Ali said “speak for yourself”. So quiet its easy to miss. Must have been so hard for Ali to have had to be the quiet one in the room for so much of his life
Larry Holmes beat an old Ali ..but didn't want to make him suffer and called on the ref many times to stop the fight out of respect...Ali and Holmes had massive respect for each other. Tyson bear an old Holmes .
@@Razah. holmes had a title fight in his 40s and didn't retire until he was in his 50s, mike would've whooped him in his prime, let's not give him that excuse, especially considering the fact that he beat up an old ali with Parkinsons.
@@eurirotk holmes retired in 1985 for year and half then came out of retirement for 1 fight then retired again in 86 and in 1988 came out of retirement to fight mike Tyson. That’s equivalent to 4 years inactivity at his age is brutal for the human body, bare in mind holmes also had 12+ years of an abused body vs a fresh prime mike Tyson, Do you even know boxing bro?
He beat the brakes of his nephew. Frazier knows what’s up lol. Although what Larry’s saying has merit. Maybe Ken Norton, Frazier would have struggled but Ali and Holmes are both better versions of Lennox Lewis… And we all saw what Lennox did to Mike
@@XThirdEyeX Lennox yes, Holyfield no. Mike was 30 years old and definitely in his prime. Just because he lost a fight, it doesn't mean he wasn't in his prime, it just means Holyfield was better on the night. Holyfield isn't a bum, he's a HOFer for a reason. I'm sure Mike could beat Holyfield on his night, but on record Holyfield is the one who won both those fights.
@@jonathanisom1600 even in their prime Holmes gets no where near Tyson. His style was all wrong for Holmes. Holmes always struggled with shorter fighters that moved around a lot. Holmes wouldn't have beaten Ali if Ali was in his prime also. That's just the facts although a good fighter holmes fought many fighters who were well bellow his level that's just the era he was in like fury now. When he got tested he was found out and just being salty makes him looks worse. Both Ali and Frazier where better fighters than Holmes and stood a better chance in their prime of beating Tyson but even they are being humble. I have no respect for Holmes anymore.
@@youngboss9060 joe started slowly so tyson only victory would be 1-3 round knockout. But I think joes impeccable chin and defence would take it later rounds and once their there joe would steam ahead.
Not really..got found out in the olympic trials...after that steered carefully in pro career and lost to the first fighter who stood up to him. Mike did great things but Larry's right.
He right except Kenn Norton. This is because these fighters can take a punch and had great stamina. Tyson can not take a good shot and he has the notability to run out of gas if he doesn't knock you out with the first 5 rounds!
@@ericsmith3685 Mike Tyson had an iron chin, he also had good conditioning in his prime, if he gassed out against Ruddock he would have lost that fight.
@@ericsmith3685 Do you think someone who cannot take a shot would have dominated his era like pretty much nobody else in the history of Boxing? It's absurd how brutally Mike knocked out every single opponent within the first rounds. Hate him or think he is overrated but whatever you do don't talk like he wasn't an amazing fighter because that just makes you sound like a clown. You are probably talking about old Mike but rating a boxer on his aged form is worthless.
I like Tyson but those guys was scared to fight him! I'm talking about Ali, Holmes and Frazier. These guys has stamina and took good shots and still knocked their opponents out! They had a must toughercand more talented era of fighters back then! Luke today's heavyweights, they couldn't have stood a chance!
Yeah, but he left for Philadelphia at 15 and trained exclusively there throughout his career. Raised his family there and trained dozens of young fighters there in his gym.
@@idklol4197 no chance Ali was like a dancer every move was perfect but tyson is like a nuke don't matter how much u dance he will kill everything in ten miles
None of these legends would have been capable of taking Mike Tyson blows. How many of them could finish of guys in the first round on a steady basis in their prime?
Buster Douglas squirshed him. Or was he suddenly “out of his prime” for that one ? If so that’s a short MF’n prime 1986-88 ?? Maybe he was out of his prime but then back into it for Peter McNeeley ??
@@kp-ig9ex people always holler cus and Mike had issues... Every fighter had life going on. It's all relative to your situation. Managers are one thing but at the end of the day when you're in the ring it's all about you as an individual and how well you prepaid
The most Legendary moment in commentary boxing with some of the greatest legends at the table 🙌 Larry was lucky muhammad couldn't speak n tyson wasn't there.
@Joske Vermeulen Exactly... and what choice did he have? If he had not taken ali seriously then he would've also been severely criticized. Basically Holmes was simply doing his job. Ali was the loudmouth punching bag that couldn't let go of the past and ended up taking a severe, and much-deserved beating.
Not only did Tyson tell Ali he’d get him and actually did. That was Cus’ boy and Boxing prodigy. It’s actually deep between them because of how cool Ali was with Cus.
@@Only1Kizz That wasn’t the premise of that comment. He was a humble guy and prolly would’ve but telling Holmes to speak for yourself was a knock on Holmes. Not himself.
Yes he did. Because Ali and Joe are real men. Larry got his ass whooped by Mike and he knew then that he could have never survived in the ring with Mike Tyson at any point in his career. The ONLY heavyweight in my lifetime who could have probably stayed with Tyson in his prime would have been Ali. Ali was a true boxer and he had 10 times more heart than any modern heavyweight. So he might have been able to take Iron Mike. Frazier, Holmes, Foreman, none of them would have beaten Mike in his prime
@@archieadams4841 at any point in his career is a stretch, Holmes was a great fighter in his prime. Probably would’ve been a great fight if they were both in their respective prime.
@@naenae9747 foreman came back mainly to destroy Tyson he did all he could to call him out he called him out on interviews tv shows and Tyson said that he doesn’t want to fight this animal lol and ducked him
That's why I have always had an immense amount off respect for Frazier, a great man, a great boxer and truly one off the most humble boxers to ever do it
The good old boys approach? Yeah, this is very very prevalent in America and just pretending that you are right is a cultural approach and people getting behind you and making you be right even though it is not grounded and Truth usually for profits is what we call the American way
@@angelorivera5884 what's your point you're trying to make? It's not tysons fault. That Larry wanted the damn fight. And was older. Not tysons fault when he was born 😂💯
holmes lost to tyson the same way he beat ali. but when he won it was cus he’s better, when he lost it’s because he’s old. when in reality he’s just shit and the best win of his career was literally against a disabled old man.
@@riceflatpicking4954 🤣 🤣 🤣 ol flabby Larry was hating like hell. Mean while Mike knocked THEE FUCK outta Joe's son n Joe is still giving Mike the respect he deserves 👏
@@jasonmoody4219 Mike Tyson is the only man to ko Larry Holmes, 4 years latee at 42 holyfield had a tough fight with Larry and undefeated Ray Mercer actually lost to old Larry Holmes, Give Tyson some credit Larry was past his prime but still potent.
@@NoName-vb4pc it's not just about his age. It's about the timing of when the fight happened. Larry hadn't fought in a year and a half and was coming off of the losses to Michael Spinks when he got in the ring with Tyson. With Holyfield he had been active for over a year and had won six straight fights. I'm not necessarily saying it would've made a difference either way but it is something to think about.
I'm old enough to remember Ali and Tyson were both guests on _The Arsenio Hall Show,_ along with Sugar Ray Leonard. Ali called Tyson a greater boxer than himself, but Tyson humbly contradicted Ali; Tyson said (if memory serves), "Every knee must bent; every head must bow. He [Ali] is the greatest of all time."
"This guy is a marksman." Greak quote and good on you, Joe. Holmes is bitter AF *Joe remembers when Mike absolutely destroyed Marvis and that moment of destruction never left his memory 💀
