Jane is just a smarter character overall but if he were to encounter Johan in a Cat and Mouse situation to try and put him behind bars, he simply couldn’t. Johan is too good at direct and emotional manipulation and would get himself out of most sticky situations that would put him in jeopardy. Jane would read him very well although Johan is too cunning to get himself caught in any of his tricks

Jane wouldn't even try to put him behind bars. One example is san joaquin serial killer where jane indirectly manipulated red john to get that guy killed. Jane doesn't hesitate to kill someone if he deems the person dangerous

You know, considering Jane's past (which is pretty public knowledge) and all the shit that happens with him throughout the series, and considering his more self destructive and sociopathic tendencies, if they were to go at eachother, there is a high chance that Johan could make Jane kill himself. Or he could just make some random CBI employee kill him, or some random pedastrian. And I mean, in the Mentalist we constantly see Red John outsmart Jane, the only reason he gets found out is because of a series of mistakes. Johan doesn't really make mistakes, except when he wants Tenma to find him, and during Ruhenheim, but at that point it doesn't matter to him because his plan was to die anyways. Like he is so good that the police didn't even believe he existed until after Munich, which is when he changed his plans, and he wasn't *as* careful because he planned to get shot by Tenma at the ceremony.

But unlike Red John, Johan in this scenario has no motive to play cat and mouse with Jane, he would just get rid of him the first chance he gets. And he has a lot, and I mean a LOT of ways to kill Jane. He could use Janes mental state, his lost family, his lost friends and lover, his willing drug abuse to get to him and make him kill himself. He could get a random CBI/FBI agent to kill Jane, he could get a random pedestrian to kill Jane, he could hire hitman, he could use his followers, he could frame him for crimes and use the police, he could literally just burn down the CBI/FBI HQ Jane's at, he could get some random serial killer to kill Jane, the possibilities are endless really. Johan isn't RJ, he isn't in it for the game or for fun, he's there to kill, so he will kill.

You overestimate Johan, he is much more stupid than Red John. Jane makes very few mistakes, John beat him in many ways because of his influence. Patrick almost caught John several times, but his accomplices either committed suicide or were killed. You underestimate Jane's psyche very much, it's impossible to make him lose his temper, which can't be said about Johan, for example, when he saw a book about an Unnamed Monster in the library.

@@user-uy5ku6cy3v You talk about Red Johns influence beating Jane, as if Johan didn't have the secret police of Czechoslovakia, extremist organizations throughout Germany, dozens of serial killers across Europe and the German economy both underground and otherwise under his thumb. He could, again, also get basically anyone to do what he wants them to. And you overestimate Jane's mental stability. Not only does he lose his cool more times than Johan does, but he also was in a mental institute for years, is a repeat drug abuser and also has people he cares about which would be a big weakness in this matchup. And unlike Red John, Johan doesn't have a discernible identity. He rarely shows up himself. He also made fewer mistakes than Red John. Johan was only sloppy twice in the story, both times he was planning to die, so lose ends didn't really matter. Red John constantly makes mistakes, even if he manages to clean a lot of them up.

@@blazi5218 For anticipation it goes with Cold reading, and I think there's no real debate on that since it's pj's strong point, for Linguistic intelligence I don't remember any feats by pj so I'll give it to Johan and for kinesthetic intelligence pj takes this point quite easily given that as a mentalist he knows perfectly well how to control every part of his body from the muscles of his face to attract attention or even hypnotize his targets, and for Johan he has quite a few feats on that point but not enough work imo to be compared to those of pj

Johan has been able to anticipate several events throughout monster, since he was 10 years old in kinderheim 511 that he destroyed from within, he anticipated and calculated everyone's actions so that they killed each other, the same thing happened in the town of the massacre at the end from monster. In linguistic intelligence, Johan is someone who is fluent in several languages, learning them in a very short time, has remarkable verbal comprehension and linguistic intelligence. As for kinesthetic intelligence, Johan was trained with various military martial arts, having remarkable kinesthetic skills as he was trained to be the perfect soldier, this can also be seen in Grimmer who received the same training as Johan and can quickly kill several men armed, which also counts as kinesthetic intelligence It should also be noted that Johan has faced much more complex challenges since he was a child than those faced by pj

Complexity & thought process ≠ better, in fact it's actually the opposite, seemingly simple yet effective methods for end result are superior, it being offscreen doesn't mean it wasn't explained or was an asspull, Monster just doesn't spoon feed the audience breakdowns of said actions. The outcome should be measured based on what the character did, not how good the scaling is. Stop's scaling is subjective. When measuring the intelligence of a character, looking at the complexity of their explanations is not the right approach. Monster is very different to anime like Death Note, COTE, Tomodachi Game & Moriarty the Patriot as Monster’s main focus isn’t on the battle of wits mind games between the MC & the Antagonist, it focuses more on the Contrasting Philosophies instead and how they impact people they interact with, general Intelligence & outsmarting is at best a secondary factor in the show if that. It’s high diff at the absolute minimum.

@@WorldLeader12345 Well yeah but even taking into account the fact that his manipulation feats are extremely good his feats on the rest are very weak and that's a fact in outsmarting manipulation is not enough and as you said if Johan lacks feat on screen it's only because the author wanted to keep the mysterious and elusive atmosphere of the character, I understand this choice and it's better that way for the writing of the character. But does that impact his scaling? Of course it does, and people tend to forget that, which is why I think he's overrated (in terms of wis, of course, otherwise he's easily the top 3 antagonists in the world).

How can people actually like the mentalist. It's so boring, every episode is barebones the same. You got the husband or wife that is cheating, some unfunny jokes with the relationship about the 2 coworkers, the Chinese guy screams at one suspect but gets nothing out of it and so on. I really treie but I'm stuck at season 1 and so far Patrick Jane did not do very much if I am completely honest
