I was addicted to drugs and cigarettes before, and one day at my lowest I took mushrooms by myself, and sat there meditating while chanting I don’t want to be addicted anymore over and over. I went cold turkey since then, and it has been 3 years now.
Aaron Burton no joke I did drugs daily for more than a dozen years. After going cold turkey I have no cravings. I have noticed just being around drugs gives me anxiety and I don’t enjoy it. I feel like there’s something subconscious going on here, or it could all be placebo haha. Mind over matter.
i just got that experience 3 days before when i did MM first time, i used to smoke 1 ounce weed in 1-2 days, and a pack cigarette day, watch netflix, play video game all day, after my mushroom trip i dont feel smoking ciggrate and weed has been reduced to 2-3 gram/day from other day suddenly, i feel like my body is coming to right alignment ,i know whats right and wrong,i felt what is it to be other species, i felt whats actually my purpose as a human us, my body wanna eat natural food only, no meat, egg, milk, cooked food, processed food etc only fruits and vegetable, i was taking 2k+/day calories but now i am feeling satisfieed with 500-600 calorie everyday, i feel humble , calm, composed ,wiser than 3 days before, i didnt watch netflix and all matrialistic songs from last 3 days, dont feel like to watch, i only wanna learn new stuffs and im doing though books and internet now.
Absolutely! It's incredible to see how psilocybin mushrooms and psychedelics have the potential to make a positive impact on mental health. They've shown promising results in treating depression and anxiety. It's exciting to think about the possibilities they hold for helping people.
never in my life did i think i would listen to another human talk about mushrooms for 2 hours. I was glued to the screen paul seems like a fungi. he reallly grew on me!
Joe's face at 38:46 cracks me up every single time, just the way Paul is deep into explaining his story and it just silently cuts to Joe's flabbergasted expression lmao
I'm 76 years old and your podcasts are helping me understand how little I know, but how much I care. You give me gifts. Thank you. Thank you for Paul Stamets.
1:45:00 Portobello mushrooms contain a large amount of agaritine, which can be made in to hydrazine. Two parts hydrazine mixed with one part NH4NO3, creates a powerful chemical explosive, making this a National Security Issue. Paul’s hint was when he referred to this as an “Explosive Issue”.
IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.. THE POISON DEVIL SHROOMS HAVE TAKEN HOLD OF HIM AND IS USING HIM AS AN AMBASSADOR TO TRICK PEOPLE INTO EATING MUSHROOMS TO KILL OFF THE HUMAN RACE AND RULE THE EARTH ONCE MORE
@Amita Ami i haw'e that behind me. I took mushrooms (don't remember name) from mexico (they ship me best stuff for meditation, even that i live in Poland)and I all ready met a golden face guy in astral. So im good. What i want is more talks about mushrooms and their power so people wake up. Btw its bad to teak mushrooms more than 1 time in year.
One of my absolutely favorite JRE episodes. Paul Stamets is effortlessly intelligent and expressive about mushrooms in a wide variety of topics about the subject. I've learned so much in such a short amount of time. Joe must have Paul on again soon !

Fan of JRE for a long time but only watched clips. This was the first full show I have watched in one sitting. Mind blowing and thank you Paul Staments for the work you do. I will be diving head first in to so much more of Paul’s work. Truly inspiring
I have just rewatched this episode due to foraging for mushrooms recently and being reminded of how amazing they are. 5 years after originally watching this episode it was equally if not more fascinating and relevant today. I would be interested to know if he has done research with our recent global “virus crisis”. This man is absolutely amazing and his life’s work is probably one of the most beneficial scientific explorations of the last century that has far reaching benefits for future generations. SAVE THE BEES !
There are very few times nowadays that someone just blows me away every time i see him. I always feel like I’ve earned a degree and become enlightened at the same time. Thank you
I have something to say about Mr Paul Stamets We were wiped out by the CA wild fire. We had lost all of the books we purchased that were published by Paul about mushrooms in the fire. He was gracious enough to replace all of them and donate two kilos of spores to help with our remediation of the land. THANKS4GIVING PAUL. Thanks for all the hard work and research on that branch of our family, shrooms. Your awesome PAUL
Northern CA resident here. I was lucky to get missed by the fires but know many who were devastated by them like yourself. I've heard a few stories like this of people replacing lost possessions and donating or offering help to complete strangers, it's what we need more of in this world. Best wishes to you in your rebuild!
