I'm not mad at Joe, but it seems like Louie is talking about a level of self-absorption to someone who's pretty self-absorbed - albeit in his pursuit of optimal performance/ health by all means necessary and available
Accurate. Louie is trying to be polite because he sees that Joe is not getting it. He wants to end the show on good terms with Joe, probably because Joe could have a negative effect on his career just by saying nothing. There's a point where Louie laughs and it's a moment in conversations I tend to dread. You see that the nature of the discussion can't allow you to disclose what's necessary for the interlocutor to receive any form of enlightenment and the interlocutor's position is such that they have a massive blindspot that demands they never look there. The closest analogy is being out on a date with a person you like and you're pretty sure they're interested in you, but if you reveal it too early, they have to stop showing you they like you because too much will happen too quickly. So you believe that they don't like you and stop signalling interest which makes them think you're a lost cause so they give up or reclassify you as a friend and now you're stuck even though you both really liked each other to begin with. I like the idea of Joe looking back on this video and seeing what he didn't see here, but he's very much like a shark. I don't think he goes back over old things to watch his own progression.
@@Frank_Reynolds__.He is tho. No conversation is pointless because the point is what ever you want it to be. It's like saying waking up every day is pointless because one day the sun will run out of Hydrogen and consume the earth. Any moment in time is as important or non important as you choose to see them.
Louis is trying real hard to tell Joe in the most polite way that nobody gives a shit about his cold plunges and saunas. Most people can’t relate to that. But Joe is so out of touch that it goes over his head over and over.
He kept thinking Louis was saying cold plunges don’t improve your state of mind. I see how a rich famous man would find his trips to gyms challenging, but Joe seems to think he’s going above and beyond the rest of mankind’s efforts by “taking care of his physical body”. People simply don’t have the time or money to. If you live in the ghetto in Detroit your “cold plunge” is stepping out your front door.
It is possible to live as Joe prescribed, to prioritize health. But life will just be health and work. No time to slow down or rest, or be intentionally wasteful.
Louis is out of touch, if he thinks open borders for the USA is a good idea. Many people died for the United States to be as comfortable as we are. Such a shame. He is just not thinking.
Except he's entirely wrong. Russians and Skandinavians have a very long history of doing both cold plunges and saunas. This isn't anything fancy its how people USED to live. To Louie CK "you're not standing on the Earth anymore.", if you're not a dumb american working a slave job and having 40% of your income taxed and not even having enough money to support a normal household let alone some luxuries that would support your health.
No doubt and if you’re feeling especially tough get a good fan blowing so when you get out and just let the fan dry you off. In your air conditioned house you’ll definitely have triggered that shiver response and if your not homeless it’s an option
You don't have Healthcare? You must live in the USA. Someone once told me that the US is the "Greatest country in the world;" But then they stepped into the doctors office in the next moment to pick up their anti-depression meds...💊
The morbidly obese guy? Oh yeah im sure we can learn a lot from his wisdom lol Dont get me wrong he is hilarious but if you wanna follow his life advice, go ahead.
@Ryan88881 what? Can you elaborate on that? If you're saying Joe was wrong about saunas, then yes you're right. I don't see a correlation between saunas and being healthy. My ukrainian friends go to sauna all the time. They're still alcoholic dumbasses lol
I think CK was trying to explain that in general people don't have time or money to think in trivial ideas like should I get a sauna or a cold plunge today. The majority of people are like how am I going to afford rent this month..
That's such nonsenes. God I can't stand this nonsense. If you work construction etc, hearing a bout something like a cold plunge is amazing. And believe it or not plenty of us live in cold climates where we can't exercise outside most of the winter because we're not rich enough to live somewhere that isn't cold. What drives me nuts is the implication that just because you don't have a lot of money means you somehow have none. If you value a thing you can make it work.
No, you can't "make it work". There are situations so dire, you could not imagine them. And that's just in America. In other countries, there are situations that, not only can you not imagine them, they are unfathomable to the people in them.@@dixonhill1108

True to a degree but you act like someone who’s worried about money has ZERO other room in their head for even a trip to a sauna. I don’t think you really thought your comment through

