Always been a HUGE fan of Mayhem ... very unfortunate that his career didn't pan out for the better - not all his fault by the way. At the core - Mayhem is all heart and good people.
He has one of the best resumes of former opponents. Lawler, Tim Kennedy, Bisping, Shields, Sakuraba, Jacare twice, both Diaz brothers at once, the LAPD….
@@Vladivostok29 it doesn’t really matter. The dude fought the best of the best and held his own in most of them. Sure the latter part of his career was messy and disappointing but in his prime he was a beast. It’s not always just about who lost. Having competitive fights with GOATs and UFC champions makes you an elite fighter at that time.
@@Delltah1 if the wins don't matter from the losses than there are infinitely better resumes. The wins DO matter from the losses and a lot of those losses we're not close, they were dominant. Mayhem was a personality that you either liked, or didn't. He was a top 15 talent for a while but that's it.
@@chakadoo it would have been highly competetive for no other reason than neither fighter had strong controlling wrestling which was both of their weak points and the fact that they both fight to finish. Mayhem had fantastic jiu jitsu, so does Diaz, probably edge to Diaz in striking and the clinch would be pretty even too considering Mayhem had a good thai clinch background
@@tomwhiteside1779 mayhem was probably the slightly better striker but diaz had the pace and was just unknockoutable if you didnt like actually kill him would have done what the diaz does and just wore him the fuck down until loss most likely. its a bummer mayhem went nuts like the dude.
People too young don't understand during the early to mid 2000s Jason Miller was KILLING it. He was winning many fights, he had a great TV show called Bully Beatdown I used to watch with my brothers, one who passed away four years ago. Which makes it mean that much more to me. Jason was an amazing grappler no one wanted to get on the ground with him. He had been fighting since he was a teenager imagine the effect that'd have physically and mentally. I'll always love MAYHEM.
So, what's your point? Does that invalidate Jason Millers victory over a legend? 41 isn't that old in mma. This isn't boxing. A mixed martial artists versatility, skillset, and experience can keep them in the game a lot longer than a boxer, plus mixed martial artists take far less punishment over the course of their careers than any professional boxer in the same course of time. Sakuraba wasn't Chuck Liddell as far as his style is concerned. Sakuraba was a world class grappler, submission specialist with loads of experience. Grappling ability doesn't deteriorate with age if you stay in shape. The thing you are missing is what actually took place in that fight against Jason Miller. Against most guys, Sakuraba probably would have been able to pull off that submission attempt, but Jason Miller was able to break the submission, keep Sakuraba on bottom, and then submit Sakuraba. That has nothing to do with age. That's all skill.
Mayhem - when you get out of jail and ever look at these comments. You still have fans who are rooting for you! Become a coach or something! You can do anything.
Mayhem is also a great guy IRL. If you can tolerate hyperactive high energy people, there is no better friend or training partner than Jason. Love the guy
Agreed. Sakuraba was not Sakuraba at this point in his career. I think the Mayhem from this fight could beat a prime Sakuraba but it would be competitive.
Prime or no prime, ground and pound strikes, broken submission attempts, and a submission finish has nothing to do with age. Those punches to the head, that top control, and that arm triangle would be just as effective regardless of how many years you have lived and fought. If Sakuraba was 5 years younger in that fight he still would have had just as much trouble in that situation on his back against another great grappler that could match his skill level. It always pissed me off when people use age to dismiss a victory. Mma isn't like boxing. Mma fighters often fight deep into their 40's, and still look good because of their skillsets, experience, and versatility. I find that as long as an older fighter stays active they usually don't lose much ability in the ring. It's when guys retire, and take years off of fighting before coming back into the octagon that age really shows because you can't get better at something by not doing it often. Would you step inside the octagon with a 41 year old Sakuraba, a 47 year old Dan Henderson, or a 47 year old Anderson Silva?
@@donavonhoward114 You dont know much do you? Think about it. Anderson Silva just recently got beaten by a youtuber. Before that he was on a losing streak and struggled against a fighter he shouldve have beaten in Uriah Hall. With age comes wear and tear and diminished chin and reaction time. You mention Dan Henderson who chin was made of granite, but by the end of his career got knocked out by a jab. So youre tripping to think age doesnt matter. Sukuraba knee was basically hanging by a string, and his body is broken down. Perhaps Mayhem can still beat him in his prime, who knows, cause itll just be all guess work. But the fact still stand that the Sakuraba that fought Mayhem was a shell of his former days. Go watch some of his old matches, his movements and transitions were like art. By the end of his career he could barely move right. Those are all facts. Not guess work...
