John Longstreth having a drum talk in a World War II bunker!!! John is one of the world's most renown Extreme Metal drummers and while on tour with ORIGIN he talked about how playing these enormous speeds feels like and what the body needs to perform these struggles on the road. He also reacts to musical ignorance and hatred on the internet, which accompanies his versatile styles he mastered over the years such as foot double strokes. It was really great to have John in my rehearsal space :-)

I respect him just for what he said towards the end about music being art and no rules... so many people criticize others on their playing styles when it isn't warranted. I chalk it up to jealousy based on the fact that someone else was able to reach a pinnacle that they themselves couldn't reach. I commend john for just saying it out loud
@CarcPazu

I love John's playing. What I love the most about his playing is how the tackles hi-hat hits on the vocal's accents and things like that. I feel he's really playing the song while being totally aware of what the others are doing. He uses cymbales to match a lot of details. Listen to his playing and pay attention to this, he's amazing for that. It's all in the details with him.

That was the initial thing that drew me into his playing way back when I heard Disease Called Man. Some might argue his playing was much more meat and potatoes then, but that characteristic has always been present in his playing.

I always wondered what music my drum teacher hears, till one day on which he had to pick up before our lesson, because my parents weren`t there to bring me. I was really into Slayer and thought this would be the heaviest shit around. As I sat down in the car this really technical and fast music played and I was shocked, but in the same moment totally blewn away. It was Entity by Origin and thats the story how my Drum Teacher got me into Technical Death Metal. Since that day John Longstreth was one of my drum heros and he seems like a really cool dude personally. :D
@slayer8273

Been drumming since I was 12, I'm 30 now, but I cant thank him enough. Legit taught me the with his videos how to properly do heel toe just a few years ago. I struggled with my technique to increase my BPM over 210 and be clean. I did what he did.. I started all over and worked strictly on finding a new way to learn heel toe. Not only can I play around 230-240BPM clean af. But.. it's just alot easier. There's no effort anymore. It's not about the pedals. It's literally about the small details in your technique and when you can simply focus on the technique itself and not worry about wanting to play along with a metronome, my life changed behind the kit.

Besides his overwhelming drum work - around age 20 I bought Origin's self titled (and still their best) album - I remember John's notes in the booklet of the S/T album. These hit me as much as his great drumming. Luckily I finally saw and heard home live once - with Hate Eternal - at Cacaofabriek in Helmond, the Netherlands, for approx 3 years ago. What a fantastic video, incredibly well done. I loved his comment about losing himself in the music, because the only time I lose myself in the pit is when I see Origin and Meshuggah. Their music is so goddam cathartic to me. It's like meditative rage and nothing quite feels like it. I hope drummers can learn from this and learn to make their own music that evokes such a response.
