Joey’s aggression and the way he hits the kit is something that Jay simply doesn’t have. He’s got skill for sure, but he’s missing that IT factor that was so apparent in Joey. RIP legend.
Its called dynamics or attack. Joey hit certain notes harder, but not because he was better. Thats natural to do that . Jay is more about even attack and tempo, thats harder to do.
Yeah and you can hear each hit on each drum, which makes them sound dence and not the usual hollow sound drums gives off, and what makes Jay great is that he uses his own style
i love them both but joey has a special place in my heart and is the reason i play drums , joey is the only celebrity death i have ever cried about and im sad that the only concert i saw him in i was too young to really understand anything going on
Yh I totally hear u on that, saw them with joey when I was too young to appreciate it fully. Totally fucking socks. See, getting old and isn't completely useless.
Every time I see that first clip of Joey playing eyeless and his hair is going in circles I keep thinking he’s going to take off in flight like a helicopter! 😂 😂 😂
Both are insanely skilled drummers, but joey has that x factor, he's so great and looks so good playing the drums, he was the reason why I started listening to slipknot
honestly, i can never compare these two in terms of playing style just from the beats they made for albums. joey comes from slipknot’s heavier, faster, more aggressive times while jay comes from their more melodic, refined, yet heavier progression to now. both are wonderful drummers in their own rights and i’m glad to have them both be in slipknot
exactly. He's not Joey. And people keep saying from what I've seen is he's not as good or the right fit. But he's the perfect fit for the band. He may not be better but he's fucking awesome and can slay. People need to stop bitching
You immediately recognize it's Joey behind the kit when you hear any song he plays on. Also, Joey's hands were just as fast as his feet and that's why when he'd play fills it sounded so unique cause his feet would be incorporated in weird patterns with his hands.
Joey was just pure, raw talent with many musical gifts. These guys came from completely different backgrounds. They’re both awesome, but pure talent for composition & energy goes to Joey. I love Jay as well. Self taught and artistically gifted in many ways. Pretty awesome that he was a Slipknot fan as a kid & is now their drummer. They’re both incredible. Maggots are lucky to have both of them & continued music from the band. Rest easy Joey & Paul.
My thoughts 1. Joey seems to play much faster with less fills. He seems to mostly focus on rhythm. 2. Jay seems to be more technically skilled, as is he tends to play harder fills and beats. 3. Joey mostly likes double pedal. 4. Jay sometimes does double pedal, but not nearly as much as joey.
I think both drummers have massive amounts of skill but I think it comes down to their techniques, Joeys speed was absolutely insane and the aggression he hit the drums with made one of the best sounds which gives me nostalgia. Jay is still around the same level as Joey (with eyelets being an exception to that) he has very good technique but it's probably a bit to early to say that Joey is better than Jay as he hasn't reached his full potential due to the time he has been in. Either way, both are iconic drummers who made the band what it is today, Rip Joey and keep it up Jay
Weinberg is basically a metronome. Joey actually made songs. You cant substitute percussion of any Slipknot early work with something else, it will loose its pattern and become completely different song. It was probably the first nu-metal band to be driver by percussion patterns so much, which kinda made it stand out back in 00'. Percussion they have now can be shoved around with whatever crap you could come up with, it wont change song at all.
Y no olvidemos quien forjó Slipknot...
I will always have mad respect for Joey and personally believe he's the better of the two, but nonetheless, Jay is still a badass drummer. Jay has my respect as well. Both are truly talented
Joey hands down is and always will be my favorite drummer he is the reason I started playing drums ,, jay is good but Joey is Simply the best RIP Joey miss and love you
R.I.P. Buen video!
I’ve been listening to a lot of bad metal lately, and it made me really appreciate the precision and feel of great drummers like Jay and Joey. Lots of drummers try to do what they do and end up just flailing around, making a mess of the track and dragging everything down.
100% agree. Jay is a very talented and skilled drummer, but he stays in the pocket too much with his writing. I can't help but feel he's just 'jamming' in a lot of the songs he's written drums for
Both of them are 2 of the best at their art. Jay had big shoes to fill and I think he has done an outstanding job at keeping the Slipknot drum sound. I can't choose who I like more they both have great styles I try to mimic in my drumming. Think I lean more to Joey just because he was the original
Gotta be Joey Jordison every time, he will always be one of my favourite drummers!! God bless your soul Joey till we both drum away together in heaven, R.I.P. 🙏
Joey is best drummer I’ve ever seen!!! Dude played wit such speed nobody for that time could match!!! Got to meet him as well at Oz Fest 04 in Tampa, FL!!! Was pretty kool about takin a pic n autograph as well!!! Side note met Corey Taylor as well back stage!!! 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥 R.I.P Joey
The thing is they are two different people with two different styles of playing the drums joey and Jay are both amazing on the kit they have and never will disappoint its just a tragedy that joey is no longer with us. Jay is a great drummer joey is a great drummer I don't understand the whole who's better when they are both two completely different people.
I always loved joey when I was younger and I WILL STILL LOVE HIM TILL THIS DAY. My favorite member of Slipknot will always be with me when I play drums
Joey all day, everyday!! He was always my favorite member of Slipknot. Joey and Chris. Joey was a great songwriter as well. Joey had the heart....music was his life, and he said so often and I think that shows.
Joey Jordison will not be forgotten about along with Paul Gray. Both are core foundations that Slipknot was built off of. Jay just a really awesome filling in the role and making sure he is not Joey Jordison, but his own musician. Much respect to these amazing performers
That first clip of Joey was my first experience with slipknot. Probably first experience with actual metal music. It legit changed the direction of my music library completely and I started playing metal music.
@@curley3168 as musicians I think they also get tired of doing the same types of songs constantly. This doesn't apply to artists like Dave grohl though
Both amazing drummers, but Joey is way more hardcore and aggressive on the kit than Jay is, doesn’t take away from the fast that they are both extremely talented musicians
Their first album came out when I was a teen so I'm always going to be somewhat partial to Joey no disrespect to Jay. I've seen both drummers live and even though it wasn't Joey the second time Jay sounded absolutely amazing and he killed it. It sucks Jay is out for sure and I wish him the best in the future. I loved both of them in the band and as always, RIP Joey.
Jay is just a copy of Joey, don’t forget the master pieces that Joey gave to all of us, jay always is gonna be a good drummer but he will never be at joeys level, Joey was the personality of slipknot
