The Monty Python legend hasn’t always had a way with the ladies. As he tells Tracy Smith, it stems from his relationship with his mother, who suffered from depression and debilitating anger.
I do admire Mr Cleese's honesty with his emotions and personal life and I saw another interview where he said since he had therapy he had lost his work ethic, it makes you wonder how much of what most of us do all day is tied up in some neurotic impulse.
Wise words...the creator of 'Tubular Bells' Mike Oldfield had something called 'Shouting therapy'...it took away the force inside him that was driving him to make great music because he was never the same
Gosh, what a loving son he is. To listen for 2 hours, attentively and empathetically, to his mother's worries, is such a selfless act to do for another person. I'll remember that example.
I grew up with John Cleese, on tv that is. I've just started watching his interviews and sketches and I've come to the conclusion he is a great guy. He is open minded, authentic, immensely intelligent, very balanced and has humility. There is very little ego there. But if you look on his body of work its astonishing, tv, film, business, etc.. All totally unlike today's celebs who have all the pretention and none of the talent.
John Cleese is a living embodiment of self-awareness & getting to grips with things at a very deep level. That's what makes him a greta comedian and this snippet here - he's discussed stuff to do with his mother in more depth in his biog, too - shows that the 'cause/effect' he mentions , is also what has shaped or at least facilitated his comedic talent
i love john's honesty abt this aspect of his life - it helps other ppl and i think his dad saved his life giving him the normalizing stable influcence.
I love how john doesnt tip for around each question that could become controversial. He just rams into it and treats it as it is (Just a question. That's all.).
@ 01:54 If a son has his mother's blessings, he can conquer the world. Image if Mr Cleese had his mother's blessings, what he could have done. Bravo to you, sir.
Honestly, some people might be able to have babies, but that doesn't mean they're fit to raise them. What's kind of sad is tay with that kind of mother, you come to realize your ability to love someone who very nearly destroys your life. I'm glad he made it past her.
He tries to act cool, but inside, Cleese really likes Tracy Smith. He would love to impress her. You can see it in his eyes. And she looks unbelievable for being almost 50.
Some men are late bloomers with regards to perfecting interactions and confidence with the opposite sex. Wealth and fame doesn’t solve the barrier within the mind.
