I'm really liking this deck and I think it can compete in alot of pods but looking over the list I'm stuck on phyrexian devourer, is it in there just as an instant speed counter enabler or am I missing a combo?
I think theree is something to be said about this commander and going infinite with Emiel and Dockside. The ability to pod into some shenanigans is super easy and good colors to tutor etc
@cEDH TV agreed but it is nice that your Win con is in the command zone with this one. Emiel specifically adding one counter each time. then ping opps for 1 each time it triggers. IF you can tutor it quick enough
solid review, seems like a decent commander and luckily naya has a lot of creature tutors that can support this strategy. But like with most naya commanders I imagine lack of card advantage from the cz can be tough. s&h can kind of pressure life totals but it cant get past kraum. not a completely "do-nothing" commander (except for the combo) but also nothing amazing. I imagine it'll see a bit of play and probably get a top16 here or there since the deck can play the most backbreaking stax effects without worrying about turning off your wincon
Does this mean heliod as mono white commander is dead? This offers essentially the same strategy but access to a far better selection of interaction cards and overall better card quality.
Its also an Elf, you can win in many ways with it. Can also just be in your 99 if you play stuff like Minsc or Rocco, Naya got A LOT of hot stuff in the latest bunch of sets.
Isn't that the point of playing? Drop a commander that can win with 1 or so other cards, while the rest are what help you progress to victory. But my strategy may be as helpful as this comment I'm responding to.
@@josephcraig9655 Najeela can combo, or najeela can run people over with warriors. Sisay can combo, or she can find you hatebears/interaction. Thrasios is an infinite outlet, but he also grinds extremely well. Niv Mizzet can kill people with Curiosity, but also eats hatebears for breakfast.
@MasterDecoy1W ah, so they need help to find combos and such as wellm I'm glad you see why I made my comment. By themselves, they're all not so good, but with a little help....VICTORY. I mean, Rocco can do both combo or stax as well, so where is this commander any different. I'm genuinely curious as to where any of these commanders differ except in minoot changes.
@@josephcraig9655 I don't think you get it. By themselves, the cards I listed ARE good. Thrasios, Najeela, Niv, Yuriko, Malcolm, Tasigur, Kess, Urza etc. etc. etc. all do something well by themselves, in addition to having winning combos. If you never draw your combo pieces in a Najeela deck, you still have reasonable clock to kill. Shalar doesn't have that. Sisay, Niv, and Thrasios provide card advantage and/or deal with creatures that are hindering your gameplan. Shalar doesn't do that. Fat powerhouses like Kraum and Tasigur create strong pressure because they are easy to cast early. Shalar doesn't do that. By every metric, it's weak.
Weak is not the metric I'm seeing, but again all before mentioned commanders need just as much help. Moot points are still moot, please bring a strong argument as to why I would play Heliod over this so maybe you can get somewhere.
