I don’t think John is dead due to the location of the bullets. Caine shot John in the same spots as the doctor told John to shoot him at the start of the third film
If you didn’t catch it in the movie, there was a bit of dialogue before or in the church where John talks to Caine and implies there’s a way they can help each other. John and Caine colluded to rig the duel - and Winston was probably the one who figured out the loophole. The Marchese tried to make the duel a binary outcome by using Caine’s daughter as leverage to force Caine to duel John. Caine, John, and Winston realized they could all get what they wanted by working together because they all hated the high table. Winston likely came up with the plan where John would be in a position to kill the Marchese. Neither Caine nor John would go for lethal shots, and John wouldn’t shoot on the third round to lure the Marchese in for the coup de grace. Remember that Caine demanded that the Marchese free him and his daughter before he handed his pistol over, and the Harbinger witnessed the Marchese agree. Only once Caine got the guarantee he wanted, he gave his pistol to the Marchese. Winston then distracted the Marchese by mocking him, and John shot him with his third bullet to win. Yes, Caine’s bullets were all in non-lethal areas. And if it wasn’t clear that they were colluding, Caine helped John get to the top of the stairs so that the plan could be put in motion. I think Winston masterminded this whole scheme - he’s a chess player. My theory is that John is alive for any potential 5th movie, and the grave was put up as cover to make people think that he died, so he could leave the underworld.
I love how the underworld becomes more extravagant and over the top. I wish they had just SOME consequences for the High Table causing such chaos and terror in the public with the world governments being fed up with them.
@@zagreus1249 I always thought to myself that as long as the World Government's power and money isn't interrupted or disturbed, they're happy to turn a blind eye towards them and maybe even Government Agencies may turn to them for help.
@@filmcomicsexplained Perhaps that would be a good segway to end the story of John Wick and continuing the Akira story. John Wick in hiding, Mr. Nobody hired to find him/proof of his death. Secret Government alphabet agencies utilizing Wick to disband, permanently, the High Table once and for all. A final conclusion for Wick and we could see what happens between Caine and Akira. John, truly at peace, with no High Table to potentially seek retribution.
This series is amazing because each movie literally picks up where the last leaves off. If you have a John Wick marathon it'll be like watching one long continuous movie
I couldn,t stop watching once I found it on youtube. I saw the first one out of curiosity then kept going till the end of three. I knew he wasn,t dead. Can,t wait till I can,t see #-4. I,m bedbound so I can,t get out. Gotta wait till it comes on Tubi or RU-vid, one of the two. 👍
As disappointed/broken-hearted as I am that it's over, I am also like "Damn, Keanu has given his all to the full-on films (and those before) and has suffered numerous injuries for it. He's 58 now and I doubt anyone would blame him if he wanted to end it on a high and do more sedate things! :) Then again, he might say "fuck it!" and want to carry on, either way, it's an honour to watch him perform!
"But on Sunday, Lionsgate’s Drake told The Hollywood Reporter that a John Wick 5 is no longer out of the question. “There’s a will and there’s an openness. And you could certainly interpret that ending in different ways,” said Drake. “We’re all going to take a tiny rest here and then scratch at ideas about whether there’s a credible way to get into five. But there’s no guarantee.” There's a chance for a 5th but of course that will definitely be the final since Keanu Reeves isn't getting any younger. Plus, even if they wan to make a new one they will have to have a great story to bring him back. there are some questions left unanswered so who knows.
I honestly want it to end here, I'd rather it end on a high then a lackluster 5th film. The ending felt like a satisfying end to John's arc as he got to die a free man and not a man trapped by the table.
Personally, I'd like to see him in a supporting role in a sequel. Feels like John and Keanu alike earned some peace. But to have him as a mentor to a new protagonist? Imagine the look on everyone's faces when they learn not only is John Wick alive, he's trained the person coming for them.
Yeaa this was absolutely a great movie 🎬 I enjoyed it. I didn't like him dead at the end. That hurt my feelings 😪 but he gave it every thing he had. 💥💥💥💥💨💨
Most scenes had me half way out of my seat wanting to leave. Stunt men waiting their turn to be hit, holding a gun but not shooting until Keanu was facing them and THEN running up to him with a gun so he could take it off them etc etc. My suspension of disbelief was put on suspension VERY early in the film. Near the end of the film i was that angry i was almost screaming at the screen "Just shoot him in the fucking head!".
Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski discussed how the story borrows elements from Dante's Inferno. I think each stage of the story has some decent representation. Well at least it was obvious what purgatory was.
