John Lennon was a musical genius. Yoko did not break up the Beatles, time did. They grew apart and their differences and feuding were inconsolable. The marriage came to an end. John loved Yoko and that's why he returned to her after straying. This was his attempt to win back her love and devotion. The end came like Romeo and Juliet and we all were stricken by this unfortunate murder.

I think yoko was part of the reason why the beatles broke up. she started to come into the studio. she influenced john to go in other directions. the band did not like her ideas. they felt she had no musical talent and that she offered nothing of value. they felt she had no business being there. yoko wanted john to go solo and do his own thing. she helped break up the two best collaborators in the history of rock music. I dont was the only cause, but think she played a part in it. she was pretty manipulative in a passive aggressive way.

There were a number of factors contributing to The Beatles break up. Business problems. Who to bring in as their manage after Brian died, creative difference and time to move on with their personal lives. It was like they were army buddies and the enlistment was up so time to move on.
@electricdumpling6069
@electricdumpling6069 4 года назад
The Beatles broke up the Beatles. The love was always there among them, it never went away, but with Apple the Beatles became much larger than just the four of them, and the changing dynamics within the band made them shielded. They went to the court because Paul wanted to avoid anything to do with Klein. It appeared the only way was to dismiss the band by law. Unfortunately there never came a right opportunity to get back before they no longer could.
@JoelWende
@JoelWende 4 года назад
The Beatles break up was primarily a case of four boys who were now men growing into the people they wanted to become. The break up was always going to happen, and they were close to doing so a number of times before Yoko even came on the scene. It's also worth mentioning that Linda McCartney was in the studio just as much as Yoko was, she just liked being behind the camera so she wasn't in the shots, but she was there - and she hardly gets any of the shit that Yoko does!
@Haldurson
@Haldurson 4 года назад
@@JoelWende Agreed. Linda was a white woman from an affluent family. On the other hand, Yoko was not well-liked by the press, partly because her performance art was difficult to listen to. She was kind of depicted as a crazy person, and she made an easy target for that label because of her art.

Love John Lennon. He was our inspiration. Still miss him all these years later. He meant so much to the sixties generation and beyond. He is still loved today. He was born during the second world war, in nineteen forty. Liverpool was being bombed when he was born. Back then the hospital nurses would put the babies under the beds when the alarm sounded. He was a war baby. That is why he always sang about peace and love. He was the greatest of all time. I still have all the original records from back then. You would have LOVED those times. You have a sixties soul. It shines through. You're my favourite Reaction person. The most real. Love to you and your family.

It brings such sadness to me that this beautiful love song was written not to long before he was shot dead on the street as he and Yoko were coming home to their New York apartment. I will never forget that December evening when it was announced on the radio at a Christmas party. We were all stunned and had to go home after that in total disbelief. I love seeing your unfiltered reaction and how it moved you. Lennon and McCartney brought so many love songs into our world. We need that now more than ever.

I remember when he died. This was my parents favorite song by him. Yes, he did love her. This was his love song to her after they made up after his “lost weekend”. Losing John Lennon for us, was a complete shock! Losing Elvis, and MJ were also shocks, but not like losing John. All because of some nutcase! For the record, she was only a small part of why the Beatles broke up...the other Beatles we’re pretty much sick of each other too. But, she was nasty in other ways. I can’t really forgive her treatment and attitude towards Julian, John’s first son. However, you’re right. He definitely loved her, and this song proves it. RIP, John Lennon. Incidentally, if you want to hear a song that expresses the grief we all felt when he passed, you need to listen to Empty Garden, by Elton John. They were really good friends, and that song was a tribute to Lennon. Always makes me cry. 😢

This song exploded on the airwaves after he was killed, being a year before MTV would launch and for those of us in rural America, we would not have access until Friday Night Videos launched in 1983 on NBC. To see how much John loved his wife, it felt like your heart was stabbed in sadness over the tragedy that befell them! You need to review his song "Starting Over" which came from this album and was a big hit. So sad what happened, because he was only 40, and was just getting started with the next phase of his life in music when it was cut short! I was only 12 then, so I had only grown up as a child listening to the Beatles on my parents 45s on the record player, so I was not a fan invested in the Beatles nor worried about Yoko Ono. I felt so sad for her hearing his love come through the songs after he was dead, it was so sad.

Beautiful song. John and Yoko loved each other dearly and it showed. What more than likely caused the breakup of the Beatles wasn't one person, but the fact that they were growing apart as individuals. You have to realize that when the Beatles made it big, they were in their 20s. By the time they broke up, most of them were family men with children and were entering their 30s.

For perhaps the first time, the notoriously prickly and inner-hurting Lennon reveals the depth of his feelings on record. It was probably not easy. This was part of a series of singles that did the business in the UK following his untimely assassination and there are still many recovering from it. A singular talent and a singular vision.

I love his wife! The Beatles grew up and their personalities didn't mesh anymore. That's why they broke up. People didn't like her because she's not white, she's divorced and older than John, and she was an outspoken avant-garde visual artist. She helped pave the way for the modern woman in my opinion, and made John very happy. AND she made some funky dance music. 👍

Today is the 40th anniversary of John Lennon's death. 12/8/1980. I was 3 years old at the time watching Monday night football with my dad when Howard Cosell made the announcement that he had been shot and killed. I don't remember but my dad told me that's how we found out. My dad was a HUGE John Lennon fan and his music is all I heard growing up. You know how a song takes you back to a certain time in your life? This song came out right after his death and it reminds me of 1980 and the house we lived in when I was 3 years old when all of my first memories began. Every time I hear this song it takes me back to that point in my life.

