Tbh, a lot of Giorno's powers only make sense if you look at them from a thematic perspective. Stand powers are based on the user's psychology, after all. For example, Giorno can give life because he's written as an inspirational and supportive figure rather than a direct fighter. It's the direct opposite of DIO's vampiric abilities; one drains life and wants to dominate others, while the other gives life and pushes others to be better versions of themselves. Why does he have the "life shot" that makes a person feel things more intensely? Because he's an intense person who makes an impression on Bruno within minutes. Why does he gain the ability to heal? Because it's what his group needs, and he's slowly becoming more attached to his group over the course of Part 5. And why do his creations reflect damage back at the attacker? Because they're innocent creatures, and however much of a criminal Giorno may be, killing innocent creatures for his own gain is a depth he refuses to stoop to. That is, until the old man dies during the Black Sabbath arc. Think about it. Even if Giorno didn't kill him, he still lost his life because of Giorno's desire to join Passione. Giorno even tells Koichi how "dark and gross inside" that death made him feel. And then, after he joins the gang properly, even more of his friends die for following his dream. What if that traumatic experience affected his abilities? You can interpret this theory a few different ways; did Giorno's guilt over being unable to save the people he wanted to protect lead to a drastic shift in psyche, changing his stand? Or is he slowly becoming more callous over the course of Vento Aureo, more willing to accept collateral damage... more like his father DIO? While we can argue all day about when exactly Araki decided to write his reflection ability out of the story, it makes narrative sense that we never see it again after its reason for existing is tarnished. But is this transformation the product of kindness or cruelty? Like so many other things about Giorno, that's up to the viewer to decide. EDIT: Oop I'm very late to this thread. Oh well, here's a cruddy headcanon dump