This is cool, I might have to compare the two and see if I can make a video on it. Winston would I guess be Virgil, Keanu is Dante, and Helen is Beatrice. His trials throughout the films are him going through each stage. Ending with Hell, which would explain the insanity of the Paris sequence!
The reference/tribute to The Warriors was aweseome. Caine's blue rose bouquet at the end was really poetic too. If you don't know, the blue rose symbolizes something physically unobtainable or out of reach. Caine almost saw/spoke to his daughter, but then we see Akira with the knife while he's carrying the blue roses meaning his daughter was always metaphorically/physically out of reach.
that's a good point I didn't notice that, tbh I hope we get another film but if we don't in my head Caine dies that was the original filmed scene but in end they cut it in case they wanted to do an Akira spinoff who they viewed as the next John Wick so just for now unless otherwise I think he defo dies
it is even foreshadowed before. caine provokes akira after her father died, after she leaves he holds his mouth, the gesture implies "i shouldn't have said that, i'll regret it later"
@@oizson98 That seemed more like the regret of killing a friend, not fearing Akira's revenge. I'm mainly talking about what the blue rose bouquet symbolizes.
DUDE, this movie was frickin awesome! 169 minutes! It's epic AF! I went to the bathroom twice because I didn't want to miss all the action. The movie had several homages to other epic action adventure films: The Bowery King blowing out the match and cutting to the desert was inspired by Lawrence Of Arabia. The assassin's hearing the song Nowhere To Run on the radio when they go after John Wick was from The Warriors. The dueling pistols was inspired by the climax to The Good The Bad And The Ugly. However, this is not the end for John Wick as Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves have confirmed that they will be back for a fifth and final chapter in the franchise. Now, John Wick can get all the rest he needs.
My theory is Charlie stops by to pick up John and takes him away to recover, while the grave has an empty casket. So many characters in this franchise deserve there own movie.
Great breakdown! I love the John Wick franchise. It's amazing and much deeper than people give it credit for. It has heart, emotion, honor, friendship, code, mythology etc. The lore and world building is incredible. Great characters. And these movies were filmed brilliantly. No shaky cam, no quick cuts, close ups etc. You can actually see all the action and everything that is going on. Keanu and all the actors doing their own action, fight scenes, driving etc makes these movies even better!
their are many rules in dueling one of my favorite is once a shot has been fired a man has unlimited time to fire their shot if they survive. Since john not only didn't fire his third and fire shot but also survive it he was able to kill the marquis point blank and no rule breaking, though they make it seem like john just trick him on coming closer if the marquis would of tried to shot him in the end he would of break the rules of dueling regardless of john living or dying also, people pay a high price for their hubris in this case death.
I love how everything represents death here the number 4 the black horse among the 4 horsemen the dead mans hand and I love how John died between the stairs which reflects on the question that whether did he went to heaven or hell? the answer which remains a mystery. Reminds me of Light yagami wherein he died at the middle of the stairs, which is a consequence of every death note user wherein they can neither go to heaven or hell.
Yeah no meaning in John Wick's dog getting a close up for no reason at his grave. He's dead because 3 gunshot wounds from a blind man reliant on the sound that John makes to aim. Meaning John was in full control of where he got shot. Yeah, they were just showing us their shoes scrape across pebbles for fun. Like everything in this movie is a clue to a deeper meaning. In the end, Caine was the one clinging to the dead, himself and his old life. It's gone, it's been gone, and it's never coming back. John actually gets to go free after he himself kills John Wick and fully gives up that life. Anything else would be betraying his oath to live on to honor his dead wife. People just refuse to pay attention and consume the obvious.
@@CodeguruX woah nice analysis but chill a little, not everyone will have seen it like that because it was going pretty fast! It’s understandable if many think he’s gone, it was made out to seem that way at face value!
Something off to the left ABSOLUTELY gets the Dog’s attention. If you remember at the end of 3, the dog sensed Wick fell and was being taken to the Bowery king, and ran out of the continental, right to Wick in the shopping cart. I believe that, the “who knows” as to where he is, and the King’s laugh after realizing it’s a fake, points to him alive. Also, Lionsgate isn’t going to let them get away with not making a part 5.
