So,you rebuilt it. Did you see some abnormal wear on specific locations ? They eat oil,have gunky oil galleries,crappy ring clearances according to what you wrote. What is the cause of those clues ?
You make it look so easy. I have a 95 civic that I love and I want to rebuild it so badly but I’ve never done anything that big. I got the car with 150k on it and put 300k more on it. Former newspaper courier. Wont start, noise when shifting, master cylinder leak, rear suspension has no spring it it’s step, trunk won’t latch, glued a penny to brake pedal to engage the brake lights, radio gone, interior ehh, exterior blotchy,
Yes, If you get ahold of one with less than about 80k miles you can take it apart and rebuild it. The problem is that most of them get driven until they grenade and at that point you have a hole in the block, a hole in the oil pan, destroyed pistons, destroyed crank... try pricing some of that stuff out.
12 degrees before TDC is book, but advance it as far as you can until it starts pinging then back it off a hair. Best way to time one if these is a test drive with a 12mm wrench in your pocket.
Really nice job, man. Do you have an opinion on the GM motors they put in some of the later 1st gen troopers? Looking at getting a '91 with one of those engines.

When you are installing the oil pan on the 2.6 we don't see the giant gasket that came with our rebuild kit. Ours came with the small half moon gaskets that seat in the pan on each end and a full pan gasket with additional larger half moons that are permanently part of the larger gasket. We are assuming that the large ones are supposed to somehow go over the smaller ones and seal but this is proving to be near to impossible.Do you use both gaskets or the small ones and silicon? Any help will be appreciated.
Any advice be appreciated . I have a 1995 Isuzu rodeo 2.6l. code 35 is present. Indicating map sendor hi bolts. However the Haynes Manuel stated ignition module. Any leads would greatly appreciated. It runs great just stalls then after setting runs fine...
I have isuzu pick up 2.3 4ZD1 engine , when is cold has a white smoke from the exhaust and burn oil ,but when the engine is hot there is no smoke ,if i leave it 4-5 hours yet again when i start the engine there is a lot of white smoke for 5 min but after that is stops ,if i leave it for 10-20 min with out driving everything is ok,but if i leave it with out use it 3-4 hours there is a smoke when i start it and then after 5 min driving is stops. do you think is the valves stems seals ? kind regards
awesome video! I might be rebuilding a 4zd1 soon. Never rebuilt an engine before but looks pretty straight forward. What are the red stripes at 1:00 and 3:15 for? I assume it's for checking clearances or something but what's the purpose if you already have the torque specs?

Isn't this a waste of time? The 4cyl are known for cracking heads and/or blowing head gaskets. Have you ever done the Vortec V6 swap I've heard of some people doing?
+Michael McCuen Have you checked the local parts stores?? sometimes they have reconditioned cranks available, usually comes with bearings. i can sell you a used one...

Hi! nice job. Do you put oil on the threads and under the heads of your Mains, Big-ends and cylinder head bolts before fitting and torqueing down? Cheers, Luke
Not really. Everything comes back with a light oil on it from the machine shop to prevent oxidization, I just don't wipe it all dry. I don't squirt oil on anything if that's what you mean.
Yeah I didn't think it looked like there was much oil on them. I'm an engine machinist/reconditioner by trade. Have a bit of a read around on the topic if it fancies you. It was drummed into me ad-nauseum to lubricate threads and heads of every torqued bolt to optimise down pressure and avoid galling. You do very clean work. You should be proud. All the best. Luke.
