I have a Yanmar 1601 D tractor and according to my research my tractor has the same engine the 3T75U. I just had the head gasket replaced on my tractor and in the future this video will really help when I rebuild the engine. At the moment, my tractor only has 630 hours. Thank you so much for your detailed video!

I'm so happy to hear that you choose this video to assist with your Yanmar repairs once you rebuild it. Usually these engines are bulletproof (when taken care of), and they will last for a very long time. A nice thing about these engines is that they are in various types of equipment, so most Yanmar engines are very similar in performance and compatibility. This makes it just as easy to find parts if needed. Thanks for your wonderful comment. Regards Andreas

That is the same engine in my 1998 855. Trying to determine how to replace the front engine mounts. Good video!

Yes correct, it's from the JD855 tractor. Getting to the engine mounts isn't the hardest thing to do on this tractor.

Hello! Thanks for this terrific video series on the JD 855. I'm refurbishing one right now starting with the tired 3TN75RJ. Two questions: I'm not familiar with FridayParts. Have you found them to be a good retailer in terms of accuracy, shipping time, etc.? Did the injection pump need anything other than a cleanup, fresh oil and setting of the timing? Did it have any leaks or other issues? Thank you.

Learning more and more from your play lists I am reviewing. Have a Gator with the smaller Yanmar 3TN66 so your JD 855 engine's rebuild is a God sent. Have notice important differences in small diesels. My 1986 Kubota B7200 compact tractor uses a Kubota D950 engine. Kubota installs dry sleeve in factor before installing engines. If cylinder wall gets damaged bore out old sleeve and install a new one. Yanmar uses engine block for first cylinder wall and dry sleeves later if engine is rebult. Seems Kubota can use milder cast iron for block than Yanmar? Any insight as to any advantage either way? My kubota has a 20 second glow plug heatup before engine start. The Yanmar 3TN66 has only a 5 second preheat. Hope you can explain that to me. Is it just different glow plugs? Good topic to cover. Tom
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild 2 года назад
I'm glad you can find value within the videos I share! It really makes me happy to hear this. The Service Manual shares details on your engine as well (Link in the description). You got that right! If Kubota uses milder steel during the casting process, they might be able to cut costs. Now when it comes to machining, their machining process is probably dialed in that they can "Sleeve" these engines within a couple seconds. This is achieved by a well-structured machining plant. Kubota probably produces "New Sleeves" and "Rebuild Sleeves" to the same size, which will same them a bunch of machining-time and material cost. Yanmar must have had a larger cost upfront for the engine block, but they do not have to deal with the dry-sleeve method. This really depends how they set up their factories for not just one engine model, but for hundreds of models! Small changes to a mass production runs can cost millions!! I had a look at the glow plug models and they seem to be exactly the same for both engines. On the Yanmar engine I have here, they have the extra air intake heater. Maybe if your Kubota ONLY has glow plugs they recommend 20 seconds and if your Yanmar has glow plugs and an air heater you can get away with only 5 seconds of glow plugs. These are my thoughts so far, but maybe you have figured it out by now. I hope this helps and thanks for another engaging comment! -Andreas

Very informative and excellent quality video that is greatly appreciated as I am currently assembling a 4TNE88. Do you have a procedure for fine timing of the injector pump inward or outward and alignment with the flywheel timing marks if required? Thank you!
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for your positive feedback and I'm happy to hear that you're taking on your own Yanmar rebuild project! I do not have a video discussing the injector to engine details. All engines usually have a different degree of fuel injection and some even have a different pumps. On Yanmar engines you inject fuel anywhere between 12-18degrees BTC. You should also verify this with cylinder #1, closest to your flywheel. After that all cylinders should be timed. I hope this helps. Regards Andreas

Am I able to replace my crank bearings from just the bottom end without needing to remove crank and pistons. I have the yanmar 3tna72uj. Thanks again for all the great info
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild Год назад
Hi Scott, in order to access or remove the main bearing caps, you would have to remove the oil pan extension (plate between oil pan and engine block). I believe it should be possible, but you will need to support the crankshaft in a way so it does NOT drop down on you. Maybe you can loosen off all main bearing caps and replace each bearing at a time. Before you losen off any of the bolts holding the main bearing caps, be sure to make a mark with a pen across the crankshaft gear and idler gear. This way you will know the timing (VERY IMPORTANT). I hope this video gave you a little insight on how it can be done and hopefully you will manage to get the repair done! Regards Andreas

