Notice how Joan would just place the animal on Johnny's desk or lap and he would just wing it from there? People don't know he was a big animal lover and donated a lot to the San Diego Zoo for their animal rescue programs and Joan's Project Animals.
Johnny's one of the few people who can consistently make me laugh so hard I almost pass out. God, I miss entertainment like this. Johnny, Ed, Doc... you all are missed right now.
I remember the night this originally aired. Then for some reason, all these years later, I thought about it and wondered, could this clip be on RU-vid? Sure enough it was! What a funny bit !!
bakerXderek Johnny was ultra talented!! Could dance sing play drums guitar. Check out the Jack Benny Show episode where he had Carson on!! Hysterical!! You'll get to see just how talented he truly was. Oh yeh,, he also dabbled in slight of hand card tricks.
What a classic! 😂. When he covered her up for modesty 😂. I remember as a kid always liking this lady. She was my hero. And she was always so calm and kind
During the 70s and 80s just like today the world was in never ending turmoil. Untill 11:29. At 11:30 p.m. the problems stopped cold right there no matter how bad. Johnny put the nation to sleep every night. You fell asleep watching his show.
After Johnny passed away Rich Little talked about all the celebrities being out in Hollywood but at 11:00pm they would all disperse and go home to watch Carson. God I miss those days.
There was no one like Carson. He made you feel like you were visiting at home in his living room. A once in a lifetime individual who will never be matched.
I sure miss him never been anyone else that could measure up when he stopped he was my comfort after a long day take a shower get in bed and turn him on 😉
my fav johnny w animals shows was the one he bent down to a pen w 2 young cheetahs in it one snarled and lunged at him he ran over to Ed and jumped in his arms! lol
I remember watching this the first night that Carson brought Joan Embrey and the bush dog on the shows broadcast. It was pretty funny and certainly cute. I remember laughing very hard at the bush dog song. I laughed very, very hard watching Carson sing the bush dog song. I must've high to find it as funny as I did. After all it was 1975.
There will NEVER be another Johnny Carson but only attempts by copycats who will continue to fall way short of the brilliancy of this comedic and talented man. RIP Johnny and thanks for the memories!
I had thought I had heard of all the animals species there is in the world. A bush dog is one animal I had never heard of before. But it is such a really cute animal. That I wish I could have one as a pet. Even though they are wild animals. Johnny looks so cute holding that bush dog.
I have this on Carson's Comedy Classics that a collector put together for me, but it's a bit longer. At one point, Johnny stops rubbing her belly, and she squeaks as if to say, "Did I say you could stop?" So funny and cute! When I saw that, I thought, "I want one!", like probably a few other people. Sometimes when the animal experts go on the show, they warn people that they are still wild animals, no matter how cute they are. They even warn people about having pet skunks! Some people have pet hyenas.
Carson’s Tonight Show was Variety, which by 11:30 weekdays most people needed some of. His topics and format entertained. It didn’t make your hair hurt watching and it wasn’t the same night after night after night. Nobody was selling you ideology. Toothpaste and cars maybe. But TV will never pull 4-6 million nightly with what is presently offered.
Jay Leno had a lot of animals on his show, at least the years I watched him. But he was so awkward around them it was rather cringey, I'm surprised he never got injured.
Johnny Carson actually hated these bits with the animals; one time they had some kind of cub feline on that pooped on him and he got sick for a few days.
He also wanted it that they do not tell him ahead of time what animal they’re bringing out. He wanted the surprise to be natural so the audience would appreciate it as well. That’s one of the reasons he was the best.
