I will love Raymond Burr and his incredible acting until the day I die. Damn I love this guy, he has given me hundred of hours of entertainment with Perry Mason, Ironside and many other films. I can't express how much I love this mans acting skills. He was deeply loved man by millions and millions of admirers.

@@QueenBee-gx4rp We have comcast which carries the METV network. Perry Mason is on it every day. I set it to record and watch it at night. You could also download the CBS app to your phone also, and can watch every episode of Perry Mason there too.
Ray Collins (Lt. Tragg on Perry Mason), got to the point where his memory was failing him and he strugled at times remembering his lines. He said Raymond Burr stuck by his side and was wonderfully patient and supportive. Apparently Burr did the same for William Talman when he had his legal troubles too. Burr never forgot his friends. Thankful for METV showing Perry Mason and the other tv gems from the past.
@@murrayspiffy2815 Also, Barbara Hale was 35 when the show first aired. No spring chicken but was drop dead gorgeous and just as pretty as most actresses in their early 20s.
How sad then that Raymond Burr died alone in Healdsburg, California of cancer. His later life was under a cloud of contention regarding his personal life.
@@mightylonesome9426 You got to remember that in the days of "black & white" TV, one's facial imperfections could be hidden much easier than with color TV. I would say that neither Mr Hopper or Mr Burr were all that attractive in those days because TV had only been around for less than 10 years and whenever I see episodes of The Twilight Zone and the primitive makeup special effects, it looks so campy and fake. But as a 12 year old boy, I would have nightmares. We have become so advanced and sophisticated that those Perry Mason shows that had me riveted to my TV even during the 70's are a hard-to-watch today. Yet, Perry Mason is still one of the more popular syndicated TV shows all over the world. Great books by great authors like Mr Gardner can take on a life of their own. Another piece of trivia about the series is that it became a debut for many actors who would later become icons like Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Robert Wagner.
And speaking of film noir, prior to his TV career, Burr played in several well-done noirs of the 1940s. One that comes to mind is His Kind of Woman, with Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell. Good flick, and Burr did real well as the 'heavy'. He generally did play the bad guy and was always impressive as such.
Started watching Perry Mason as a kid with my mom! I can’t explain how much I love this man’s acting! The way he takes a quick short deep breath before speaking fascinates me! Been watching the reruns for decades! Just watched part of an episode on lunch break today! No lie! I’m ALL in with Raymond Burr! 😎
Raymond Burr was an extraordinary actor. A true professional. Everything he did, he put 100% into it. It really shows on the screen. I really enjoyed this interview with two men that are at the top in their field.
You know, maybe I'm the only one, but Raymond Burr as Perry was such a *huge* part of my childhood that seeing footage of interviews, and things makes me miss him terribly . As though he were a favorite Uncle or something. He really did seem so genuine and kind.

He’s one of those rare examples of a man so great that even though he was ghey (RU-vid censors won’t allow proper spelling) and born Canadian, even the loudest Bible thumping homophobes loved him, and on the other side of the coin: even though he was rather conservative in political matters and displayed strong, masculine men in most of his roles, even the loudest shrieking, “social justice” seeking neo-leftists have to love him too. Burr was and still is a talent that transcends almost anything, even the stupidity of humans’ “us vs them” mentality that has us all squabbling over nothing most of the time.
I appreciate that METV shows the Perry Mason series. I would religiously watch em twice a day. However after I bought the complete DVD series and started to watch em, I couldn't believe how much METV cut out scenes. An example of how much they cut. I remember the credits rolling at the end of an episode and up pops an actress who portrayed an airline stewardess. What airline stewardess??? There was no scene with an airline stewardess! When watching this episode on DVD I saw where the scene had been cut out. Granted, it didn't take away from the plot. It just bugs me that they have to shove one more commercial and take away pieces of a fine television series.
I love Raymond Burr, Perry Mason, l enjoy looking at the reruns. The very spirit of him, his voice, comforts you. You feel safe in his presence. Such a beautiful man, with a beautiful talent.
Raymond Burr is one of the most beloved character actors of all time. It’s truly sad he’s gone and has been for some time. Even a staunchly homophobic hard liner will have to admit that they love Perry Mason and Ironside. He had That voice, the perfect baritone that is constantly letting us in on legal terms and letting out little quips that are always sharp enough for a laugh but never in bad taste. Also he had that very commanding yet rarely threatening presence, standing tall and letting the DA and cops know he’s not exactly playing it straight, and they might as well stop their threats because they’ll do no good in the office of Perry Mason. At 6 feet tall and over 250 lbs for most of his career, he was a slightly large man physically but as far as talent goes, he was a real giant. Rest In Peace, Raymond Burr.
I first saw Raymond Burr in Ironside, sometime there after was watching a random channel and saw him walking not realizing at first I was watching him as Perry Mason. Even though it was black and white and not in color like Ironside it three me off. Fantastic actor!
Not convinced he was gay; just speculation, particularly if he really had a daughter. There is nothing wrong with sharing an apartment with a best friend. Society sexualizes things when there is nothing but plutonic.