Dude Mayhem was fucking badass absolutely 100% but dude citing so much credibility from beating that fossil of a man that was Sakuraba is no where near the big deal people make it out to be
Crockpot, totally agree. By the time they fought, Sakuraba was physically worn out and a shell of his former self. You can see that he just wasnt all there (mentally and physically) for that fight, so not sure how much can be made out of Miller winning.
Mayhem back in the day was my hero man he's the reason I started working out and trained in Kickboxing man I know his fighting days are over but the guy was more of a badass in the cage than most give him credit for ,I wish I could thank the man for turning me onto doing what I love that being kB
That fight was in 2010, and Sakuraba was LONG past his prime. He was 41 years old. I watched this fight live, and thought it was a mismatch when they announced it. Mayhem was at the end of his prime, and Sakuraba was battle worn at that point. Neither Sakuraba nor Mayhem have won a fight since.
Miller was a Badass for sure, Sakuraba obviously wasn't peak here and his knees were wrapped up like a Mummy but either way Mayhem put on an impressive performance. I loved watching Bully Beatdown back then haha. Nick Diaz vs Mayhem Miller would've been great to see.
Loved growing up and watching him, really hope he can get things dialed in. Been sad to see how things have taken a toll on his mental health over the years, but he was fucking good for a dude who was never "exceptionally gifted" at one skill or another for a fighter. Dude was always down to show up and try his best
I am from Oahu. I got to watch Jason live out here . He made an impact on mma in Hawaii, one of my favorite fighters as a kid. He was a game bird out here. Super brawl days
Mayhem Miller used to be part of the Rogan crew, and i believe had i helping hand in popularizing JRE. During his fued with Nick Diaz a lot of people had eyes on him, and tuned in to Rogan podcast to here about their Miller/Diaz brawl on live tv. Too bad the dude went off the rails.
Saku could barely walk and stand straight. That not a great win. That’s like getting into a fight with a five year old and bragging that kicked his ass.
He was only like 41. He was younger than Glover Texeira was when he won the belt and the same age as Randy Couture was when he beat Chuck the first time for the light heavyweight interim title. Arlovski is 43 and still winning in the UFC. The wars were definitely the biggest problem though.
Mayhem definitely a original badass! You either love him or hate him...for me he's awesome! Bully beat down introduced me to Mayhem....awesome show too👍
Sakuraba had no knees at that point and had been through too many wars, but Mayhem Miller was still a badass. Shame he's still msot famous for that MTV show where he best the shit out of bullies for fun.
Exactly ...sakuraba was out of his prime when he fought Miller. But at the same time who's saying this? Joe rogan? The guy who said Rhonda rousey can beat floyd mayweather in a boxing. fight
Oh c'mon Joe...Sakuraba was advanced past his prime. He had so much tape on his legs you unleashed a curse when you opened his dressing room. Mayhem was good but he could never beat Sakuraba in his prime.
Gsp vs mayhem( UFC 04/05 maybe) I thought was prime mayhem. George was running through everyone. Mayhem lost without a doubt but it was such a good fight and showed his potential, even if his career went downhill fast after that.
Crazy part was, that fight was at Welterweight. That is the only fight I can remember Mayhem fought at that weight class. Usually he was Middleweight or Light Heavyweight. I remember in an interview Mayhem called himself " Skeletor" when he fought GSP.
Haha came to comment the same thing. He did it to get a reaction out of the Japanese crowd. Anime characters always throw the peace sign as a "V" for victory. He knew that would get a big pop lol.
While I was watching this I swear to yuns my Binder where I sketch is a couple a feet from me an It says Monkey Cult With a Monkey smiling. An I ain’t Going lie I was jaw dropped When Bisping beat the Breaks off Miller.
What do you think he's been doing? He's SO much healthier than he was when he was in Cali. Go back and look how he looked on the last episodes of "The Church" and now. He's lost a lot of weight and cut way back on the "weeduh" lol.
A funny story about Mayhem when he fought in Hawaii. Locals in Hawaii hate White people and think they are all weak. If anyone knows about Hawaii, racism is king here. I'm a Haole that grew up in Waianae in the 70's and 80's where fighters like Max and Kimo grew up and where anti-white boy sentiment is highest and here comes Mayhem to challenge Waianae and other fighters from Hawaii and he would be in enemy territory talking mad shit with people wanting to kill him. He was a crazy White boy and he would be at the Blaisdell arena taunting Hawaiians in the worse way like challenging their manhood and he would destroy every fighter including Robbie Lawler and Niko but he was fighting other local fighters and submitting or making them sleep. It was a crazy time in Hawaii MMA and I was chuckling the whole time because most locals don't respond well to being taunted and then beat up by a mainland Haole. Good Times and by the way this was about the time Max was King of Ulu Wehi
