BTW, I find I LOVE the way John speaks. The way he has such thoughtful and meaningful things to say and that he actually thinks about what he's going to say before he says it--like he wants to make sure he gets his thoughts exactly right and his meaning across before he says them. What a lovely, gentle and inspiring man...
If you wondering why John speaks this way it´s because his heroin addiction during the 90s was so severe that he even got a lethal oral infection, which could only be alleviated by removing all of his rotten teeth and replacing them with dental implants. Around this stage he probably had not have them for too long and was recovering from surgery.
i hate when interviewers don't take in consideration that they could piss john off asking them certain questions or being sarcastic or something... and i also love it how he always responds to all that, he's like so pure, so good, he doesn't see any bad thing at all, he just takes it as a conversation and he just explains what he feels and that's it, i mean... any other person who lives all what he's been through, would may be be more delicate and would respond irritably to certain comments, but he's just him
I love to see john explaining about the rockstar thing, the girl who askes the questions doesn't seem to be satisfied with john's answer but then Anthony stand up for john's explanation. Great to see the group have respect for each other, atleast at the begin at that tour. Stadium arcadiun indeed
You know it’s crazy when you watch the blood sex sugar magic doc. You can see the dynamic. The band being very much a boys club and John being this weirdo eccentric that was also maybe a little shyer and also a little more guileless in his single minded focus for music and being a little intimidated by Anthony. The dynamic between the two at the time felt a little highschool (just my opinion from that doc.) with Anthony being the cool kid and slightly skeptical and a bit of a bully to John even then, and John wanting Anthony to like him. Then when they had the massive success with BSSM, as john’s reported separately in interview, it contorted everyone’s worst character flaws and turned them into Hollywood IT boys with weird fame trappings. And what happened happened. But what’s beautiful to see in these interviews and tour clips after John rejoined the band and they put out californication is just how healthy they all seem as a unit. Anthony seems to have developed deep respect for John and for his talent and his virtues and philosophy of music (ESPECIALLY after the vacuum created by John’s absence probably highlighted just how special he was and that the success of BSSM and the bands skyrocket to fame were in no small part thanks to his contributions and that very monk-like attitude that had been met with so much skepticism by Anthony) and John in turn seems much more comfortable in himself and seemingly secure and supported within the band. Most of all yeah it just warms my heart to see that the horror of addiction and near death burned away all Johns self doubt and all the bad blood.
Flea was not being sarcastic. Truer words have never been spoken. John made them a LOT of money and they know it. That’s why they let him join and quit whenever he wants. RHCP is John Frusciante’s band. The other 3 are just his sidemen. And that’s an exact quote from Lindy Goetz, their manager.
This interview was done during the Californication tour when John just rejoined the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anthony is lying through his teeth at 3:25, and John kind of hints at it my saying "He has the money to go into a rehab if he needs to." You can tell by Anthony's tone of voice, and nervous laughter that he is lying about being clean. Anthony even says in his book Scar Tissue that he had already relapsed during this time.
The first half, he seems so gentle. You can tell this is a man who has been through some serious shit, and has had a lot of time to think. The second half, he makes a very good point. I love "I mean, who are you going to look up to, the President?!?" I think he's correct. The President is a figurehead. He gives speeches. He represents a party. He doesn't actually sit there and run the country, what a joke. There are thousands of other people that do that...people we never see or hear about.
His logic here in this interview is imo his best retrospect philosophy of his time away from the band. He seems so lucid and fresh minded here and I remember a clip from the VH1 Behind the music ep. He was still I think recovering mentally in a way around 97 98 because of the damage people were shocked after a year how far he had come. As a huge RCHP fan and obviously a fan of John's this has become my favorite interview of him. He seems so with it here, but still has that ethereal sense, but a feeling of being on the ascent of a personal creative roller coaster.
I reached to the conclusion that if I take into account John's beautiful explanation (according to Anthony) about admiring someone then I'll have to say that John Frusciante is one of those persons that I look up to. He spreads joy, happiness and peace with its music all over the world. It doesnt matter whether you know english or not. Its melodies are enough to make someone happy.
Oh my goodness you people, John had to get teeth implants which is why his speech is so slured. He was not on drugs here, he was clean, the only reason he sounds so different is because he is ajusting to the new set of teeth has. I'm pretty sure we would all sound different if we had to get a whole new mouth full of teeth.
i dont know how those people standing around anthony, flea and john at 3:00 are not going insane. if i was that close to them id probably have a stroke
3:50 I feel like Flea's comment kinda went over everyone's head, but he wasn't joking. That's exactly what happened. John made them a LOT of money. RHCP is John Frusciante's band. The other 3 are just his sidemen. That's an exact quote from their manager.

1st half- He talks about how he felt during the Blood Sugar Sex Magik tour, and how much he wanted to leave. 2nd half- he talks about his rehabilitation from drugs, and why he rejoined the band, and his influneces in the world. Like looking up to Jimi Hendrix, insted of the president, etc.
Omg I love them. I like how John thinks rock stars are better role models then the president!!!!! He is so hot and even hotter nowadays!!!! I love rhcp!!!
Is John Jesus? No just kidding. However I think he is the closest example I can find in resent history. Not only in physical appearance but in his inner world.
He's Jesus, that's all there is to it. I've never heard an interview of him while he was getting adjusted to the dentures, you know, only before and after, until now. It's interesting, he went through so many changes, and really progressed as a human being. I'd love to just hang around with him sometime over coffee and cigarettes, just to talk about guitar theory and such.
It was something that meant to happen! if he wasn't fucking himself then his whole career and not just musically would've look so much different. it's something that has to be done, everyone's got their life-time experience they have to go through in order to be a better person in all kinds of aspects, and that was his. and he's not an idiot, he got out of it, and now he's the person he is supposed to be. a new John, better one, wiser, more mature. end of story.
@shimokita2 ~ The interview has no date posted on it, but you can tell that it was done during their Californication tour. Anthony Kiedis says in his book Scar Tissue that it was during the Californication, that he relapsed on heroin. I am 99.99998% sure by Anthony Kiedis's reaction to John Frusciante's brutally honest comment that this is around the time that Anthony Kiedis relapsed.