John Lennon also had a song called "Girl," with the Beatles in 1965. It was all about how the singer (presumably John) didn't understand girls and was always swayed by their beauty and temptations, and how they would lead to pain. Fifteen years later, the little boy had become a man; he wasn't interested in a "girl," but a "Woman."

It took me Years, to come to the conclusion that John And Yoko truly loved one another. I lived through all the Beatle years, the break-up and Johns divorce and marriage to Yoko Ono. There was so much rumours and hatred for Yoko I too got caught up in it. But when he started writing again. I could now see he loved her! And it was a type of love only they could share with each other and their love child. He wasn't here for me, or the Beatles, or even the World. He was a gift to mankind but he wanted to be just a house husband and Father. And why not? It's what only a few of us achieve even though it's all we want in life. Only when he started to share his talent again in 1980, was he stricken down by a sick sick person who wanted his fame did I realized just how much she loved him and my hate of her was misplaced all those 10 years. Your take on this song was spot on. But I was shocked this video had the illegally taken photo of John on the morgue slab. Who ever made the video you used should be ashamed of themselves. It was a shock then, and it was a tremendous shock now to have seen it again, since I have not seen that photo in 40 years. Peace ✌ and Love 💘. War is over if you want it! -John Ono Lennon

Those 'Oohs' 'Well well', in the chorus get me everytime. So beautifully harmonized. This is definitely his most beautiful song ever. The bass line by Klauss Voorman so simple but so beautifully delivered set the tone. I was 10 when sitting watching my fav kids tv show after school.......it was 4pm Australian time, & my show was interrupted with a single still photo of John Lennon on the tv & a headline running across the bottom saying "Former Beatle John Lennon has just been shot dead in New York", continously rolled across the bottom of the screen for around 1 minute. I had no idea who he was & why this news took over my show, but as I learned about John Lennon my music world changed forever. On a creepy note (in case you didn't know) at 3:27 in this video there's a still pic of John & a fellow with glasses standing next to him. The picture was taken showing John signing his autograph on the Double Fantasy album for the male fan with glasses. Then Lennon got into his limo & drove to a recording studio for the night. When he returned he got out of the limo & that same guy with glasses was there waiting for him. When Lennon walked passed him the guy shot him in the back. At 3:36 is the last photo of John in a body bag. I guess someone in the morgue thought it would make them rich in the future.

Yes, don't listen to those who dislike Yoko. Each member of the Beatles was idolized by the world, so much so, lifting them to god-like status in their minds. When they did break up, people had to blame someone. But John Lennon was special. He brought a powerful message of wisdom, peace and reality, like no-one else could. Just think what he would be saying to us during these troubled times we live in now.

John Turely Yoko ono yes indeed He wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. John said in Interview that if Yoko broke up the Beatles than She should also be credit for All 4 of them as of 1971 having put out good music

Also John Lennon Watching The Wheels from the Double Fantasy album was his answer to those people who wondered why he put the music aside from 1974-80 to spend time with his family.

The album came out before his murder. N by then, n certainly after, most sensitive fans had come to think differently about Yoko n “the breakup”. Now she’s loved n respected!

The guy in the background at 3:27 is Mark David Chapman who shot Lennon later that night in front of the Dakotas near Central Park. (Close to where much of this video was shot.) Lennon was signing his autograph for him. Chapman once remarked that Lennon looked at him as "if he knew" what was to happen.

Yes he said he wrote this song for any woman who he hurt throughout his life, not just for Yoko but I'm sure she was his inspiration for this.

I plan to get a tattoo of my wife’s name. And it will also include the phrase “forever half of the sky”. This is one of my absolute favorite songs and I’ve been listening too it since it came out.

John Lennon’s solo career could be a bit hit and miss at times, especially early on, but he also wrote some of the most iconic songs of all time. “Imagine” is one of these and so is this song. IMHO it is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written along with “Something” by George Harrison (also from the Beatles). John’s song writing in the couple of years before his death was back to his very best. So sad what happened to him. I remember it so clearly even though I was just 11 at the time.

Lovely song, one recalling not only Lennon's love of Yoko but also the love poetics of Smokey Robinson. BTW, I dig your lovely, insightful commentary. Regarding Yoko, she was an important avant-garde artist long before she met John Lennon. Not a little bit of racism and sexism played out -- and still does--in the unhinged animosity directed toward Yoko; the Beatles' break-up really had much more to do with the unprecedented intensity of their fame and the unbearable weight of their roles as cultural/musical "prophets" (the same weight of expectations that almost got Bob Marley assassinated, battered Aretha Franklin, devoured Janis Joplin, and overwhelmed epic geniuses Charlie Parker and Prince) thrust upon them 24/7 than anything Yoko ever did or said. On the day of Lennon's assassination, NYC kids --from tweens to twenty-somethings-- still gather outside The Dakota where Lennon lived and died. They sing his songs and leave mementos. It's so strikingly poignant, given that oldest of these kids' parents were infants when Chapman took Lennon's life. The legacy continues...
