Replaced the one on my 425 last summer. Had a heck of a time figuring it out. Ran fine and then back fired and would not start again. The forum someone posted for you is a real boon to anyone with just about any issue. Good channel!
Yes, it seems a bad TDM can cause a variety of problems. Fortunately, changing the one on my 425 seemed to fix the issues I was experiencing. I have heard of other owners needing to change them often. However for 20 years, I have never had problems with the TDM on my 445.
It did the job now for 6 months, I plow with it in winter. Now doing same thing. Gues it could have been a bad part. Would you recommend another Amazon, or JD part?
My part came from Amazon, and it continues to function just fine. However, if you are concerned about the quality, you might want to pay the extra money and get an OEM JD part.
@@tesser5250 : Hey bud... I tried tagging you with my last comment on this thread, but I don't think it worked. Please read it when you get a chance. I know it was rather long-winded, but I'd appreciate your thoughts.
Definitely going to try this. I already sunk money into a new coil and new plugs, but this sounds exactly like what is going on with my tractor. Only running on right cylinder even though there is 13 volts at the coil. I'm guessing there is no signal from this TDM box. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I would change that blue connector to a butt connector with heat shrink. that type of connector in the open can cause trouble with moisture starting corrosion and loss of connection. Learned from experience
REplaced mine today because it would start and then die immediately. No luck in my case. I can hear my fuel pump but I need to check it to see if it's pumping the proper initial amount. Not sure what else to check.
I like the content, however a scotch lock (blue connector used on the positive (red) wire) should not be used in this application. Eventually it will get wet, corrode and cause problems. Splicing that wire should be done with solder and covered with heat shrink. I would have unhooked the battery and avoided the splice.
Tesser52 I hope you’re good luck holds up. I have got about 3 years on my current one but I use aftermarket pieces. The 425 is a great tractor by the way. I have around 1625 hours on mine but I did refresh the motor a couple of years ago by replacing the cam , doing some valve work and replacing the reed valve. The ring wear was not even noticeable so I left the bottom end alone. That was about 150 hours ago and she still runs like a champ. Have a good day sir! Thanks