@1:44:50 This conversation became tense but they handled it with such respect. Nice to see that there is a respectful way of refusing to answer a question and accepting Paul's wishes by Joe.
@@prentfaiyaz If you dont see the problem..well sorry but you have to less knowledge. Knowledge can safe lifes and help humans to understand ourself and the universe. Less wars, less death humans, less natur destoyd..and you ask really for what?? Open your dam eyes and use your brain, maybe for the first time in your life..the reason we humans make again and again the same mistake is cuz a lot of knowledge is hidden❤ love from switzerland
Rewatching this again to marvel. The first time I watched this it gave me the confidence to try psychedelics and it has completely changed my mindset on life. A magical experience! Thank you Paul
Paul you described that trip better than i have ever heard in my life wow that was awesome !!!!! I love all you knowledge on this topic! Thank you for sharing
Been taking Lions Mane for one week. I discovered a benign brain tumor 4 years ago. It has caused Neuro degenerative and cognitive problems. This podcast quite literally saved my life. I started taking Lion's mane and wow. I feel like before my first seizure. At the 44 minute mark or so Paul talks about it. I may have beaten this horrible albatross on my brain. As I type I tear up. I'm a 30 year old man and I thought I was doomed forever to a life of unhappiness. Thank you for spreading your wisdom. As a JRE fan I'd love to talk about it sometime if given an invite with Paul even though I'm an average guy. Thank you to JRE for bringing these guests on. This one without any sort of exaggeration could have saved my life. I suffer from brain tumor, memory issues, GAD,PTSD (non combat),and epilepsy. All of these things are invisible and I suffer because I look pretty normal and even healthy for 30 years old. This man is a good man and I learned a lot from this podcast. Thank you Paul, Thank you Joe.
adamgm84 Still have some partial seizures but overall a healthy mix of Lion's Mane, GABA, L-tryptophan, cannabis, exercise 2 to 3x a week and a diet with proteins and veggies seems to be the key for me. Still have day to day issues but this allows me to manually manipulate my neurotransmitters. Hope this helps anyone that's at their bottom from a Neuro degenerative condition. It's possible to recover. I'm no doctor just a good student and willing guinea pig to myself.
Billig Jones i use Host Defence drops and capsules. The immune support which has about 10 different mushroom varieties, Amazing and supports Paul's work !
I've watched hundreds of hours of your content Joe and this guy tops Jordan Peterson, Duncan Trussell, Randall Carlson and Graham Hancock. This man is the only one to have drawn my curiosity toward a degree to this magnitude ever since I had done it once before almost 17 years ago. This guy is the living embodiment of purpose.
I took a half a hit of Brown Ozley back in 1973 with an elementary school buddy, he ate the other half. It was our first trip ever. We were both high school seniors. We both tripped like crazy for about 12 to 14 hours. I came down but I know for a fact, I'll never be the same. I know it changed my life for the better, it changed the way I thought and made me realize just how lucky I was to be alive, It actually made me happy as I was very unhappy since birth as my dad was an alcoholic who beat and abused my mother and beat me and my brother with no regard to our safety. When I graduated high school, I joined the Air Force and left home, they got divorced while I was i basic training. I've always heard if you want to change your life, always focus on the best things you've ever experienced in life, I got married after the Air Force and caught my wife in bed with a high school friend, she left me in the middle of the night, and I never saw her again. I didn't see my dad for almost 10 years, I was his best man when he remarried. He had angina and fell off of a ladder with chest pains and swore to God if God would make the pain go away, he would quit drinking, smoking and start going to church every Sunday. We actually became good friends his last few years. It's really amazing how you can hate someone so much, you'd love to see them dead, yet after 10 years both of us changed so much that I cried when he passed away in 1990 from pneumonia aggravated by Leukemia. There were 5 of us in my family, yet my dad died in 1990, my youngest brother committed suicide in 2001, my mother passed in 2020 at 84, my other brother died from a drug overdose in 2021. I'm the only surviving member left in my family and for some reason I don't feel like I deserve to be alive today. I'm sorry to ramble on but I know my journey through this life is slowly coming to an end, it's true that when you get old, no one wants to listen to you anymore.