Purposeful* suffering. The point is that when you make a conscious choice to be uncomfortable it makes dealing with life discomforts so much more manageable.
@@bryandleconte and back to the point CK was making which is that you need a certain altitude to do that over the average person to the extent that joe has done it; to the point where it becomes meaningless because you are so safe and far from real discomfort
What do you get when combine a luddite and a misanthrope? You get a Louis CK. The ironic thing is that they think of themselves as progressive, liberal, and in touch with the "struggle" and the "little guy". These people are a complete disaster not just because they are regressive and illiberal but they have deep seated hatred of other people. They have more contempt for the human condition than the worst religious fanatics. As a general rule these people are clever but entirely useless. It's already bad enough that they produce nothing of substance but because they think they possess deep wisdom and a key to life they direct all of their utilities into nefarious and deleterious means of poisoning the collective well of society. If nothing we do brings nirvana immediately to 100% of the world then there is no point in anything but carrier pigeons. He touches upon illegal immigration. If you thought that so called progressives want the broke people of the world to come to US because they hope that it will improve their quality of life, here you have your revelation. They hope that it will destroy the quality of life for everyone. They don't understand and don't want to understand that the struggle is never over but it is one on the cerebral level. He could spend his energy and mental abilities on improving the efficiency of a million things around him. That's what useful people do. They work tirelessly and think endlessly about building a better battery and roads that don't need snowplows and salt in winter. He's not upset that people in Kathmandu don't have snowplows, instead he has these romantic notions about how these admirable people struggle and wants that misery to remain and spread to everyone, everywhere. Penicillin, GorTex, laser eye surgery ??? No, no, no : early mortality from simple infections, Cilice (look it up) hairshirts, frostbite, and magnifying glass. Scratch that, magnifying glass is also too advanced to get the true feeling of what life should be like according to the perverts.
Louie is 100% right Joe is just having a hard time realizing that most people dont care or wont benefit at all from cold plunges and saunas. Sure they have terrific benefits, it is just so far away from necessity and importance that unfortunately Joe's mixed sense of priority cant see reason
People have lived for literally thousands of years without a cold plunge. That proves not having one is not a problem. Rogan just doesn't get it because he likes it.
@@get8bit cold plunges are the dumbest fucking, guru spitting, nonsense bullshit thing I've ever seen. It's just so fucking lame and cringey and a waste of fucking money.

Something I relate to Louis about is how he’ll just talk (acknowledge he doesn’t know what he’s saying or how he feels) to flush out a feeling/thought.
@AndyUrWald well I was implying that your fanboy instincts kicked in because I had a laugh (I wasn't even insulting him, like you stated) about Joe, and immediately felt the need to defend him. But hey, I am not saying this is what happened here, it is just my interpretation.
You guys are so basic. Comedians are not funny at all. Ever since Donald trump ran, all comedians became boring as hell. Do you drones actually enjoy listening to Dave Chappell talk about his millionaire problems?
It's all relative. To Joe it's important but to someone barely paying their bills it may not be at all. Doesn't mean it ISNT important. Just that it is relatively unimportant to certain groups
cold plunge is super important, I live in Iraq and I've got a buddy who fought in war and lost both his legs and his house, and then doctors diagnozed him with cancer, and then in one of Joe Rogan's videos, that he is constantly binge watching, he heard about the benefits of cold plunges and started doing them, now he lives in LA, works as an assistant manager and both his legs have regrown full size
Louis isn't wrong, his whole point is that humans are always trying to perfect things that are fine, everything is just fine. Then we gotta drain another resource to be more fine. The point stands, humans have never had a better quality of life, and also been this unhappy.
I love this quote. It’s worded well and sort of indirectly relates to your point. “Never before has a generation so diligently recorded themselves accomplishing so little.”
His body has been completely destroyed. Guy has about 15 things wrong with him. Believe it or not a lot of his fans are working class guys who've beaten up their body doing real work. I promise you Joe would trade 80% of income to be as healthy as his "broke fans". The point is physical poverty is real and Joe talks about things that give people like that hope. I live in Canada icebaths are cheap. My gym has a sauna.
I d understand ppl like Joe on the issue you're adressing, since many many ppl out there talk horseshit left and right, even ppl who i admire because of their actions, eventhough having their hearts in the right place, ppl like Joe, with or without the brains, ppl who are ignorant to what ppl has to offer, they escape the nonsense thru cultivating themselves, but also they develop a rampant rejection to almost 90% of other ppl s input in the process. I think it's a coward, self absorbed, and shallow life unworthy of living, no matter how much comfort or gains it brings on a sensational, healthy-wise, or intelectual level. But as i said before, i understand where they're coming from, and what triggers such a desicion. I also may be wrong in some point about the way i view things, but thats what ive felt thru dealing with ppl on the streets from all sorts, the way i didnt have to ready about ti figure the world out.
Rogan definitely uses "appeal to authority" to base all his views on because he'd want people to defer to his expertise. So when he invokes what some sport scientist says about cold plunges... he'll ignore ALL points being made outside of this hyperfixation on some specific 'truth' on the topic
If he meant well he'd see to it the majority of his wealth went to better causes than his own enrichment. I've never heard of a single celeb that does that.
Louis sure is a smart mofo. I would be really interested in knowing what kind of medial he consumes becuase he is right on as far as world affairs and common sense.
@@bigol9223He's referencing equilibrium. Not policy. America is so out of equilibrium with its wealth accrual that "Every force has an equal an opposite force," so to speak. I.e., the people clawing to get in is a result of the pillaging of the world making America a shining beacon of consumerist hope in a world of destitute hopelessness. When (not if) the world finally penerates the cell membrane that is the American experiment, the world will face a major collapse of sorts as the American status quo goes beyond its means to maintain its global hegemony, all the while the home front faces absolute squalor for the bottom 3/4 to 4/5 of America at least. This would have global consequences in Europe and China, of course. But this is what happens when a massive suck on global resources, as Louie describes, goes on for so long - its effect on the external environment becomes cancerous, and the external environment responds in like. For the world to find fulfillment, balance must be achieved, not hyper success of a few at the cost of the misery of the billions. This is inevitable.
Agreed. He is funny because he understands how society and the world works and can shine a light on it in amusing ways. He reminds me of George Carlin.

