The “ stocking “ mask is in reference to the Martin margielas masks. They were put on models to pay importance to the models, in the 90s fashion was all about glamour and famous models and Martin was completely against that and the whole egocentric Manor of fashion. Martin is a huge inspiration to Kanye and demna
@@dustins_gram it’s funny how much he rags on traditional media but has the same disdain for normal people the way traditional media has. his not wanting to read comments at all or even read them on the podcast is a tell tale sign. He used to read comments in the early podcasts. Also I remember him doing a clubhouse thing with Tim Dillon. When Tim was going to bring up someone to talk, joe said something like “wait don’t bring one of THEM up here” I could almost taste the level of contempt he had when he said it.
Lol so true. Dude is his biggest fan face to face but talks shit all the time before that ahah. Now admits he’s a genius like keep a straight story. I like that he atleast acknowledges he thinks at a different pace and on a different level than most
"I remember the black community was saying" yeah we discussed it at our annual meeting at the waffle house in Atlanta, I hate this type of opinion lmao. Black people aren't a monolith
Damn, I didn’t even know about the bear hunting jacket inspiration- makes it a transformational symbol since the bear was such a big part of his early album covers and identity. Like he’s “hunting” or “killing” that young Kanye. I know, that’s reaching but it would be cool if it was deliberate.
Those masks aren't actually his idea. Those go back to the 90', and were an idea by Martin Margiela. Back then fashion was really personality driven, something he didn't like. So he answered to it, with anonymizing himself and his models. Kanye and Demna, the designer he is working with, consider Margiela as a huge influence.
His first few albums were decent. He defintely pioneered that bluesly sampled + pitched vocals production basically every rap song copied off of for a decade.
As someone who's brain is constantly running, always trying to come up w/ new things and stay doing stuff I heavily relate to when Joe was explaining how Kanye's brain works.
That sounds terrible, there’s enough Sowell material with people that can actually extract his thoughts and ideas in a more academic way than “So Thomas, I know the black community isn’t largely into elk hunting but, if you were to give them a little DMT do you think that would help them get off government assistance?”
@@thedripdrop9826 He got a couple thousand people to watch him walk around a stadium listening to an unfinished album but sure go on about his irrelevance
Look. Love em of hate em. 2000s Kanye was at the PEAK of hip hop. The man single handedly changed the rap game with his beats alone. 808 and heartbeat is a legendary album. Can't deny the man his genius.
@@GovernorRiffRaff come on man. he made his mark in the game. Love it or hate it but he is the real shit. I find myself jamming to his shit still no matter the time or place.
I agree that if Joe were to hook up an interview with both Elon and Kanye, that would be insane. I don’t know how it would work though with three big personalities at the same table.
@@hiddenknowledge2012 Kanye comparing whatever project he's doing to taking mankind to Mars and going off on tangents that don't really relate to anything
@@astikscooters tbh Akira is connected to everything Kanye does. If you look at his red color based outfit at the first listening party, thats literally akira vibes. And the stronger MV too.
@ETH Ball you mean, has not the same amount of money and crew backing him up and even amount of possibilities being given in his life... Otherwise everyone would be a "genius".. Smh 🙄
10 mins I am dying laughing. This is fucking phenomenal , hilarious podcasting. Thank you for bringing Ms Pat and Jordan in. Thank you Joe Rogan and Jamie.
Kim showing up with the kids to support their father even though they’ve split up is pretty damn cool to me. Dads get screwed in divorce so often that it’s nice to see an ex-wife do what’s best for the kids. That’s how you show the kids you’re still a family.
Why is he a “genius”? Cause he says so? Cause he makes music that people buy? Gtfo of here with that tired ass line that Kanye himself started proclaiming.
@@MrPooPooJohn Let’s see. Rolling Stone Magazine recently updated their list off the Top 500 Albums of all time (all genres). Kanye West was the only artist that had 6 albums where the highest ranked album was at #17. Musical legends that have collaborated with him, for example Sir Paul McCartney and Elton John has called him a genius and McCartney specified that he also got heavily inspired by his work ethic. In a timespan of a 17 year career he has been awarded 22 Grammys, few artists have more. Oh, and let’s not forget how everyone doubted his fashion line back in 2015 - 6 years later, according to Forbes, due to successful sales in both clothing and music, he is worth 1.8 billion dollars. If all these things come easy, show me you do it.
@@watercave4905 The success of his fashion line is just a sad reflection of our materialistic society. Worth 1.8 billion , just shows he's good a dodging taxes. The fact that his albums were more successful in Rolling Stones chart of ALL TIME than The Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Beastie Boys, The Smiths, just roves the invalidity of that chart. Can he play an instrument?
the listening party is the release..its performance art....he conveyed how society can not just be satisfied with not just one album but a 2nd in weeks and ppl for some reason want just the ability of having it when they already experienced it...the art was the event
@@watercave4905 I bet you can tell he's kinda insane when he starts talking about politics.. On the music side, you seem lost, not understanding that Tours are designed and run by crews not the artists..
He is also describing a "classic" bipolar mania condition .... it sounds like K W was treated unsuccessfully until he was able to find someone to prescribe the correct regimen.....
@@Validboy On this one you are wrong. Yes, generally it is not the artists that are creatively in control. But now we are talking about Kanye West and the set design for his 2013 tour was all designed by him. Same with the 2007, 2011 tour and his 2016 tour. I don't think you are aware that he has an honorary doctorate for Fine Arts in the University of Chicago.
Wouldn’t say that. I know and I’m pretty sure you do to,know a lot of people if they were given 20million dollars right now. They would never work again. To be able to constantly innovate or think of new concepts is truly a skill that everyone does not have resources or not.
@@knightrider693 if his music is shit then why are Paul McCartney , Elton John, Prince, Lou Reed, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen all on the list of people that have praised and are fans of him

@@trentstings Ye’s last couple albums were not good but then again the same goes for drake. I still got more hope for Drake cause he’s been working on it for so long but we’ll see. I definitely think tho that Kanye wants to fuck with Drakes release.
2:40 it's so weird hearing a line like "and then the black community was like"... as if it's a collective hive mind... imagine Joe saying "the white community" or "the bald community" rofl
That's a cool concept but the streets unfortunately gets the credit of creator. No disrespect YSL, Hilfiger, etc. We know what keeps pushing the concepts of modern fashion.😉✊🏿✌🏿
I totally agree. I honestly don't understand why people put Kanye and Elon on such pedestals. Although I guess if watch a little of what's on tik tok it kinda makes sense. 🤔
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who thinks this dude is overrated, I came to read the comments to see how many would be praising him, he was ok pre- kardashian tho
Thing is he is a genius. After he lost his mother he became a broken man. Just because he's goes crazy dealing with the effects of losing his mother doesnt mean he aint a genius. I expect more than half of all people to have breakdowns after losing their mother.
Happened in Judge Dredd comic books, where crime was so rampant and there wasn't enough Judges to go around, so civilians were allowed to wear spiky protective armor. Thing is that was supposed to be satire.