This really has some of the best action set pieces in the franchise. Keanu & Donnie are absolutely astounding as well as Hiroyuki in his brief screen-time; massive props to the stunt performers who have to do the even tougher moments. And Chad Stehelski continues to be a grand action director; little wonder he’s been Keanu’s friend for almost 25 years. And RIP to the great Lance Reddick
Really loved the action scenes AND the twists & turns in the plot. Ending where the Marquis was tricked into picking up pistol 4 Coup de Grace & shot POINT BLANK by JW; even from JW's left hand
Loved this series of movies. And as much as I'd watch John Wick 10, I think John passing away on his terms (sort of since he was pushed back into everything, but playing out the hand your dealt) is a way that works. If he's found alive I hope it's a quiet life of peace to finish days. I had always wondered if it was going to end as John becoming the new Elder. Since they couldn't beat him they'd offer him the top spot as a token. But I don't think he'd have accepted. I can only imagine a high table and vast underworld being ruled by John Wick.
I absolutely love this series. I can't think of another series that compares to this in terms of successive storytelling and creativity. I really hope we get more. I watched it 3 times over the weekend and took my daughter the third time. Our showing was at midnight and she was glued to the screen the whole time, hard for a kid with such a long movie, but John Wick commands attention! I still have the visual of the bad guy with the arrow in his knee, pinning him up, after being shot in the head by John burned into my eyes. Such a badass moment, dude was just hanging out. :)
Excellent job! I really like how you put the 4th film in context. By briefly reviewing John Wick's journey through the 1st three films. I don't know how?! But they went even bigger & bolder in the 4th entry of the franchise. John Wick is 1 of the rare movie franchises. That maintains a high standard through all of the sequels. The world they have created is so rich & compelling. I sincerely hope this isn't the last time we see Keanu Reeves revise this character. Just leaves you wanting more.
Excellent recap! I discovered aspects previously unrecognized by me. Thank you for such an indepth look. I haven't seen Ch. 4 yet, but will shortly. Thanks again! Great job!
I still remember seeing the first John Wick, it could have been another passable summer action flick. But now we got a solid franchise that's managed to pull out 4 solid films. Also on the point of the franchise honouring the old Martial arts and preserving action, you missed to mention how it also evolved how Hollywood handle guns, no more infinite ammo as John runs out of ammo several times and we get to see how technically satisfying tactical reloads are as well. It's almost a martial art in itself. We get hollywood finally paying attention to how guns should be handle from firing stances, forms, how platforms like rifles and shotguns are reloaded. Down to pistols.
There was a theory put forth by some that John Wick unofficially takes place in the Matrix universe and that John Wick is actually Neo who was placed back in the Matrix and since he is "the one", he is capable of extraordinary feats. While this is just a theory, there are plenty of supporting details. For example, both universes feature allies that are named after Greek mythology, which each have very specific connotations. In the Matrix, Neo is befriended by "Morpheus", which according to Greek mythology is the "god of dreams." In John Wick, he is befriended by "Charon", who according to Greek mythology is the gatekeeper of the underworld. Kind of makes you think. There are other supporting similarities, but you can find videos on youtube that go over them all. While this is most likely just coincidences, its very intriguing.
absolutely love this universe. i'm usually not really a fan of action movies, but i've been hooked on this franchise since John wick 1. i'm excited that there are some spin offs in the works and potentially a 5th movie.
If the Academy Awards don't have the sense to create a category that awards stunt work/choreography, then something is wrong. The cinematography and action in this movie is on another level.
This was so well explained. I watched it as an action flick but explained it so deep that I have to rewatched this series with new eyes. Well done! Subbed!
Personally I would like a prequal showing John's impossible mission to get out. Have John, Koji and Kaine all teaming up to help John get out of the life, and John needing to go to Santino for help.
Fantastic Man !!! This was dynamite!!! Thank you so much!!! Yes this movie was just incredible and I agree it’s just insane how it’s so ridiculous but they pull it off. They really do. Even the continuous rolling down the steps was fun and palatable as it served the purpose of having to restart from a level like a video game. Thank you so much for clearing up why he owed a blood oath to Santino. I didn’t know and was forever frustrated with the loose end. No more loose ends thanks to you and this video. My son hasn’t seen this one so I’m going tonight to see it for a 2nd time.
Gotta appreciate Reeves weapons handling skills, for a civilian, he is as efficient, if not more so than elite forces operators. The various sidearms and rifles he uses in all 4 movies is staggering, not to mention nunchucks, knives, pencils, a book and a playing card 😂
Hi Mr Niyat, how’s everything man? Brilliant video by the way. I love movies like these. The John Wick series. Yes, absolutely R.I.P to Mr Lance Reddick. Gone too soon. How do you think the next 2 Mission Impossible films will fair against John Wick Chapter 4?👍🏾
Really enjoyed the ending of this series with John Wick 4. Such a great end for John and beyond glad the Marquee got his dome rocked! I just wish he would’ve suffered a bit more.
