I watched this interview again. John Farnham sounds very honest here. When he said he liked to be in charge, but understood he was in a band, and needed to record songs he didn't care for, but his band mates did. That is what being a team player is about. After 3 years with LRB he decided to go back as a solo act. This happens all the time, and eventually there were to be more personnel changes with the band. His career skyrocketed, so I guess he made the right move. I believe he took the high road here.
LOL...he was called an over singer just to get a rise. He's never over sung, listen to the live version of Reminiscing. It's so beautiful & Farnham's vocals fit so beautifully.
Reading some comments I think people misinterpreted Roy and HG (the interviewers). They are satirical comedians so were asking many questions tongue in cheek (with a hint of truth thrown in).
He is correct. Everything Farnham said was true. The fact that Farnham did NOT come out and say that "The Goeb" is...and always has been...a rotten, backstabbing and manipulative little shithead is a testament to John's character.
@devildoc225 Lovely story....but Johnston left The Doobies hanging in limbo while he drank himself into a bleeding ulcer. Glenn Shorrock left LRB still a mediocre singer at best....but a sober, healthy mediocre singer who even recommended Farnham as his replacement. NOT the same.
No that's harsh and needless. Cover versions are just that. And at what point does an original cement itself as an original anyway? Farnham has no axe to grind and nor does the rolling door membership of LRB.