He didn’t share an apartment with a male friend….he lived with a man, one man, for over 30 years on a large piece of property that was actually a working vineyard. When he died he left his entire estate, every bit of it, to that one man. His close friends, including Barbara Hale, have spoken openly about him never having a relationship with a woman and keeping his private life VERY private. Why you feel the need to mis-represent and minimize facts that point to him being a bisexual or gay man who led an amazing life is a more interesting question.
But he reportedly had a thing for Natalie Wood back in the day. They did a film together and apparently Burr showed a romantic interest in her. At least he showed that he had good taste.
Perry Mason is still one of my favorite programs and the first episodes, along with many others, have the quality of film noir. Absolutely excellent cinematography and writing and acting.
@@redpine8665 The very last episode was awesome-Barbara Hale doubling as a starlet bimbo-hilarious-and cameos by Gail Patrick Jackson and many other production staff.. Always enjoyed Jackie Cougan appearances, and this was as good as any. Too bad Dick Clark was cast as the murderer, he was in way over his head, and delivered a wooden performance that in many ways ruined it for me. My favorite confession was when perp Roxane Berard as Ninette Rovel in episode 200, The Case Of The Fifty Millionth Frenchman blurted "I have only this to say. He was going to leave me. I am only sorry that I could not kill him ten times"! The first time I saw that I spontaneously laughed out loud-and I was by myself! Whoever wrote that line-pure genius, and having Berard deliver it was absolute perfection! What a contrast to Clark's confession. Probably the low point of the whole series, given the prestige of position it occupied.
@@limogerry I'll have to look for that one! I don't like the last couple of years as much, partially because Mason sometimes doesn't even show up until the show is well underway. I assume Burr must have asked for a lighter workload.
Before I could walk, my mother said I would toddle to the television every time the music for Perry Mason came on. I sat there transfixed until the show was over, then I'd wander off to wherever when the show was over and the finale music was done.
RIP.❤ Raymond Burr. Best hours of entertainment this wonderful actor gave us. I have seen all the episodes of Perry Mason and still I don't get tired of watching. So many wannabe attorneys were inspired by this show: Very few show the empathy that he demonstrated. However, I have met and worked with many that show the qualities and they all have said when they saw this show as kids inspired them to become good attorneys. ❤
Two actors I've always admired in dramatic film being Raymond Burr and Claude Akins. Both with incredible voices and always on their game. Both born in the month of May in 1917 and 1926 respectively. Raymond (76) died in Sept 1993 and four months later in 1994 Claude (67). Two great actors of the highest caliber.

