I would have preferred his show get renewed, but Constantine being in Legends is a good compromise. Him being added is what made me start watching Legends, truth be told, even if the premise is a bit odd.

I believe he and Zari are a thing in the comics that's why But I ain't too positive tho I have to check back

As a magician, he isn't that powerful, he mostly uses occult magic that any human can learn. Even though Constantine is Homo-Magi, he doesn't really spellcast anything powerful. His main defensive ability is his bloodline magic which is luck, his bloodline has the ability to be at the right place at the right moment. Other than that, he mostly just talks people into losing. John Constantine comes from a long line of Laughing Magicians. In terms of spell power, he is below the likes of Zatanna, Shazam, Mordu, Fate, Mxy, and Spectre. Constantine learnt occult magic because for the better part of his career, he didn't even know he came from a lineage of magicians, he thought he was a regular human.

Shazam has a RIDICULOUS edge in power, speed and ease of using direct magic (the Z stands for Zeus and he can spam those lightning bolts all day if he wants). In a 1-on-1, no preparation fight, Shazam would kill Constantine in one punch before Constantine has the time to cast a single spell. However, given time to talk and prepare, Constantine would turn everything into a trap, find a way to depower Shazam and take Shazam's power for himself. You can see Constantine struggle to survive every time he comes across anything at a power level higher than a baseline human, unless he can prepare.