I like how lois spends 5 minutes telling Joe how out of touch he is, only to spend the next few minutes proving how out of touch he is normal life too. Lol
Joe is still an athlete in his mind,hyper-competitive,always pushing himself to be better CK is the ordinary guy living life, not caring much about performance, just experiencing down to earth struggles
Louis is right here. You can't optimize everything in life. If you did everything these experts say you should do, you'd basically have the daily routine of a professional athlete: heat exposure, cold exposure, eat X amount of protein, eat Y amount of fruit/veggies, train Zone 2 cardio for 5 hours per week, lift 10-20 sets per bodypart per week, do this exercise not that, etc.
Yeah, the question is "optimize for what?" You're not on the Savanna anymore following animals to survive. Your supercar's leather steering wheel preheats while your personal chef poaches your eggs before you head out for your elk hunt in $20,000 of gear. The optimization thing is creating problems at the top of Maslow's Hierarchy that don't exist, because you've solved the rest. And it inevitably leads to wanting immortality and reversing aging, every time.
@@goodolarchieexactly and if you add in any evolutionary theory you might have just spent all of your time prepping for a battle that you will never have to fight, and there's a million different battles you could have been preparing for to better all life in general. Class warfare like this in a country where everyone has all of their needs met while people in China are literally getting killed working in horrible conditions so we can buy shit at Walmart for $3.99 is ridiculous.
Louis is right about Mexico having depth. Have to go there and see it for yourself but it's way way more than what you see on Netflix narco dramas and whatnot.

Joe thinks that Louis is saying that cold plunges and saunas are bullshit. *HE'S NOT FUCKING SAYING THAT.* He's saying that having the conversation is bullshit because most people don't have the means to do it.
Not really, he's saying that even if they have the means they're still miserable because they're detached from the essence of life that would actually bring fulfilment. They have privilege and freedom beyond anything their ancestors could have imagined and they're still groping for more, and talking about it in groups just highlights that detachment in a gross way. Basically reiterating his point about white people problems being when we don't have any so we invent them. Joe doesn't seem to get that swimming in a river is probably more therapeutic and anyone can do it. Health and wellbeing doesn't require pretentious highfalutin Hollywood nonsense.
Louie is saying that living a life with a level of ease that allows the time for experimentation with those kinds of things will paradoxically bring on more suffering than living a life with the struggle of more ordinary people who just have to adapt to it to survive.

How does Joe's cold plunge ideas relate to me making $30,000 a year doing trash collecting and waste management who cannot afford a fancy ice bath or sauna?
The problem is whatever Point Louis CK had goes out the fucking window when he says that people should be more miserable we should have more problems and we should open the borders.

This is like 2012 Joe talking to 2024 Joe. He used to understand things a lot more clearly. It is really hard to be that rich and powerful and still be grounded in reality.
The question is about what is a happy and fulfilling life. Even if Joe is a 100% right in what he's saying it still doesn't mean that's true for everyone. Some people have it all and are still miserable, they might hit the gym everyday and eat amazing food etc etc. Perfection is kind of boring sometimes.
If you're working out and doing cold plunges just to get temporary endorphins that get you through the day but your overall fulfillment is low then you are not finding what you need from life.
