If you told me 15 years ago... that I'd be listening to the guy from fear factor, speaking to a Jungian Canadian superstar, during the presidency of Donald Trump...and having one of the most transformative internal debates within myself I would say, bullshit. From 1:17:00 and that next 7 minutes really spoke to me - hating essays in school BECAUSE the subjects assigned were of zero interest. Decades passed, I became a journalist/essayist, refining and clarifying my thoughts "on paper", exploring subjects that I was passionate about, even if it was for an audience of one. I am so grateful to have had one or two moments in my life where someone has thanked me for being the catalyst for their own self-improvement. They did the hard work but they were thanking me... so humbling.

Listening to JP is becoming so much more interesting, intriguing and wholesome than church services on Sunday...If you listen well enough, its so much better!!....Such a blessing this man is to mankind....Pastors and reverends...take notes!!!.....

I've identified two problems. There are probably more. 1. The most significant problem is that >95% of churches are feminist. They redact whole sections of the Bible because they offend modern feminist sensibilities, their sensibilities. Feminism and Christianity are not merely mutually exclusive; they are in a battle to the death. When churches become feminist, the Word is corrupted, and they become heretical. 2. They self-censor to avoid losing their 501c3 tax exemption. Churches have submitted to government bribery and censorship.
@rorehmani
@rorehmani Месяц назад
I guess it depends who you listen to on Sundays. I've had that same feeling in the past too, but it went away once i started to listen to pastors who did expository preaching so well, that i was eager to hear the rest of the message. And of course, it also helps that later in life, i went from cultural Christian to someone who truly believes in Jesus Christ. It made the Sunday messages much more interesting, once i had love for who the message was about.

I think sometimes about Peterson's wife. I recently saw the documentary on Peterson on amazon prime and she says she has "lost her husband to the world". I would assume because of all the time it takes up for his (what I would call) crusade. She has stood by him and "been a great help". I think maybe both Jordan and Tammy Peterson have made considerable sacrifices for our benefit. For that I am grateful.

Introduced a 17 year-old student to Dr Peterson's podcasts as he was a self described nihilist and very deep thinker. He look so sad the day I met him. He said life was not worth living. I was concerned for him. There appeared to be a darkness in his face as we talked and he seemed without hope. I saw him again yesterday. Wow different young guy. Standing taller, happier, there was a light in his face... He couldn't wait to share he was still listening to Dr Peterson's talks and was really enjoying them. I am so grateful I had something to offer him that first day I met him that made a difference to him.

yeah but i've never understood how religious people fall so short then. they fly planes into our buildings and kill 7000 people... that's obviously what the bible says NOT to do...i'm sure it also states the same in whatever "book" like the Koran and any other volume. so , given that, why are religious people murderous beyond belief? even if they don't KILL anyone, they still picket gay funerals, they still step over the homeless person dressed in their best sunday suit to hypocritically show off their piety. given all that, i'd have to agree with Hitchens, that religion poisons EVERYthing. when we can actually golden rule our lives, i'll swallow your religion whole. but since that IS NOT what i see happening when our preists diddle little boys, then avoid procecution and relocate to another field where they can repeat it. there should be no such thing as a rich church, yet the vatican has more gold than morals in any case. so we follow the "book" as interpeted any way we want to , you know, to break the rules stated clearly, but doesn't apply to them at all. they also shouldn't be tax free just because they were taught religion while their brains were still soft at age 5

As a theologically conservative, conventionally religious Christian, I must stress that Jordan Peterson's Christianity isn't Christianity in any historically meaningful sense. He is a Jungian who borrows Christian imagery and applies his own meanings to it. I enjoy Dr Peterson's material for the most part, but he's causing confusion about what Christianity is. For those of us concerned with doctrinal orthodoxy, we have a lot of trouble with Dr. Peterson's use of Christian symbolism. Lest it be said that this is an issue of interpretation, Biblical scholars, linguists and the like can demonstrate where Dr. Peterson and Mr. Pageau err in their understanding of the text, so the issues are matters of fact rather than interpretation.

