@@fallios I wouldn’t say it looked dry but however he did not season it correctly a perfectly seasoned risotto is very important so in that case yes he has failed to create this dish
Sir Joel ya I mean q obv. One is one of the most Michelin starred chefs in the world, and as much as I respect and like joe, he is a restaurateur, not a proper chef
@@uncleben8549 you do know joe is just a restaurant owner, hes a businessman not really a chef. but someone like gordon would obliterate you in a cooking competition
@@saitamakieron5225 why does everyone put so much weight on Michelin stars? Why the FUCK do I care what a fucking TIRE COMPANY has to say about food? I know plenty of no Michelin stars that have amazing food. Michelin stars are just code for corporate sellout I have no doubt some Michelin restaurants put out great food. I do know that they ignore large swathes of the US, mainly focusing on NY Chicago and CA, all very expensive places to live attracting big spenders and tourism.
@@nope9885 idk about that. I just know he owned a bunch of restaurants with Mario Batali and after Batali's sexual harassment charges came to light Bastianich had to buy him out. And now the New York Attorney General is looking into both of them. Not sure if Joe Bastianich is actually involved or not they could be looking into simply because they were business partners but either way Batali is in more trouble then what he already was.
For all the non-Italian fellas down here: in an episode from season 8 of MC Italy, Joe argued with another judge about the correct way to plate a risotto; the other chef was reminding the contestants to plate it in a flat plate, but Joe went "wait, who said that? In New York we serve it in a soup plate!" I am actually confused to see him plate it correctly and even explaining why it's done this way (to stop the cooking process, so the rice doesn't get overcooked from its own heat)!
@@disdonc6012 sure, but the grains underneath will still be more cooked than the ones on top if you plate it in a soup plate. If the risotto is cooked perfectly when you plate it, you want to make sure all of it stays the same until the client gets to eat it, which is why the flat plate is generally chosen, so the heat is distributed evenly. I'm neither a chef nor a physicist, though, so maybe it's not that much of a problem to choose either way of plating it, but still, the discussion between the judges in MC Italy 8 was about this! 😅
The reason lies in the so-called "strict etiquette". The dish must show the competence of the Chef: a risotto in a workmanlike manner has enough compactness not to spread around the plate. In the bottom, in fact, should be served only soups or pasta in broth, both mainly liquid.
risotto isnt "hard" if your standards are low, but it can be elevated if you're doing everything correct step by step, something even gordon doesnt do at times because he isnt used to cook italian dishes the authentic way (e.g. carbonara). knowledge is what matters, and joe made a decent risotto.
@@memexpert China pretty much just influence Europe in early times through Marco Polo, so pretty much its just their own variation like pastas from noodles .
He was right it isn't you need to toast the rice and you need to go through a specofic order of process to make the rice come out creamy so stop being american and learn making it yourself.
@@vipin395 it is very much not lmao stop being american and learn how to cook its not about the amount of engridients (also that) but about how you use the ingredients
@@superidol4670 non- american here and idk where the complexity in this dish is at all? it’s just two primary ingredients u add as u stir the rice. making curry dishes is much harder especially with the amount of ingredients, time and amount of technique
Joe is actually a good hearted person. That's just a personality that was assigned to him for the reality show because production wants more drama. It's called acting 🎬.
Gordon and the girl smiling at each other when Joe's says " it may seem easy but it's not. It's all about technique" because they know risotto is actually pretty easy to make hahaha
@@matteomanglaviti6074 what else do you do in Italy apart from softening onions and adding rice, then stock bit by bit until cooked? Yes it’s that easy.
@@guts2484 You don't even need to add stock bit by bit, cook it like regular rice and stir for a bit when it's almost done and, add more stock to make if needed, shits super easy.
Why do you Americans think we Italians use pepper in every dish? This isn’t absolutely true, and however that Risotto is really similar to what we do here in Italy
I love how damn good they are with kids. You wouldn't catch Joe dead trying to cook and show an adult how to do that. Or answer that salt question. Adult : "Do we add salt as we cook?" Joe : "No, you add your whole dish to the trash can for wasting my time."
Joe himself has like 3 kids I believe. That’s why they did masterchef jr-every judge except Christina (who is naturally nice enough) has kids of their own so they know how to deal with kids
The kid that described what ‘wilting’ is, has better culinary vocabulary than majority of the mid to late 20 year olds I know.... some of them can’t even cook rice without draining it or know the difference between a ladle and a spatula
@@mancy-san4577 remember to put he saffron in hot water before, better a couple of hours before or it does not dissolve properly. Also saffron goes with beef stock.
@@nobodi12 yes absolutely the 2h part is not necessary in my opinion half an hour is okay and the water should be lightly hot, if it is too hot you will lose some aromatics and flavour
@@pakperds god of cooking? Ramsey? Lmao no he’s nots you only think that because he is famous and wealthy. Have you seen Gordon try to make Italian carbonara, pad Thai, or Mexican food? He literally failed making them. Gordon’s specialty is only french cuisine. Not fucking Italian cuisine. Keep in mind, there is chef alian who holds the most Michelin stars and is ranked as world’s number 1 chef. There is also Marco Pierre white aka Gordon’s mentor.
Italians must have laughed of gordon making carbonara... joe can be an ass but thats a perfect risotto if you dont know about italian food you should stay quiet...

? So? And Risotto is a high level dish, ask any major chef like Marco it's no joke. Anyhow: the man's a Success. I cannot understand why anyone would be so withdrawn inside to hate on a Successful man just teaching a few kids how to cook Great food.

@@netweed09Risotto is an easy dish to pickup, although what you mean is probably mastering it. Joe knows what good food tastes like, but he has no background of hard-working or hard-earned labor unlike the other judges.
Okay, so Joe DOES have some iota of cooking. Now that we've seem him make a rudimentary risotto, does anyone know any videos of him doing something more worthy of his single Michelin star?
