I'm not sure I would give him the benefit of the doubt. The way he criticizes his own players and media publicly....you really think he's a decent human being? It's easy to say what the Blackhawk coaches and management should have done. It's a different story when you're in that position. If you're going to give respect and props, give it to Paul Vincent, the skills coach.... who reported the assault to the proper people and further requested the team fire Aldridge and immediately report the incident to the sex crimes unit of the Chicago police

The sad part is that the Hawks could have done both things - Addressed the Beach complaint and prepared the team for the playoffs. The staff and players are pros; they should have been able to walk and chew gum at the same time. The big takeaway from this is that they didn't give a fuck for a minor leaguer. Good on Torts for saying what he did. It needed only ONE person to say "No, we can't ignore this. Let's look at it while we prepare the team".

there was one person. That was Paul Vincent, the Skills Coach. The man takes fines from the NHL to speak his mind and isn't afraid to tear into anyone. After the Play-in he tore reporters apart for what they said about Keefe. I was actually surprised the NHL didn't fine him haha. "I just can't get over people ripping Sheldon Keefe and his staff, as far as the job he's done with that Maple Leafs team. They have done a terrific job with that team. This was after the series and all that ... some of the things I read, some of the things I watched last night ... half the pundits in this city think they know about the game, but they really don't. It just pisses me off for a fellow coach in this league, and I know it's Toronto, a great city, great hockey town, love being here. But some of the things that he's criticized for are beyond belief, and it just shows that people have no clue what's going on in this game. I just want to support him. I'm glad we won, but I want to support him because I think him and his staff have done a terrific job with that hockey club. Thank you."

as a young rangers fan, myself and my mom were driving through a neighborhood near my house and we spotted what we thought was John Tortorella walking his dogs. upon getting closer i instantly recognized him and pleaded with my mom to drive back to my house to get my rangers hat. we drove back to where we saw him and i approached him and asked if he was John Tortorella, he smiled and replied with “yes i am” and i asked him to sign my hat and he was so polite and kind to the both of us. this is a great man with a kind heart and far too many people misunderstand his passion for hate and anger. i will always remember that moment and cherish the kind interaction i had with him when he didnt have to do anything for me. i have since always wished the best for him and its so great to see other people seeing the torts away from the rink.

Even in the Hawks statement, they're still talking about pursuing championships. Like, just take that out of the statement. It doesn't need to be said. The group showed in 2010 that a championship was more important than sexual assault. And then to let Brad go to a high school and hurt someone there? People hate Torts because he speaks his mind and doesn't sugarcoat anything, I can speak from personal experience that this does not make you the most popular guy in the room, but don't mistake this for lack of empathy or sociopathy. He's a decent human being, and there aren't enough of them these days.

The higher ups in the Blackhawks organization knew about this and did nothing. They should be charged with failing to report a crime at the least.

Chevy of the Jets will likely be resigning tomorrow as well after meeting with Bettman. These 7 dwarfs who did nothing will be out of hockey forever because their decision to do nothing about the sexual assault, simply sweeping Kyle under the rug have tarnished the whole professional game!

Torts has never been PR-friendly or PC. What you see with him is what you get. He owns his mistakes and learns from them, he calls it like he sees it, and you may not like what he says or how he says it, but it makes you think. And yes, he deeply cares, even in his rants. Keep the faith, Coach!

Hawks organization will be forever tarnished. What a disgrace to sport. The horror of this can happen any level and that’s the scariest thing for a parent to endure. You just don’t know who you can trust these days

Torts may be harshly criticized and even hated for his coaching but he sure has a heart as a human being and know what is right and what is wrong towards humanity. I could see him Work in law . I see him as a judge .

I’m curious to know how much his team mates knew? If they truly cared, why didn’t they do something when it first happened? Why is EVERYONE talking about it now? Beach didn’t deserve what happened to him, neither the assault or the abandonment by the the management, coaching and players. Had this been handled RIGHT away (or even at the end of the Playoffs) properly this wouldn’t be happening now. ken cheveldayoff is getting off easy. He was there and bares responsibility for the lack of action.

Blackhawks inaction lead directly to a 16 year old getting assaulted years later. Does anyone think Alderich would have gotten a job around high school kids if the Blackhawks did what they should have been years earlier? I was a Blackhawks fan for 30 years, but once this story initially came out a few months ago, there is no way i can cheer or support an organization that took a chance to win a Stanley Cup over stopping a sexual predator.

They didn’t do anything because they didn’t care and still don’t. Bettman and the lot lack basic human decency. This is not a TV show. The focus then, as it should be now, should be on listening and doing no further harm to a survivor who’s been fighting for his life for the last 11 years. Their arrogant and downright evil behaviour is on the very same level as the predator who they let walk away and do further harm.

Never liked Bettman. All he sees are dollar signs (not diversity, race, gender and fluidity, age and activism, etc… these are all threats to the bottom dollar, er, line). He is getting rid of all the best aspects of the game and ushering in an all for profit mentality. Disgusting and now here we are.