I dont know know how much this may mean to you but im in the USMC, and I joined bc i felt going to school and just "going through the steps" was killing me. I wasnt happy and that led to me being bitter towards everyone and everything but ik that i could do more and i WANTED to do more so I joined and plan to continue school eventually and im doing all of this to help as many people as i can yk? I pray it will be enough if I keep thinking critically and make the best of everything. Make the most of the present opportunities. Never allowing myself to feel above doing what needs doing. 5M views for watching 2 people talking for 3+ hours, with both agreeing and dissenting views without shouting over each other, calling each other some kind of -ism/ist, and just having an actual normal discussion. This is what our country needs. Not hatred, not berating or denigrating each other, just having a personal conversation between an American and a Canadian(ehhh)

To be fair, this is two people who essentially share their fundamental world view and respect each other. It's not going to get heated. It's essentially an echo chamber. I agree with your overall sentiment though. It's amazing that content of this depth becomes this popular, when we've seen the trend media takes with short, click-baity videos and articles.

@@LCaaroe It may have to do with one of them being a traditional conservative and the other a traditional liberal. They are more central in their beliefs and can come together to discuss difficult subjects in a cordial manner. If you put even 1 polarized /extreme person in a conversation, typically nothing is learned because they are unwilling/insecure to accept any other views that contradict their own. We as people/countries/world need to meet in the middle to be able to actually HEAR/UNDERSTAND and enevidably LEARN about each other. Media/gov't are trying their hardest to polarize the world and they are winning at this point.. but I have faith we will see through this before it is too late.

Madness, shallowness and disdain, even "narcissism" come from thinking heavily. Part of that is cleaning a little every day. It's something I struggle with as well. It's so "easy" to just drop something on a chair or leave it on a desk rather than put it away. Which contributes to clutter. Part of this folds back to the personal responsibility and how we go about managing our responsibilities, first to ourselves and then moving out from there. I'm not great at it either, hell I keep trying to get the motivation to start working out to improve myself, it's hard and I find myself pushing on all sorts of margins trying to be better. It's hard. It sucks. It's also rewarding.

I deleted my social media, and stopped watching the mainstream news once I got accustomed to longform podcasts and debates. It's so refreshing and educational. I'll be honest, in the past I would have rather thrown my TV out the window than watch 3 hours of their "news". This is where progress is made, and people can actually learn. Well done.

@UncleJemima420 For sure. Whats crazy to me, is that after deleting my social media, I would still reflexively open my phone and look for Facebook at dozens of moments throughout the day. (maybe more) Almost like any time there wasn't enough stimulus in my immediate environment, I would just go there by default and tune out the world. After a few weeks, I quit doing that and I noticed that I feel so much more aware of my surroundings. It sounds super stupid maybe...but like, I travel a lot for work and I notice people/animals/things...what they're doing around me. I feel like giving it up has not only reduced my stress, but lifted a burden off my mind. I don't need to come up with any snappy one liners. I don't need a "current/trendy" Facebook profile pictures. It's been super good =)

@UncleJemima420 Again i agree with everything u said , i like his books and his thoughts about life and how to make it better ,what i dislike is his argument about IQ and race , it tries to promote white supremacy when a cultural thing would be the right argument eg. Asian americans(Chinese & indians) are most sucessful & rich per person in usa but u would think looking at the state of India & china that wouldnt be the case . he boderline calls black american dumb & unsuccesgul by genes which is absolutely stupid , the argument for african americans being unsuccesful can be attrbuted to cultural phenomenon of single mother raising kids no father around , having a drug problem in black culture & hating authority

Jordan’s breakdown of Joe’s strengths was so: 1. True 2. Extremely well thought-out 3. Well-articulated 4. Weirdly heartwarming There’s something in here that is indicative of how to give a good compliment. I think Jordan acts out what he describes in his lectures about the one who ascends to the top has eyes all around his head (pays attention) and speaks magic words (uses well-articulated and effective speech). He really paid attention to Joe, broke down why he’s successful, and then effortlessly stated it back to him in a really genuine way. Think if we all did this with those in our lives.

