I like the fact that Catherine O'Hara gave the eulogy. She was the mother in Home Alone and they shared some good scenes together in that movie. They must have been really good friends.
shame, and he was only 43. when he passed away I thought of him as "older", but now I'm 42 and it's just sad to think of how young he was. always liked his films.
47 now and what seemed ancient to me before seems so young now...when seeing older films this really seems apparent, people seemed to age so much faster then.
@Mary C I am 46 now but so far still going fairly well. aside from back pain (bad discs) but age related I guess. my mom passed away 2 yrs ago at 69 but they felt it was due to a bleeding ulcer. my dad is now 75 and still going strong, I hope to take after his side of the family. aging scares me, especially once you get over 50 they suggest all these tests like you're some kind of ticking time bomb, but as of right now so far so good, I still feel 20 so when I see a wrinkle or gray hair it floors me.
I’m 43 now and always thought he was in his fifties. I was 17 when he passed away and heard the news at school. Was really sad the rest of the day. Can’t get over how you he was.
I cried after Catherine O'Hara's speech. It's so emotional. I think we can all see the tears in her eyes. When I watch them together on SCTV and in Home Alone I can't stop thinking "They look amazing together! They are so funny!" He didn't deserve to die. Rest in peace John! We love you! 💕
Ok.. Catherine O'Hara's funeral speech actually made me cry :( She and John Candy were amazing in Home Alone. Candy shot his scenes on only one day and improvised the dialoge about once forgetting a kid at a funeral. What a guy! He'll be missed forever and can never be replaced by anyone :(
I wish I'd known about the Toronto memorial in advance. We lived 2 hours from T.O. at the time, would've been so worth the road trip. 1:02 is the hardest to read, a constant reminder of what was, and what could've been... 💔
I had the amazing privilege of meeting John 3 times at YYZ in Toronto. Once, he got up from his chair in the first class lounge to introduce me to his wife, son and daughter. What an honour to meet them all. Miss him terribly.
I recall after John's death, his close friend Steve Martin fell into a state of total depression. He even turned down the role of the The Riddler in Batman Forever, he was that heartbroken.
@@kresnatherobloxminecraftga5526 Just rewatched PT&R 2 nights ago (my teens watching for the first time..we wanted to watch a rare "Thanksgiving" themed movie)..knowing John passed, the ending hit me SO much harder now! Very nearly cried! Funny movie, but emotional ending!
As a kid in the late 70's early 80's John gave me and my brother tons of laughs to grow up with watching SCTV. His loss was tragic and he's just an irreplaceable talent!
the world has become less funny by far losing John candy and many other greats . and now the world has become more serious and more sensitive now that these great people like John are gone
@@MrHalo087 there can always be more people who are true comic gems like John Candy, Robin Williams, Rodney Dangerfield, Mantan Moreland, Dudley Moore and the likes of other true greats....too many to list. Only foreseeable problem is not enough originality.
It's such a shame he died young. He was one of the all time great comedy actors. Absolutely brilliant personality and you could tell he generally didn't care what people thought of him (which is refreshing for Hollywood). RIP John Candy X
That's the whole point of the poem I wrote months after: He was a wonderful man, a generous man, a hilarious man with a zest for life, and a brilliant career yet his future on earth was swept away too soon He has earned a place in heaven for all his hardships and all of his work yet he made the most with his friends and family but all of his happiness and all of his joy were swept away too soon We must now forget the past and we must get on with life and its ups, downs, and sidewayses yet we must always remember this genuine person since memories are all we now have because his great life was swept away too soon
I still remember coming home from school and my mom telling me John passed away. I was absolutely stunned, just like everyone else that day. Such a kind man taken from us way too soon. You were and always will be the man, John. RIP My fellow Canuck.
