Soundtrack album should be released . This score is not only one of his best but also shows his genius sense to use ready-made song “love me tender” effectively in the film.It shows that Barry was interested in only the way to give higher potential to the movie. This is the essential difference from another composers.
This is a very moving movie with excellent performances by its main stars Deborah Raffin and Diane Lane. The late Deborah was always good to watch - as was Clu Gulager who also starred alongside her in the made-for-TV movie 'Willa' the previous year. Both films had appropriate and exciting scores by John Barry. The main theme is especially nice. Diane Lane, who was only 15 when this movie was released towards the end of 1980, went onto play Vera Cicero in Coppola's controversial 'Cotton Club' (1984). In 1981 she won an award for 'the best young actress in a major motion picture' for her role in this film, winning two awards the previous year for her performance in 'A Little Romance'. Barry's music was based on the American Civil War ballad 'Aura Lee' which was also the basis of Elvis' 'Love Me Tender' (1956). It's a beautiful score and would have stood up nicely on a CD since there's 45 minutes of music in the film though a lot is made up of short cues. which often repeated the main themes. The main title is particularly nice - not sure why you have omitted that - maybe it was corrupt on your source material? It features some great guitar work.
