Joey's look, her body and her style of dance and the intensity of her execution was really revolutionary and WAY ahead of its time for a female pop star in 1965 . It still looks contemporary today.. She was the template for the dance oriented performers to come like Madonna, Janet Jackson and especially, Britney Spears. With her beauty and dancing and singing talent had Joey come up in a later era she would have been a major superstar. The world simply was not ready.
That's entertainment. The quality of both her dance & singing voice is unparalleled. She eclipses her talented contemporary, Ann-Margaret, in each category. Would have LOVED to see her perform in Vegas. Sorry I never got the chance.
Joey Heatherton was born on September 14, 1944, celebrated her 76th birthday on Monday September 14, 2020. She is an American actress, dancer, and singer. A sex symbol of the 1960s and 1970s, she is best known for her many television appearances during that time, particularly as a frequent variety show performer, although she also appeared in acting roles. She performed for over a decade on USO tours presented by Bob Hope, and starred in several feature films including (1965) and (1977).
Her father was a song and dance man, but I can't recall his first name. I remember seeing him on Joey's short-lived TV show. She learned a lot from him, I'm sure,
Thanks so much for posting this. I only wish Joey would realize how many fans she still has and grace us with just one more song. PLEASE??? Paul O aka Jimmy WIlde
Such a dazzling talent. Wasted mostly except for her sparkling guest spots on TV shows in the 1960s. In another era, she would have been an instant mega-movie star.
On this day in 1965 {September 16th} Joey Heatherton performed "I've Got Your Number" on the premier episode of the NBC-TV musical variety program, 'The Dean Martin Show'... The song did not make Billboard's Top 100 chart... She had two Top 100 records, a covered version of Herlin Husky's "Gone" {#24 in 1972} and a covered version of Brenda Lee's "I'm Sorry" {#87 in 1973}... In 1964 she received a Golden Globe nomination for 'Most Promising Newcomer - Female' for the movie 'Twilight of Honor'... Ms. Heatherton, born Davenie Johanna Heatherton, celebrated her 73rd birthday two days ago on September 14th {2017}...
@@rca6576 Yes she did. Thanks for supplying that information. She also studied modern jazz, voice, dramatics. She also studied early on with Dixon McAfee School of Dance. I knew someone who lived in Garden City who knew her dad. I also went to the tv show the Merry Mailman as a child after the show and saw her dad.
Did a little dectective work. It was five. I looked at some TV Guides on microfilm at the library for confirmation. She was scheduled to appear on the Ed Sullivan show in December of 1970 but pulled out. This was about the time the incident involving Lance Rentzel happened. Disregard the about Joey's six appearances on Dean's show.
That's a good question. She appeared at least five times on Dean's show between 1965 and 1968. (Does anyone out there know the exact number of guest appearances?) Joey was also a regular on DEAN MARTIN PRESENTS THE GOLDDIGGERS, a summer replacement series, in 1968.
@TreyMcIntyre LOL I saw that too. After the mishap, he made sure to look up and gauge the space before lifting Heatherton up, so as not to end up smashing her onto a number.
At 3:58 watch how the dancer on the right smacks into some of the numbers swinging above. Somehow, when they lift Heatherton up near the end, she manages to avoid getting bumped by them!
An Amazing Talent - career derailed in part by her husband's actions - - exposed himself to a seven yr old girl - - unfortunately she is deceased now - - what she could have been with Fosse 's guidance - at least as Big as - Minnelli - maybe bigger - Adorable as a Cupie Doll - Talent to Spare - Don't make them like THAT anymore - Hollywood trashed her - Shame on Them - she is unfortunately deceased now - 🤔😔😪😩🤔😞😞- May she Rest In The Sweetest Peace - 🏵🌻💐🌺🌷🌸🏵🌹💐🌷🌈🌅🕊🌫🌫🌫💨🌟💎💟💟💟✌🌈🌅🌊🌊🌊🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 :°>°(°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° (§)........💔💙💔 ✌👀
@sumyoungay If you read her lips when she's calling out the football play, she's blows one of the numbers -- looks like she's saying "72" while the vocal is "92." But it doesn't detract from her talent at ALL.
@bobbymoya Re. the social security number--that's just what I was wondering (was that her real number?) and thinking (wow--she'd never do that these days).
If born some 20 years earlier, she'd have co starred with Kelly and Astaire in major musicals. Some top Hollywood dancers were dubbed on songs, not Joey.
Late 60s, early 70s, were a weird time. Censorship was loosening up on television. At one point, the networks started showing nudity in prime time. Then Reagan was elected, and all that was locked down by the "moral majority."
Even though I personally don't like her, just a word to the negative commenters here. First, you're probably VERY young, which would explain your cultural ignorance. Second, you can't judge yesterday's pop culture by today's standards. What do you think that Bieber and GaGa will look like to people, 45 years from now (as if they're not ridiculous-looking enough NOW!)?
@@lilybond6485 Of course not. But If you said ‘every girl alive wanted to look like Lola Falana’ you’d have a great many people thinking or writing that your comment was completely wrong. You’d have to think of the implications of switching it up as I just did. Need I explain more, or do you understand?
I would like to see singer pink do a remake of this song rock and roll style, dressed imitating this very outfit and same haircut but in pink with a little bit of a 2018 feel to the performance
Wow. I fell in love with this song when I heard Nancy Wilson sing it. She was phenomenal but Joey is not bad either. Her voice is pretty good. But, she's no Nancy Wilson.
Nancy Wilson has FABULOUS legs and a voice and style to match. Joey's cute and has a sex-kitten but her attribute pale in comparison to the SEXY and musical Ms. Wilson. SHe took American music UP to a new level.
+sharpasaneraser That's funny. I got on here today to check out Joey Heatherton because I have been watching some great Second City TV DVD's & while I remember Joey, Catherine O'Hara does her as, "Lola Heatherton" and does some strange exotic breathing during the songs that I kind of thought I recalled Joey doing. A sexy, vibrating type breath. Haven't ran across it yet though. I was a young teen but she did it for me back then. U
