Holy cow, what a gem episode. I have to say it's also uncanny how much Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy sound alike... at least to my ears.

Wow. They are all gone. Leslie, Brett, Johnny, Patti, Richard, Marcia, and Gene are all gone. Rest In Peace to all of them!

@@Videokid703 I think the reference was just to the group on this episode's panel. There are a few notable 70s Match Game alums still with us... Betty White, Joyce Bulifant, Elaine Joyce, Fannie Flagg, Bob Barker, Gary Burghoff, Scoey Mitchell, Jo Ann Pflug, Jo Anne Worley, and Vicki Lawrence all come to mind.

@Tyrelle Audain true. Sadly, I'm aware of this, I wrote the comment before her passing.

They should have let Johnny do the entire show as a panelist!!

Johnny Olson was an underatted talent. I was sad when he passed away. Bob Barker made the announcement and was very fitting. I always felt Barker's Beauties never liked it, when Johnny took part in showcase showdown sketches (looking at their reactions). That's why I never felt for them, when they filed lawsuits against Barker. RIP Johnny

Fun fact... Johnny also appeared very briefly on an episode of (black and white) What's My Line, on which he was also the announcer. I believe it was either the 10th or 15th anniversary show, or maybe the FINAL show. John Daly brings him on toward the end of the episode.

@steadfast1984 Could be because he was 65 at the time. But for his age, I think he looked quite well. He pretty much always looked the same up until his death in 1985 when he was 75.

It was very nice of Johnny Olson to fill in for Charles. I was wondering if you had the full episode. I'd love to see it in it's entirety.

Gary Burghoff was actually subbing for Charles Nelson Reilly at this time,so GB was absent.

Well in the middle part of the last decade, there actually was a brief resurrection of the show which was hosted by Alec Baldwin.

It was indeed Gary Burghoff who was late, not CNR. There was another time when CNR was late because he was getting his toupee sewn on and Mark Goodson had to fill in for one round.

@Kjr0se I couldn't agree more.I say cut Let's Make A Deal down to a half an hour & bring back the Match Game with a tribute to the original with modern technology, like you said.Richard Dawson has been retired for some time now,so I doubt you'd drag him out of it,and I don't know if Bob Barker would be up for being a regular panelist since he's also retired.

Not in 1975. Rod Roddy didn't start announcing till Soap premiered in 1977, and didn't have his 1st game show job till the premiere of Whew! in 1979.

@epaddon No Kidding? I had heard Gary Burghoff was Notorious for being late for tapings. I saw a M*A*S*H* 'behind the scenes' show a few years ago, where they interviewed the cast members... And the only thing they would say about Radar was that he was ALWAYS late & made VERY thin excuses! He was not even on the show himself. (Maybe he was LATE!)