IKR just watched it and still trying to wrap my brain around some of the shit!!! Think I found some shrooms in my backyard so been doing a shit ton(no pun intended) and came across this and man glad I watched!!! Big fan of the JRE as it is hope Joe don’t get censored over there but pretty sure he won’t let that happen I hope!!!
I noticed that also. I think there are studies that when people are using a lot of effort in their thought process they blink less. Their pupils dilate larger as well when their brain is putting out the effort. However, it is not clear how much effort he is actually manufacturing because many of these points have been made by him over the years in various forums, etc.
@@silverhopeful it probably has more to do with the fact that during active thought/conversation you are rapidly moving your eyes which keeps them moist and that's why you have less need to blink.
Thanks to Paul I discovered that chaga tea feeding my plants will deter bugs and animals . Also nutrition and micro diversity in garden. I also diluted in spray bottle
Joe thank you for asking the best questions always and being such an amazing listener and not missing any nuance! You have a gift and we all benefit greatly!!!
I love the seriousness and conviction that Paul speaks with. He is a beautifully educated and very well-spoken advocate of the Mushroom community. It’s wild to think that he used to have a stutter!
@@eisenwerks6388 You should know that you cannot combine those two. They take you into incompatible universes. At least that is what John C. Lilly said.
I am half deaf in one ear. I've been experiencing significant difference in my hearing while micro dosing. The first time I took one 45minutes later my hearing was so much better. I noticed the difference right away!! It's amazing!! 💜
I'm completely Colour-Blind to Red, have been since I was @3 or 4, yet many times when ive taken Cubensis I've been able to see it! The world blooms with colours and i cry each time. Its a Gift.
@@michellefasano6357 i micro dose less. But my hearing is so much better! Even when I don’t micro dose. I also went to eye dr a month ago, and after 10years of needing glasses, I was told my eye sight was great and I didn’t need a new script for glasses. It was hard to wrap my head around it!! It’s very cool! 😎
I would just like to remind everyone that Paul also helped isolate a certain variety of oyster mushrooms that actually *eat waste petroleum/oil and metabolize them into harmless compounds.* When he says fungi can save the world, he's entirely serious. I only wish he was a household name. Him saving the bees would be a greater accomplishment than Edison's improved lightbulb. People could eat dinner by candlelight. People can starve to death with the lights on though.
Jeff Maylor hahahaha slap yourself. what a closed minded moron hahaha. you are fucking laughable. p.s. your mom has your sandwich waiting upstairs young man
Jeff, you sound like the type of ignorant guy that really needs a mushroom trip. Please dont make moronic claims like that, psilocybin mushrooms are one of the safest substances one can ingest.
Loved this episode so much! Thank you! I had a similar neurogenesis experience. I heard the flickering on one of those LED flameless (fake) candles so loudly that I had to turn it off. It was wild and amazing.
I could listen to Paul forever. He is one of the most interesting, educational and entertaining and grounded people I have ever come across. If I had a hat made of a mushroom, I would indeed tip my hat to you sir. I sincerely hope that Paul and his team on a worldwide level are funded, supported and praised for the for their work. For what it's worth I personally believe that they will find the way in which we can save ourselves as a human race, the fauna and flora and over all the planet on which we all share. Thank you Paul 🙏🙏🙏 And thank you Joe for providing the forum for Paul to be heard and providing this amazing content and for being the best host/interviewer whom I have listened to. Compassion, understanding and coexistence I am just a very average man, I don't think my words have any weight or influence. They are just my honest thoughts and I just want to share them. Thank you gentleman
TBH i don't think that line is correct. Think about all the depressed mussicians, painters and poets that have made master class art. I mean just a hand full are Kurt Cobain, Vincent van Gogh, Syd Barrett, Cody from Cody's Lab and Thom York.
Ohhh now i see where your mushroom inspiration came from. This guy got me into it too a few years back, i use my own technique to get sterile samples for growing mycelium. I made a cheap glove box, then i just dip the knife in alcohol without wiping it on anything, getting sterile stuff from inside the stem of course. The alcohol is normally dried off because it kills it i believe, but i found that it doesnt kill it completely. This way you risk less contaminants, of which i had o issues with. just drop it on some agar and youre good. There's sterile rye berry jars for sale online. I grew pink oyster mushrooms that way. Pleurotus djamor, probably spelling that wrong.