I remember first hearing about his passing, when I was ten years old. He was always one of my favorite actors, and he seemed like such a great guy. RIP John Candy
I remember John passing, very vividly. My brother and I were very saddened to hear the news.As we were both big fans of his movies. It is particularly hard for me to remember,as my brother died a few weeks later at the tender age of 24. 20 years ago now,but the pain is still strong. Two great people who both made me laugh.I hope you are in a better place now, bringing joy to others as you did with us left behind.Who miss you very much.
I wonder how many Americans only know John Candy from movies. You have to go back to the SCTV days, he was great. Johnny LaRue, Doctor Tongue, great stuff.
What a guy how can you not like him, his smile his face the look of a great man, the only thing we will miss will be you john, be safe and stay next to god [ we miss you john candy ] thanks for all the smiles you put on our faces R,I,P, YOUR THE GREATEST
One of the best comedian actors. Such great comedic timing but also so wholesome and lovable. You can tell he was kind and never let his fame get to his head. What a loss.
It's 2024 and I still watch and look deeper and appreciate your movies, Mr. John Candy. Full of laughs, wisdom, and memories. You'll always be in our hearts and memories. ✊🏽💪🏽
I loved john candy and i remember hearing the sad news of his passing as if i had heard it today.... What an amazingly talented comedian and actor john candy was... He left way too soon, Rip dear man.
I'm 31 and watched John's films as a child growing up and still do well into adulthood. He was one of these sweet kind souls that you knew was just as great onscreen as he was off, there was no faking it with him, what you see on screen is John Candy being himself. It still brings a tear to my eye when I stop and think about how much I miss his presence in the world.
My heart is still heavy. Grew up watching him. SCTV, Johnny La Rue, Detective Harry Crumb and his numerous "disguises" including the world's heaviest Jockey!..
Can't believe its been 30 years!!!!!!!!!!! It just seems like maybe 10.... Man I loved everything he played in Including SCTV...very fun and funny guy...
He was only 43. I am from Greece and i deeply admire all his works as equals. He was so talented and it is a with out a doubt a huge lose for big Screen. Rest in Peace ny friend, Give the rythm, Give the rime in Paradise.
He is one of my all time favorite comedians and a good human being. He gave me laughter during times of sadness growing up. God bless him and the other comedic talents of the 80s who have passed on.
This man always made me laugh out loud...truly sad he went young..In plane, trains and automobiles he said "I love who I am"...So do I John Candy xxx :(
It still hurts to this day in 2022 that John Candy left us so soon when he did but left us all a great gift the gift of getting to see him in action in the movies he was cast in and how talented he was 🇺🇸🇨🇦
The day he died, I can remember very clearly. I was very sad and very upset. As, in the back of my mind somewhere, I didn’t want to believe it… but I knew because of his weight, height, and love for food, and cigarettes that it was sadly going to be a short life. The crazy thing is, all he got in, in that short life is more than most of us get in… if we get 100 years. He is a great example of living life to its fullest, doing everything you can do to be and stay your happiest… and treat everybody as if they are your best friend. John, I love you and I miss you. I wish you were still here every day, because this world truly needs you now. Thank you for everything you did to make people smile when they were feeling their worst. You are a true example of an incredible human being in a blueprint for how people should treat each other every second of every day. Everybody should strive to be even 50% of what you were.
Gone almost 30 years now. I remember when he passed. I was 10. I remember crying because the guy that made me laugh in all those classic movies was gone and couldn’t make movies anymore. I now watch all those movies with my children and they love them and we all laugh together. Thank you Mr candy.
I was a kid when i first saw John on SCTV. Absolutely made me laugh all the time. Dr. Tongue, Johnny LaRue, shmengie… peppy long socks and more. Pure talent who is sourly missed
John Candy was and always will be my favourite hollywood actor. Rest well John, you wouldn’t believe the shit that Hollywood has gone to since you’ve been gone.
