Because foreign interests started buying into American TV networks, now we're stuck with a political bias that's not only spewed into main stream news, but also late night entertainment shows, and it's hideous, lame, pre-staged, and controlled as communism.
Mild swears like Hell and Damn were starting to be allowed on broadcast TV by the 1970s. Harder swears were sometimes heared on broadcast TV but bleeped out as was the case here, especially on talk shows. Scripted shows never used them, even if bleeped, accept maybe as a plot point on rare occasions and then always bleeped.
@@ehrichweiss Only mild swears like hell and damn where allowed on broadcast TV back then but ass was not allowed as a reference to the buttocks. You could use ass as shorthand for a jackass (donkey) as in "Don't be an ass!". Four letter swears and religious swears like "God damn;" or "Jesus Christ!" Were not allowed. Nowadays I thought I recalled hearing ass (as in butt) being used on network TV but I don't recall any of the other swears I just mentioned beyond Hell and Damn being used except in censored form.

Johnny Carson is the only late-night show host I’ve ever watched with consistency. I worked a mid shift, and I would arrive home from work just in time for The Tonight Show. It was the perfect way to unwind. I miss him still. In all these years since he’s been gone, if you added the number of times I’ve watched the current late-night shows, it would not add up to thirty days! I’ve never watched ANY of their shows from start to finish. Johnny was the best. Ed McMann was perfect too.

Me too. I never laughed so hard in my life, period, when watching Johnny Carson. I think I was 16 when I was allowed to stay up late enough to watch the show. I felt it was a rite of passage, and I was now privy to a world I'd never known before, and it was hilarious.
One night I was laughing so hard that it hurt. I woke the children up along with hubby. They came running in all sleepy eyed asking if I was ok. I could not answer. I was dying from laughter. The kids grown men now still talks about it.

Best nite tv host ever....I remember this and still laughed my butt off. Absolutely none of todays juvenile pc hosts come close to Johnny Carson. Johnny was a class act from the start and to the end. And can’t forget his cohort Ed McMahon. Two of the greatest ever!!!!
McMahon was drunk on the show one night. He kept talking crazy gibberish and cutting Johnny off Everytime he said something. Almost to the point where the Producer's we're gonna come out and remove McMahon from the stage. Everytime McMahon would 'sslluurr' his words, Johnny would laugh.
Can you imagine Fallon doing anything like that? They used to have guests on to entertain. It has been many years since they had one who wasn't just promoting their latest film or TV show.
I keep coming back to rewatch. So darn funny. Ed’s laughing in the background, Johnny’s comedic timing....and then the ‘not very well behaved’ Mohawk hair chap wrecking havoc. Brilliant.
When I was a young lad when life was simple and no such thing as the internet, I enjoyed watching Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom with Marlin Perkins hosting the show. How time has changed since then.

This is up there with the Ed Ames tomahawk mishap and the potato chip lady as one of the top Carson comedy moments. Comedy aside, Jim Fowler was a great animal advocate, and with Johnny's help, was one of the first to bring awareness of the importance of conservation and protecting threatened species to the general public.

The Tonight Show was hilarious back then. As a kid I always wanted to stay up late and watch it. Whether it was unexpected guests like this or Johnny bouncing jokes off Ed or the band members, it was truly an entertaining show. Thank you Johnny for these memories!
This ENTIRE clip was soooo funny but when Johnny went straight primate at the end, aggressively sharing grapes with Doc, that’s when I fell lol. Lord, this is the funniest thing on late night tv, ever! 😂
Johnny was such a good sport! Any other TV host would be running for the exit, whining that an animal had touched him! Johnny got on Doc's level, which is why it was SO funny!!!!

I always love Johnny and Jim and Joan and their animals! Watching this after so many years, Johnny's talent at being funny without a script and being beat up by a baboon shows how he was the best late night comedian of them all.
Why can't tv be like this anymore Johnny Carson was the greatest hands down. Never laughed so hard in my life. He was always really good when he had animals on his show and was always really good with whoever he had on as well. God bless you Carson!!!!!! Sure miss you and your great show!!!!!!!
I didn't know that, but it makes sense. That's why he was entertaining yet genuine, from the heartland. Not a brainwashed institutionalised puppet from hollywood.
@@DG-sf9ei Born in Iowa but spent most of his young life here in Nebraska… Norfolk mainly, before moving here to Lincoln to go to the University of Nebraska. While in Lincoln, he did magic tricks and so on as side gigs. Here is where he met Dick Cavett as I remember - Dick’s originally from Lincoln… I think they did tricks together. After college, I think he had a bit of a radio stint (might have been KFAB-AM) and then went to work for a short time at WOW-TV (now WOWT) up in Omaha, before moving into bigger and better things. He was really a great guy - never forgot where he came from :) . Really do miss him ;o …..
I was always a fan of Johnny. I had run away from an abusive step-father and never went back. Johnny became a substitute dad for me in a way. and i miss him and his great work on the Tonight Show.
The best late night show host ever, i loved watching him and he was a great comedian with the mighty Carson Art Players the many characters he played; Love it!!
Johnny has always been a gem. This clip is only one tiny reason why. I can watch all of his shows and just enjoy. He has left a legacy of timeless fun, entertainment, and pure joy. I hope he knows that.
That was so funny. I loved watching Johnny Carson's shows because he was a great host, he was funny, and had great sense of humor. Those were the good old days, and nothing like now.

Too, too funny! Johnny always had good laughs with the animals, though sometimes at a cost to the host... I miss Johnny Carson! I finally got old enough to get to stay up to see him but my birthday was his final show! At least I was allowed to legitimately stay up ONE night while he was on!