I completely agree with Joe. Jordan is completely misrepresented by the left. I am a moderate liberal and don't find any of his views offensive. He is just spreading knowledge that has been lost on the last two generations. He is changing this world for the better and giving people their lives back. I climbed out of a deep dark hole of post partum depression following his lectures and ideas. I am so thankful for his knowledge! Thank you Jordan for continuing on your mission to help others with your knowledge despite people trying to defame and delegitamize you ❤️💪

+Knuckles Da Echidna Not that they are "secretly Christian" as if they are just pretending to be atheist. He means subconsciously, athiests still base their moral framework on a foundation that was established by western Christian theology and the teachings of Christ. You make it sound as if he is suggesting that atheists are all closeted Christians which is not the case. They just tend to have a very simplistic and juvenile understanding of Christian ideas and their cultural significance, as though it only goes as deep as their grandmothers conception of some bearded man in the sky.
@alf9708
@alf9708 6 лет назад
Brianna Larson - to believe that Christian theology is the underpinning of everyone's morality is to believe a moral man didn't exist before Christianity. Explain Aristotle. Explain the moral Chinese atheist. Also, much of Christian belief is itself derived from earlier religious mythology, so where exactly does the heredity of the atheist moral system begin?
@Code_Dee

There's not much to misinterpret, and when he gets called out on for his more incendiary views (that women should basically be forced to have sex with incel men) he just claims he's being misinterpreted. It's a common defense for pop intellectuals, claim you are being misinterpreted and that your musings are just so intellectual that nobody but your super-smart fans can understand it. I'ts a way of both sidestepping the opposing points and flattering your fans and keeping them on your side, Sam Harris does this too. I'm glad you are in a better place in your life, but I don't think people on the left are misinterpreting Peterson. He gives common sense lifestyle advice (clean your room) and intersperses his own right-wing ideology and talking points (maintaining hetero-sexual norms is imperative for society). You don't need to support patriarchal hierarchy to be able to better yourself. extra reading - www.currentaffairs.org/2018/03/the-intellectual-we-deserve
@dmerrill85m
@dmerrill85m 6 лет назад
Cody Davies - While you make some valid points with his "common sense lifestyle advice" and he does have some right leaning ideology that does come out in some of his views/actions I think you are COMPLETELY wrong about your first sentence. If you actually read the articles or heard the discussions you would see that Jordan was not in favor of..."that women should basically be forced to have sex with incel men." If it wasn't for that statement I would of held you statement in higher regard. If you actually think that Jordan proposes "that women should basically be forced to have sex with incel men" please find me the article/interview where Jordan said that with ALL RELATIVE CONTEXT. Not your selected media site version. If I said to to my wife "I want to beat my wife in a game of tag" and the only thing you quote from it is "I want to beat my wife" then you are MISINTERPRETING what I said. I have read part of the "extra reading" you decided to post and there are several spots in there where again, the author decided to "edit" and misrepresent what Jordan is saying. I will continue to try to read the biased "extra reading" to hopefully find some actual valid arguments but so far it just seems like this author is complaining that everyone who likes Jordan Peterson has "lost it's damn mind" and that he is a fraud.

I like Jordan's ideas, but I definitely would not want him as my dad. He is uncompromising and talks in absolutist terms. He is very assured that he has it all figured out correctly, and there seems to be little room for other ideas. This is great if you are a lecturer, but it's no fun to be judged your entire life by your father, it'll just make you resentful and not want to be near him, or worse yet rebellious and physically combative.

The thing is, coming from a coach, (hard to listen to 2 non coaches talk about pedagogy) is that if you scale and structure the teaching correctly, you dont have to try to push a meaning onto anything, as the structure of the class holds it within it. the conflict comes when you scale and progress the class unnaturally for their abilities and stress means you try to teach meaning directly, and in the face of skill acquisition and a score keeping game like soccer, you end up bombarding kids with 3 levels of nuance that causes even more confusion and stress. Like the 'medium is the message', the structure and scale of the class carries the pedagogical meaning within it as to not be overtly obvious to the kid, like in school, when you re in 4th grade, you do not realize that you re preparing for precal but the curriculum is set up, to scale, for that process to happen subconsciously. You do not try to teach a 4th grader that in 8 years you are going to need to know how to do huge equations so you can get into college, cos all they ll ask is 'whats college?' and you ve confused and stressed the shit out of them when you re trying to teach them simple math.
