These two SITC interviews with Professor John Lennox were part of my christian awakening when I was 60 years old . Thank you Eric Metaxas and Professor John Lennox.
Im 56 and reconfirmed watching Dr. John Lennox logic and examples and his mentioning of his mentors. I feel great to grasp these perspectives he explains to us so very very succintly. Grateful.
I’ve done that for five years. He’s such a wise person with a warm heart plus wit that bring audiences with laughters and sometimes open up the heart of the opponent.
Did you ever ask yourself where all John's millions came from religion religion religion religion and more religion books CDs etc I must say God looked after John very well but ignores children starving isnt this a wonderful God
@Javier Vazquez What is gravity if not the + - electromagnetic/gravitational forces of opposition and attraction in keeping with Newtons laws. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Now you have to imagine this because you can't see or even feel the EM forces of our Galaxies Double Torus magnetosphere that powers and holds all the Sun's, Planets, moons in position between the two energies of the double torus magnetosphere. Einstein did say "Your better of with a food imagination than a "good education" because an education like John Anthony West R.I.P said turns you into a quackademic. @@mick1gallagher I would bet you he uses whatever money he makes to help those in need, and doesn't hoard it to himself. Sincere Christians, whether they have much money or not, tend to actually do that and live on very little. Why don't you go pick on some televangelist who preaches a prosperity gospel and brags about their wealth on national television? John Lennox is not cut from the same cloth. If you want to criticize the man, why don't you refute what he's saying instead?
I recently stumbled upon Socrates In The City and John Lennox, and now I can’t get enough of either of them. Thank you SITC for this channel and for having John Lennox as your guest. This discussion has really helped me
If it was up to me this conversation would go on for hours. John Lennox is one of the greatest apologist of our time. So much wisdom, wit and wonderful insights. Thank you!
Brilliantly put, Dr. Lennox. "The water is boiling, because I want a cup of tea." :) This is what I've always said, science and theology reach the same conclusions through different methods. The immaterial creates the material. A thought creates the physical.
A respectable and great philosopher and scientist in this age. His numerous talks/debates on Science and faith in God (Christianity) are evident that he has profound and in-depth knowledge in Theism. His strong claim and genuine Christian faith are based on the truth of the gospel, anchored on the basis of logical consistency, imperial adequacy and experimental relevance.
Just beautiful! Indeed a man can be deemed as an intelligent being only when he accepts truth as it is, following the evidence, and not tries to run away from God
Very pleased to see this up. the last part is probably my favourite Lennox interview that I've ever seen. To see two of my own intellectual heroes in the same space is truly gratifying.
I don't know who puts these lovely intros together, but they're wonderful! And what a wonderful discussion between two great gentlemen! Thank you for the awesome videos! :)
@@timinator1178 Imagine thinking that he could, even in principle, consider himself in an intellectual position to call "idiot" to both of the most prominent philosophical and scientific thinkers of our time. The arrogance is quite amazing.
@@davidlara993 less so arrogance and more so lack of brain cells himself. It's this thing called "projection." Idiots don't recognize idiocy, they only project their own idiocy to that of which they disagree.
Another great interview, Eric, thank you. In the end the conclusion must always be the same: It is foolishness to deny the existence of God when overwhelming evidence confronts us everyday (Ps 14.1; Rom 1:20)!
I'm not really familiar with those arguments, have you been listening to creationists? The usual ones I hear from Theists are the Leibnizian, Cosmological, Moral, Ontological, and Teleological arguments for God's existence. I also hear the argument from the Applicability of Mathematics, the Argument from Consciousness, the Argument from Reason, and the Argument from Evil. There are also some hints of Aesthetic arguments I've heard some about, but I'm not real familiar with those either. I think they are very interesting, I'm curious, how many books have you read discussing these arguments in depth? I think you'd find them very interesting, it is an interesting topic after all, no matter what your position is on the existence of God. :)
Dd s Wow, a few decades! I must say friend I am very impressed by your prodigious amounts of reading! I'm curious to know which argument for Theism you find compelling, every atheist (forgive me if you're not an atheist, but you strike me as one) I've encountered has one argument that they think makes Theism persuasive and even powerfully so, I'm just wondering if there's one that makes you think "yeah that's a pretty good argument for God's existence." Cheers mate!