While Burr was filming "Ironside" and "Mallory" on the Universal lot, a few soundstages over was Rock Hudson in the role of the manly, San Francisco Police Dept. Commissioner McMillian in the long-running NBC Mystery Movie series, "McMillan & Wife." Viewers saw a convincing physical relationship with his TV wife, played by the rather fetching Susan Saint James. In that day and age, 1950s - 1970s, it would be cultural suicide for both of these popular stars to come out of the closet. . . . . Perhaps if you put your thinking cap and your be nice cap on at the same time you can come up with something original and less accusatory when you comment, like how ridiculous Raymond Burr's curly hair looked in the "Mallory" film clip (acting opposite the outstanding guest star, Robert Loggia).
My family and I watch Perry Mason almost every night on cable who shows are better than any of the sitcom's that are on today and he does more acting in the introduction of the show just was his mannerism in his eyes then most of those actors do in their whole show he surely is missed great guy good person
I’m retired but find the show (PMason) riveting: the drama, the pacing, situational dynamics, excellent. Imagine, no rape scenes , car crashes, explosions, swords, demons, martial arts, swesring…Riveting drama based on inflection, subtelty, mannerisms… i love it!

One of my Marines told me that Raymond Burr visited with the Marines at Chu Lai in 1965 during the Vietnam War. He also reminded me that Raymond Burr was the perp in "Rear Window", the movie with James Stuart. Burr was great as Perry Mason, he had a great supporting staff, and played a great, honest character albeit a lawyer.

Absolutely amongst my favorites, growing up: Perry Mason and Ironside; as well as my mother's and her friends. Seeing some of the clips, confirms for me, years later, both the quality of the actor and the script writing. Tremendous.
what makes a character likeable is how the public feels about him....and who wouldnt want a man of integrity a lawyer who didnt lose...when they were in trouble? of course we must always like the actor too.....no one has ever become a star that was disliked by the public....and Raymond Burr was liked by everyone...
I enjoyed watching Raymond Burr in his film noir movies where one can enjoy his true acting skills as a villain. Many of his great movies can be viewed on RU-vid movies. What a treat!
Burr would go to Vietnam several times to entertain the troops. He also injured his hand in a helicopter accident there. He did appear in a few episodes wearing the cast.

Bad enough Paramount Plus plays the same 5 episodes of "Perry" over and over..But am I the only one who thinks THAT episode should be turned into a drinking game?( like" Bob" on Bob Newhart..) I remember Robert Loggia's TV Show called T.H.E. CAT Aired in 1968 a very young Robert Loggia Stared in it, And ran for a few Seasons great Show back then May he RIP & is sadly missed by all of his Fans etc.He was born & raised & Schooled at New Dorp HS in Staten Island NY FYI One of his last Performances was a guest Star for a few Episodes on the HBO's Great Show : THE SOPRANO'S , Where his Acting Talent really excelled etc.
11/01/2020 - I'm 66 and watched Perry Mason when it was first broadcast and reruns every chance I get. Right now MeTV broadcasts the program at 8:00 am and 10:30 pm each weekday - and I still watch every episode. I didn't recall that Carson ribbed Burr about his weight. I watched a documentary wherein Wayne Newton, weary of Carson's repeated fat jokes about him. Newton walked into Carson's office one day, told him to stop making the "jokes", and never spoke to Carson again. I didn't know that Carson made fun of Burr as well; making fun of peoples' weight is crass, condescending, and altogether disgusting.

My folks loved Perry Mason. I now have the complete series on dvd, becoming a huge fan of the show. Ppl tell me my dad looked like Burr, I never got away with anything. SMH.
When I was a kid I thought the actor playing Ironside was really paralyzed. As an 8 year old It didn’t occur to me that someone who could walk would sit in a wheel chair just to play a part. 😀
After Carson gives him a compliment on having two series that lasted 17 years, Burr comes back with a dig saying he often wonders how long Johnny would have lasted in movies if he never went to NY to do the Tonight Show.Reading the comments of a mean spirited Johnny, I think this was lost on some of you .
Burr was on johnny's show three times: 1968, 1976 and 1977. Since Johnny said he hadn't hadn't have Burr on in 7-8 years so this must be the 2/3/76 show. Mallory was broadcast 2/8/76.
That's not what the other commenters are saying! That Carson repeatedly made fat jokes about Burr (Burr was always conscious of his weight having a tendency to put on the pounds) Carson was an unpleasant individual by all accounts on here.
