John Williams is a force of nature. He has The Stuff. He's so tremendously good. Spielberg and Lucas are so lucky to have had his magic. What an artist.
Well, considering how he wrote space operas, I'd say he is more akin to the Richard Wagner of our age. But Strauss ain't bad, he did give us Eulenspiegel and Zarathustra in music. edit: I actually get what you're saying, coming back and listening to this, the first thing that comes to my mind is TONE POEM. This is John Williams' version of a modern tone poem, the music of E.T.
Indeed the last 3 bars are an almost exact echo of the beginning of Also Sprach Zarathrusta. But yeah, when I grow up (hah, already over 40!) I wanna be John Williams...
Although ET is just one movie it is Johnny Williams best and most evocotive score as a whole. The Star Wars , Supermans, Indiana Jones , Minority Report etc were also amazing but the way the Et main and secondary theme evolve is so extrordianary. I cant think of any other theme that starts so simply and then evolves into symphonic greatness aside from a Handful of Baroch , CLASSICAL AND ROMANTIC PEICES .
S.Rico:I don't quite understand what you mean that "only a handful of Baroque Classical and Romantic pieces" evolve this way. To say Beethoven's music lacks melody is ridiculous, but his standard method was to take a short motif and develop the heck out of it. The most obvious example is the four note motif that starts his 5th Symphony
"I cant think of any other theme that starts so simply and then evolves into symphonic greatness..." Harry Potter, Jaws, Superman... not to mention Saving Private Ryan, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind... I think that should say enough. But I agree that this may well be Johnny (I'll go with Johnny) Williams' best and most evocative score, it's actually the comment I was going to write until I stopped to read yours. P.S. I would just point out that it's Baroque, not Baroch, unless you are talking about Spinoza, but even that's a bit different.
My best friend played horn for the Pops and BSO for 20+ years, so I was surrounded by this music first hand all my adult life. I surely drew the aces on that.
Genuinely genius masterpiece and the best composer born 1932-whenever eternity comes for you buddy your legacy legendary timeless music itself is great this concert from Japan tour is going to be 30+ years counting next year and the future present coming years to come until eternity comes for yourself and ourselves thanks buddy peace.
Music can change the way we see the world. Like Elliot, may we welcome the alien, the stranger, and not fear them. Look for what we have in common. Do not demonize the stranger. Look at others through the eyes of a child. Judge not, lest ye be judged. Peace.

@@wizdofaus Well, you got John Williams here(while still in his prime) conducting his own music with his own orchestra, it's hard to get better than that.
I love E.T. I seen this movie three or four times when it was in the theater I was just 10 years old it was the first movie I ever seen and I still love it to this day and I own it on dvd and digital in my vudu account. My favorite scene in the movie is when E.T and Elliot are on the bicycle flying past the moon also when Elliot and his brother and friends are also flying in the air on their bicycles so cool I wish I could fly like that I know it’s just a movie but it would be very cool.
Thanks I love it the same way whenever the guys Elliott and Michael and friends taking ET to his spherical sphere spaceship and just 3 years back Actor-Henry Thomas and his son wife and daughter in a 2019 (37 years ahead later from the movie, 1982,2002,2012, and this year 2022) Xfinity commercial legendary tragic scene when ET leave again back to space how tragic and true remember of life itself is way too long or short remember respect whatever happens and yourself thanks buddy peace and blessings to you peace.
Incredible. This sounds much better than the actual studio recordings. God...you can hear the orchestra struggling to get the music out and hear the frustration in the studio recordings on the official soundtrack. Don't be mislead: the incidental music of John Williams is notoriously hard to perform, even for seasoned professionals, especially when you have to cut and clip and edit stuff and work on timings. This recording, on the other hand, is clean, clear, has wonderful depth, gorgeous timbre, and is so warm. Honestly, I think some of the best music and recordings to come out of the USA are from John Williams and the Boston Pops. Maestro Williams seems the most at home and comfortable with the Boston Pops, and I can't say I blame him because they are an exception orchestra.
True and you’re always right that us humanity can’t do anything everything right perfectly just always keep practicing for the just right perfection in perfect shape for us I guess it’s uneasy so hopefully we’ll be better hopefully buddy thanks peace and blessings to you buddy peace.
Magnífico esos cellos y violines, algo en tus corazón y en tu alma va creciendo y descubriendo hasta llegar a un clímax que te hace pasar por varias emociones con forme avanza la obra..
Adjusted for inflation ET would take about 3.5 billion in 2019. And that was when the former communist countries, never got Hollywood films. Dwarfs Endgame and Avatar.
