is a card for this deck. Not bad but I dont see the need.

Check out Ertai Resurrected from the Dominaria spoilers. Counters the thassa ability and causes them to draw a card decking them out. Legendary creature with flash.

It's 12 mana total but you can win just by casting jhoda, followed by samut- the creature version, and cascading into a vanifar. Then sac jhoda with vanifar to find Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, then use samut to untap vanifar, sac samut and find Triskelion - proceed to win. Just play the rest of the deck like bloodpod, minus the legendary stax pieces, or go turbo with acceleration and tutors, my 2 cents
