Agreed all I see online with Petrucci is all class no attitude and just fun to listen too the guy could be your cool School teacher he does not have that Dbag Metal tough guy persona.
I find acoustic guitar so much easier to play tastefully than any electric guitar. I started playing on acoustic and have mostly played acoustic over the years. It's something I'll have to work on over time, the electric is amazing for access to highest frets, legato, sweeps and so forth.
Most people have such a bad sense of timing, it's really peculiar. Maybe we're all just biased because 4/4 is so easy, but goddamn; get it together, humanity xD
Watching prog fans try to headbang during a concert is hilarious. Some people have no sense of tempo at all, it's hard to listen or see that. Any prog artist I like, I've listened to their songs enough to analyze any change up. You would think that every prog fan would do the same, considering how difficult prog is to play. Don't meet anyone that loves prog but doesn't play any instruments.
That formula didn't work after Portnoy gone.. No questions about that Petrucci is my most favourite guitarist.. But DT as a band is shit now.. Portnoy was the guy whose playing could cover over all the instruments..

why do people bombard like this? he comes out and immediately "over here john!", "I love dream theater john, thank youuu" "hey john, let's have a meaningful conversation!" applause is awesome...every musician loves it...but let the guy catch his breath...have some pride for fucksake
The problem is that people feel like they're competing for his attention, and this is when people get weird/inconsiderate. In small settings, it's not hard to get your questions answered, but realistically not everyone there will get attention from him so they get desperate. Hence why they don't do "hang out" meet and greets anymore like many other "less popular" bands do.
I think it is very cool how humble as a big name, John Petrucci is among his fans and such. He is patient, not condescending, takes everyone serious, shares his knowledge and facilitates himself well. Lately I have become a bigger fan every-time I have come across this guy. Been thinking about getting the Music Man Majesty Artisan Guitar : ) Cheers !!

u're right i've never seen any musician like him.he just don't have any pride for who he is,very polite n humble.he doesn't even use the rough words such as 'fucking', 'shit', 'hell' cause he is man of god...
his style? He and Jordan Rudess (the keyboardist for DT) did a one night only concert called "A night with Jordan Rudess and John Petrucci" where they played instrumentals. I think that between LTE, DT and this album its awfully hard to find a "style" he doesn't cover....
Is it negative to be a fanboy who admire their favourite guitar player???that's the reason they show up to support Petrucci....I'm proud to be a fanboy myself in things / hobbies I like for instance; Star Wars, Heavy metal music, Warhammer and loads of stuff, that I enjoy to do in my spare time ;) and nerd it!
He reminds me of someone’s cool older brother. Nice dude. One of the sickest guitar players out there. Dream theater is hit and miss for me but I seriously respect petrucci. The guy has put the work in and is at that level where everything seems easy.

Great video quality! I wish whoever was filming was able to get a board feed for the audio. He’s one of the cleanest players out there. The audio definitely doesn’t do it justice the way I’m sure it sounded being there. Still very appreciative for the post. 🤘🏼
+JgHaverty To enter this clinic you should at least know how to clap 4/4 time correctly. All of the audience failed, so they gave up on the requirements.

Too many players think sweeping is the be all and end all. It isn't! It can be a very 'boxed in' technique.Vibrato is 'the' most important technique and it doesn't matter how fast or slow you can play. If your vibrato ain't down you ain't shit!
I didnt say they werent important I said vibrato is the most important. No matter what techniques you have ( or havent) in your arsenal vibrato is the one that separates the men from the gods. This is so taken for granted these days and the reason a lot of modern shredders sound like robots (Pettrucci obviously does not fall into this category). Too many people focus on the advanced techniques. All the 80's shredders had killer vibrato (yngwie, gilbert, howe, lynch)
Ian Guest I agree with you. I know this great shredder, but his vibrato just sounds amateurish, which makes his entire playing sounds shitty. If someone plays a easy solo, but with solid vibrato it will still sound amazing. It's always the same too haha, they move their entire hand instead of this fluid motion
went to a clinic of his one time at a GC years ago, and our guitarist raises his hand to ask a question and John goes "yea go ahead" and my guitarist asks jokingly, "is it true than when you play a million notes per second people die?" everyone starts laughing right? Petrucci without skipping a beat laughs and responds "I don't know, no ones ever lived to tell about it" and we all started cracking up hahahahahah
The majesty really grew on me, so glad I haven't spent my savings on ibanez. I've actually saved enough to get this but I'm torn between my teenage dream guitar. Custom shop BC Rich warlock 7.