Orange whip, orange whip, three orange whips! John Candy was an incredible man!! It seems like everyone loved, and respected him!!! Count me in that group!
i grew up as a somewhat fat kid and i clung to this mans work.....he inspired me a great deal....the physical comedy, the one liners as well as his terrific acting ability...only the lonley and jfk really displayed his overall skill...john candy was a mountain of a man in stature...his presence was even bigger...stripes,uncle buck, summer rental, sctv, plaines, trains, the great outdoors, harry crumb ect.....bravo johnny.....you did good my friend....r.i.p
My favorite comedic actor of all time. I remember when I first heard the news. One of the saddest days of my life. To me he will always be immortalized as Del Griffith in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Always admired his charisma, he looked like the kind of man who could talk to anyone about anything and anywhere and make them feel good after a chat and a laugh, loved his movies.
John Candy is / was one of only a handful of actors who could make you laugh merely with his presence...right up there with Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Groucho Marx, W.C Fields, and Charlie Chaplin...never saw him do anything that didn't crack me up...RIP John...
I can't believe that John Candy was only 43 years old, so young. Right now in the year 7/7/2020, I'm 44 years old and I've dealt with being over weight since I was a teenager. I have to make sure that I have a long life.... RIP Mr. Candy :-(
This bothers me more and more that such an enormous talent is no longer here yet there are people causing harm to the world and it seems those people like forever. The world isn't fair but people like John Candy will live forever in some way.
He was talented. Happy. Friendly. Likable. Brought joy and laughter to people. He was very heavy at the end. He looked way too stressed. I’ve read about his cravings for food. They were powerful and constant. There’s got to be a cure.
He was appropriately named ...Candy,. he was a sweet guy , and a great comedy actor,....loved his movies , my all time fav as got to be Trains, planes and automobiles,.... its funny, poetic , nostalgic and as a feel good vibe at its core,.. rip mr candy
I heard his dad died of the same thing at 35 and his grandfather at 42. Most likely they had some kind of heart defect that was going around in their family that doctors weren't really understanding at the time, and even if he didn't smoke or carried 300+ pounds or did drugs he wouldn't have lasted much longer probably.
I believe he was actually 400 lbs., when he died, not just 300 lbs! Also, my brother saw him in a Manhattan bar, around 1991 or 1992, with his entourage & had an estimated 23 "screwdrivers" in a few hours! I loved the guy too, but you are not going to live long if you don't limit yourself! My brother, who weighed 260 lbs., lost nearly 100 lbs. after Candy's death & never gained it back!
Thanks nut for sharing the vid. Such a wonderful human being that we hope never to forget. Brings so many wonderful memories growing up and that's how we should remember him - all the smiles (and tears) he brought to so many.
It happens more commonly than you think. At least he didn't suffer in this way. I was only 4 when he passed and was too young to understand. But watching his films and reading about him makes me wish there were more authentic people like him in Hollywood today
he was an angel he should still be here. one of the best ever. he's rip in the best place, and when we ge there, he'll be smiling at us. but for now he smiling down at us, waiting for our arrival, by plane, train, or automobile :). RIP John you're always loved and missed thanks for everything.
Just recently received CANADIAN BACON on DVD after ordering it on AMAZON. Always loved him in this film. Between him, Rhea Pearlman, Steven Wright, and Kevin Pollak... my God, what a riot. GOD BLESS BUD BOOMER! 🤣🇵🇷🇺🇸📽🗽🦂😎
Gutted when this man died he was adored by so many. Planes ,trains & automobiles my personal fave when it's on t.v I have to watch it till the end it's a magical movie. RIP John Candy Legend.
Back in the 80s when John did Only The Lonely in Chicago. I was hooked on that movie. I actually use to pass the off Clark street every day when I went to work. One day I got off early & took the bus back to that house. No one lived there & so I walked up those steps. I stood there happy because I could picture Anthony Quinn next door & there was flowers & seeing John wearing his police uniform saying hi to Maureen Oharra (His mom) It's been 20 years since I did that? But happy I did! R.I.P John
I love THE GREAT OUTDOORS . Actually met co-star Dan Aykroyd (Uncle Roman) a few years ago....Christ...he's TALL! But, I digress. Love John Candy =) His characters always have a lovable quality.