This dude is extremely well spoken and able to communicate long and complex stories in a way that is impressive for anyone, let alone someone who used to have a stutter. Very cool.
hes not well spoken. he uses a lot of words incorrectly, out of order and contradicts himself may times over in his stories. The stories aren't complex. There's really nothing here. He tries to make them complex so you don't realize there is no real story here because he hasn't accomplished anything. He blames his unnecessary use of vocabulary as a way to help with his stutter
I’m very grateful for you, Joe Rogan. This information about mushrooms has opened my eyes and mind. Thank you Paul Stamets for your passion and research of mushrooms.
You left out a part...struck by lightning. He blames the loss of the stutter on shrooms but here this whole time he just simply got it zapped out of him. They actually used to use electroshock therapy to cure stuttering back in the day. XD
I'm watching this 5 years later and the last story by Paul Stamets, actually makes sense if you put together all what he was telling about mycelium network; collecting knowledge and passing it on the same network etc. What I think happened was not he went into another multiverse, but he actually communicated or he received a knowledge about current state of nature/climate collected and transferred by the mycelium network from these mushrooms he was drinking.
Amazing that someone who has a stutter can speak so eloquently, no Ums, no pauses, amazing vocabulary. This man knows things we don’t and he’s out here to share them. It’s clear. He could be making millions and millions and be monopolising this medicinal mushroom market. However, he’s shared HOW to extract it yourself, he’s allowed you to grow it. This man is here to help us, we should listen to him
@Alexander Supertramp Yes definitely as important as this one. Exposing the war on some drugs and bringing awareness to the orwellian dictators toolkit the NSA is using are both critical issues
Me and some buddy’s did shrooms together, and it felt as if we were communicating in a weird way, we had other friends there who were being loud and obnoxious but we were talking normally through all the noise. Weirdest experience ever
Dude this was absolutely mind blowing and mind opening. I think I'm addicted to joe rogan interviewing people like this. Psilocybin, extra dimensional experiences, neurogenesis... Damn thats some good shit.
@PowerfulJRE can we get a follow up episode to this one exploring the updated scientific data? That would be awesome. Guys in the comments let’s vote this request up to get Rogan’s Attention :)
Have benefited so much from psychedelic it helped with anxiety and depression and it improve my insomnia I'll refer you to online store I bought mine they got Lsd, Mushroom, Xanax, extascy, chocolate bars and psychedelic products which they also deliver...?...?
After watching this again I want to declare a standing ovation. Bring back Paul for round 2. Id love to see where he's at in life, along with Joe's journey so far with all the people he's talked with and knowledge obtained... it has to happen
@@MrXennon1 now you mention i think I do remember that. Was he on with a other guest I think his brother? And do you know the episode number? I could always look it upni guess but thank you for the info
For anyone wondering @1:44:00 when Paul comments oddly about the Portobello mushrooms. He is doing so because Portobello mushrooms contain hydrazine agaritine which is a known carcinogen that has caused cancer and tumor growth in the lab. This is a highly controversial subject and Paul probably does not want to create a media frenzy which could have a hugely negative affect on his livelihood and the publics perception of mushrooms. He is basically the voice for mycologists and has the potential to harm societies perception of mushrooms heavily. A lot of hard work goes into getting the legislation loose enough for scientists to really study these mycotoxins and more negative press could make it even harder..
Hmm not sure about this explanation. He's explained this many times before openly about various kinds of commercial mushrooms and there's no secret, just look it up. However this silent refrain is for me at least pointing towards something far more nefarious..
Portobello mushrooms contain a large amount of agaritine, which can be made in to hydrazine. Two parts hydrazine mixed with one part NH4NO3, creates a powerful chemical explosive, making this a National Security Issue. Paul’s hint was when he referred to this as an “Explosive Issue”.
My son was a student of Paul's and has been swearing about his studies and analysis of "all things fungal" for decades. After watching this, video,.I wanna be a student as well. Thanks to all for producing this. It may very well save our planet.
12:20 "You're telling me nature is not intelligent, and yet you are born of nature using the mind to conceive the concept to challenge the idea that nature is not intelligent, when you are part of nature?"