Dd s I respect your position, I think it's very honest (and honesty can be hard to come by in these discussions sometimes lol). And you're right, we can't know all things about all reality, and that's why the theist would subscribe to divine revelation (because if God (and God, by definition is "the greatest conceivable being") exists then he knows all and can share some of his knowledge with us. Stay hopeful friend, hopeful Agnostics are some of the most awesome people no doubt!
I think you make very important points, and that's why I don't think divine revelation should be used as evidence for God's existence. I think you need to already believe in a sort of "generic God" before you look at the various world religions (which as you correctly said do indeed contradict each other). And in order to come to a belief in a sort of "generic God" I think you would have to examine the various arguments for God's existence. Now unfortunately, you said that you don't think there are any compelling arguments for God's existence. The good news is that your "not thinking there are any compelling arguments for God's existence" is just a psychological state of affairs, which means the arguments could very possibly be valid and true, regardless of whether or not you think they are compelling.
Thank you so much. These talks are shining a light on questions , some of which I have had for many years, and Dr. Lennox explains so well, in words answers I can understand. I am a Christian, but still tried to figure out these puzzles, and now I know there are answers to many of them. I just hadn’t found the right teacher. Again, thank you so much for sharing this information.
Nataly . .Thank you for what you doing. There is no end to space and being. This we will never be able to understand by the limited human mind. Nothing for a million years is nothing. Only by calling on the creator God can we comprehend something in this infinite universe.
I would also HIGHLY recommend "Creation, Believe it or Not" by John MacArthur. The total time is about 15 hours of the most fascinating facts and propositions of science and theology. From the intro to the end of the antediluvian period MacArthur has assembled HUNDREDS of fabulous quotes, facts, and figures that are literally mind boggling ...and true! (book or set of c.d.s)
I am just a lay person, this is my first time hearing Dr Lennox and watching SITC podcast. After listening to part 1 I had to listen to part 2. I am a firm believer in the Lord God the creator of all. I believe that mathematics is one of the top languages of God. Given to mankind to help understand God and his creations. I have a teacher many years ago who had a picture on her desk and in that picture it was of the universe with the dark background and the stars all around and each star was a single or a mark for mathematics and at the bottom of the picture there was a line that said,"the language of GOD!". I believe that GOD has given sciences(all forms) as a means of revealing his Majesty. I'm glad to listen and discover how very intelligent people look at God and atheism are not compatible. That listening to Dr Lenox has given me some insight into an argument that a person could have with an atheist about the creation and who created it.
I love these interviews! I’m so glad I came around them. Eric, you’re really a brilliant interviewer: always find really interesting people to talk with and you can make these arguments not only interesting and highly profound but also funny and pleasant. How about coming to Milan?
John is absolutely on another level intellectually compare to those atheist scientists he exchanged with. That itself is proof that 「Fearing god is the beginning of wisdom」. May our God the creator bless Dr. Lennox immensely and use him to bring more people to faith
John Lennox isn't intellectually superior to those he debates as he is not a biologist he is not a paleontologist he is not a anthropologist he is not a astrophysicist or cosmologist These are facts that he has admitted himself! so how he can be seen to know more about these subjects than those who specialise in their fields is ridiculous! No offence but in years to come the work of Dawkins Krauss and Hawking will be remembered and studied for helping our human understanding whereas Lennox will just be remembered as a Christian apologist who contributed nothing to science!
They might have broken out into a song from The Sound of Music: "Nothing comes from nothing; nothing ever could ; so somewhere in my life or childhood, I must have done something good." Feel free to substitute God for "I" in the verse.
My message to Lennox is that there is information (an organized sequence of material/energy) and there is understanding, which is spiritual, beyond matter and energy. Understanding is what Lennox is talking about but he does not separate it from information. In-formation can only exist if there is an entity, a soul, an intelligence that understands the information.
When doing a talk prof Lennox structures his arguments in such a complicated way. In this conversation his thoughts are made bitesize by way of dialectics.
You know, i was going to try and leave something eloquent and profound like " science has become their god and they worship it while denying the true God....blah blah " but i think its more important to ponder....I bet Dr. Lennox gives great hugs!
