Ole Joe often refers to himself as a bit of a nerd, but when he picks up his guitar...there is nobody cooler in the entire world! Also, this performance of John Henry is a MONSTER!
Musicians are nerds because music is a science - timing of sound & vibration & a melody cutting through the black hole of silence. There's an infinite variation. I believe the science behind the sound barrier is part of the key to time travel.
I love Michael Rhodes! This comment is all about him….. Love when he plucks a single deep bass string…00:48, 00:54, 01:01. Really animated at 02:59 and beyond, especially when he whacks the neck of his bass at 03:05! His down-up strums at 05:54 set a great dramatic tone. And he’s really into it at 06:29, and 07:31 to the end. “John Henry” wouldn’t be the same without this great bassist!
I love “John Henry”. Even when Joe is doing a song he’s done countless times before, each performance is a bit different. Immense skill, creativity, and talent there…in improvisation and phrasing! Love his solo. His vocal phrasing here is a little different from his other renditions of John Henry, too, and that keeps it new and fresh! Love his band!
The greatest rock song in recent years played by the greatest rock guitarist of the modern era. Very sadly I can no longer afford his live concert ticket prices 😢
The drummer here is ANTON FIG born in Cape Town South Africa, He stood in for Peter Criss on albums Dynasty and Unmasked... One of the most underrated drummers in the world
I came across John Bonamassa a few years ago and as for me he knocks Clapton, Hendrix and Slash right off my list he even has a great voice Long may you play Bonamassa 😘
Maby Joe is a bit introvert but his soul playes in every Song. B.B. King told him I suppose to go his own way and he does. ThisSong was the favorite Song of my late Husband Chris.
Attended the show in Reading PA on Dec 2, 2021. Rocked the venue so hard the 150 year old plaster melted right off the balcony ceiling! Shit...I bet this show was melting mountain tops in Afghanistan. Now what's up with the bottle of cognac memorialized on the corner of the drum riser center stage?
I’m consistently surprised his view counts are not higher. Not sure how a talent like this can fly under the radar but apparently not many people know about him. I don’t know what other reasons there could be.
i like his new lineup. this old bass player always reminds me of some guy in a euro porn flick. check out the natchez trace if you are interested in slavery and the civil war. i dont know nothing bout john henry, but the riverboats used to work the old muddy river.