@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild Год назад
Hi Richard, thanks for tuning in and it‘s nice to hear that you have a similar John Deere Tractor! If you‘re not receiving fuel to your injectors I would suggest you check and see if your 12V inline fuel pump is working, check your fuel filter and bleed your system. In this video I went through my startup process and maybe you can find some tips that will help you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rvqs3cMLSik.html Adjusting the timing of the pump will not supply you with fuel. Adjusting the injection pump will allow you to fine-tune WHEN the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber. This has nothing to do with a constant fuel supply. If you have any other questions let me know. Regards Andreas

If you don't mind me asking how much did this rebuild roughly cost? I have a 3tna72uj2 engine in a john deere 430 that I will most likely rebuild soon. I am curious on the kit cost for an idea on mine, along with the machine shop total for all that work also
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild Год назад
Hi Jordan, thanks for asking this question! The engine rebuild cost came in at around $1700 CAD ($1250 USD). You can find the total rebuild cost at tractor cost breakdown in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wRjN7DoHhvw.html The prices can vary heavily, depending on how much work you do yourself, how much the machine shop charges and how much your parts will cost. I hope this will help you out to get a rough estimate for your own engine rebuild! Regards Andreas

Awesome video! How did you know the piston ring gap specs in the manual were wrong? I have something different in my manual.
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild 2 года назад
Thank a lot! When I checked the specs in the manual they seemed far too small. Many times when I gap piston rings, they tend to be larger than this and that's why I had to review them more than one time. With the rule of thumb (~0.004" end gap per inch of cylinder bore), you really can't go wrong. This is a very common size for naturally aspirated engines. If you add more fuel, turbos or even superchargers, you want to open up your end gap a shade to deal with temperature differences at higher rpm's. What values did you find in your manual?
@r_shackleford
@r_shackleford 2 года назад
@@WorkshopRebuild It shows: Piston Ring End Gap 3TN75 Compression Rings and Oil Ring Standard . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.20 - 0.40 mm (0.008 - 0.016 in.) Wear Limit . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1.50 mm (0.0591 in.) Right above that is piston ring groove clearance which matches the numbers in the video but in mm instead of inches. But your rule of thumb falls right in the middle of what is called for so that's good to know. Thanks
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild 2 года назад
Thank you for your response! These values are indeed different than the ones I found in that online service manual! I'm glad I wasn't off with the piston ring gap! If the values are too small I always try to double-check them online, but I did not find any other information...even though these engines are very common in older pieces of equipment. Once again, thanks for your input and hopefully your comments will be seen by others just in case they would like to verify the correct values. -Regards Andreas

I have since changed it to the second link in the video description, but here is the link for easier access: bit.ly/38rImT3 . Let me know if you were able to open the link, because it is an online pdf (which can take long to load). This service manual will share everything from the disassembly to the assembly process and share vital information of most components. There is a chapter about the 3TN84 engine and that should be very similar to your engine. Maybe the pictures and measurements in this manual will help you confirm this. @@WorkshopRebuild im having to replace all main bearings crankshaft gear oil pump and there's no video out there on this particular tractor engine I didn't see any thrust bearings on it unless they are made into the main bearing But there was no sign of them I was hoping I could find whether they either disintegrated or they weren't on in the first place
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild Год назад
I fully understand! It's not always easy to find the right video or info on a specific make or model. Most Kubota V engines are very similar, just different size pistons and shorter/longer stroke. The bearing kit here: www.fridayparts.com/metal-kit-for-kubota-d902-engine-main-bearing-con-rod-bearing-thrust-washer?gclid=Cj0KCQjwoK2mBhDzARIsADGbjeqXFt-y65eUJkOJiN9NMDN3pZQLGdstMbpNqxFOKyUH1yeGyBky4rUaAsCyEALw_wcB shows you what the thrust bearings should look like. If they are shaped like this, they should be seated on either side of a main bearing cap and the engine block. If you can't see any, then they were not installed...which is not a good thing! If they completely wore down, then you have maybe a bigger issue. Since your tractor is hydrostatic, there shouldn't be much load on the thrust bearings. If there is, then your engine alignment is way off. Let me know if you find a solution. Regards Andreas