John Lennox mentioned the fact that it seems as if any attempt currently to explain away the concept of God descends into foolishness. That is precisely what the Scriptures said would happen, "claiming to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:22). Many of the postmodernist arguments about the nature and understanding of truth, deconstructionism, etc when appropriately listened to are exactly that, foolishness.
William Oarlock The absolute most pathetic fool cares about what other people believe when it isn’t hurting anyone. I would ask, but j already know why you’re so angry about ones belief. God is still knocking. Answer Him, William.
@@brokenfish7 Good answer! HE knocks at the door of our hearts, and it's truly amazing that He wants a relationship with EACH of us! (Or ANY of us for that matter!).
Many folks hate the darkness that the internet has brought into the human family & rightly so in a lot of areas. However it is a blessing to me that the internet brings such lecturers as Lennox , C.S. Lewis & the wonderful minds that I view on Socrates in the City or The Veritus Forum is so much more Light than Darkness.
SITC: A show about "nothing". Thanks for this great material that the world needs to hear. Some men of great intelligence run from God, even past insurmountable evidence. I theorize it a desire for control: if you place mankind at a pinnacle, redefine/negate morality and encase the universe in a physical-only realm, then you remove concerns there is a creator out there whom your soul is subject. We yet duplicate a version of the material world using computers: an application akin to the physical universe (which interestingly does not take up any literal space), and an OS and program language akin to the fact math, science and the 4 forces are as they are. Both require a programmer to write code; ours is through keyboards, God's is through His word commanding the very physical nothingness in order to "code" this most artistically designed existence.
Well clever this man. Nice explanations regarding the worldview Dawkins and hawking take - basically they come to faulty conclusions about god due to a faulty worldview. The kettle boiling story illustrates this philosophy so simply. Nice
@@darrellwilliams7604 He's a great talker, but alas seriously delusional. He tries to use science as proof of god but his arguments are oh so wrong. We all want to believe in something, even the supernatural but alas there's no evidence for it. If you want to believe, absolutely fine, but please don't attempt to say it's fact, anymore than fairies are fact, when it contradicts our science.
@@bobwilkinson2008 If its not really true it should not bother you so much,But it is,Your being condemn by your own conscious and words, Repent and invite Jesus in your heart while you have the time to do it,because the other side will convince you,and all you left with is torment and regret for eternity,Its your choice.
@@darrellwilliams7604 Hi. It doesn't bother me at all what people believe, whether it's one or more of the 1000s of gods that man has invented or fairies or whatever. That is until they start aggressively thrusting it upon me. The average individual doesn't do that and I wouldn't 'accuse' you of that either but when religious leaders advocate for example, war, slavery or genital mutilation "in god's name", that's when it crosses the line for me. Have a nice day.
One can prove the truth of Scripture. Dr. Lennox and Eric and everyone else watching need to watch Chuck Missler's "Hidden Treasures of the Bible" video on RU-vid. And then proceed to watch all his other material! Please.
I thought of this while listening to Dr Lennox: so consciousness is a transcendent mystery to us. It is somehow immaterial and spiritual. It is also why we don't have to dance to the material music of our genes....we can defy the material with the moral. My question is: Could sufficiently complex artificial intelligence in man made machines ever become conscious? Especially in the most advanced AI, programmed to learn? Could AI prove the plausibility, at least, of the reductionist claim that our minds could be no more than the physical/biochemical properties of our brains?
Hindu temples allow to understand the difference and richness of temple worship methods adapted for vishnu and shivan temples which clarify most of the understanding worship i just relate to science for the understanding other than nothing to say
Creation is the answer meaning ie creation is omnipresent creation always was always will be.. there is nothing outside of creation and creation is in all things.. creation is eternal.. creation needs no creator
The differential equation for a mechanical spring- mass-damper system is the same as the one for a electrical RLC circuit. Uncanny, strange? Why does math describe the natural world so well? Fibonacci Series? Seems very transcendent!
I love this. But there is a question. 'Who created God' is a stupid question, I agree. But my question is: why does God exist? Why IS God? Does God even know why He is there, why he has always been there? We are here for His glory. But why was He around before the beginning of all times? He might as well just not exist... right?
You still assume that GOD is limited beings, that's not what GOD of the Bible Im not even going to write every scripture here, but HE is the alpha and the omega. If we can fit GOD into our 2kg brains then HE is not GOD.
