I think that’s the main reason I though Heath was great but not perfect. Finally, we get a Mark Hamill voice, Ledge crazy, animated series and Jacks look. It’s like all the best parts of them all.
@shonenlad one Its Thomas Wayne that says that, not the Joker. The full line is "Gotham has lost it's way. What kind of coward would do something that cold blooded? Someone whom hides behind a mask"
He walks up the stairs looking defeated representing him trying to maintain his sanity, vs how confident he is as he descends into madness as he descends the same stairs. The #joker is born.
More like he’s descending up the stairs trying to ascend the depths of hell. Then at the end he is descending into hell letting go and enjoying the madness.
That last scene when he strut the hallway as a joker kinda melt me somehow. Because in that momment that mommas loving boy who we knew, is completely dead along with his mother legacy.
I love Ledgers Joker. Pure Terror. But I believe that Phoenix will be the creepiest Joker ever. Why is The Killing Joke such a successful book. It's because you dive into the mind of a falling man. The only way to live with his pain is to lose his mind. It's all a fxxx joke. Why can't you see the funny side. It's not a tragedy it's a comedy. '' Madness is the emergency exit. You can just step outside, and close the door on all those dreadful things that happened. You can lock them away…forever." With a happy face. A creepy one of course.
I don't understand when people say they are afraid of being sympathetic to people who do vile, disgusting things. Being sympathetic to what they have been through is not the same thing as condoning the disgusting things that they do. Completely different. If more people could understand that I feel like our society could take a massive leap forward in regards to progress and understanding. Just my 2 cents.
Some people feel like it makes the characters seem less evil. At the same time, there are some people who were driven to madness from abuse, crappy circumstances, etc.
What looks good about this trailer is there is no CGI... Its not relying on CGI like Marvel or other DCU movies to sell the idea... This looks like it is going to stand on the merits of good acting and directing. Love that Martin Scorsese is producing.. De Niro is in it. Also has the whole late 60's early 70's vibe from the set design etc.. This movie trailer has me wanting more...
The reason this movie will be a massive hit is that so many people can relate to Arthur. Society is a monster that creates monsters. The Joker is no different than the rest of us.
I can see how easy it is to be sympathetic to Arthur. That first attack when he was hit with the sign and see him on the ground, just beaten and defeated broke my heart!
I have seen sooo many reactions to this teaser and your reaction was the best one, at moments you got so sympathetic that I thought you would start crying.
It's going to be amazing. I feels like he really put his heart into this one and is going to follow up Heath's Joker beautifully. Thanks for the awesome reaction vid!
The strange beauty of a tragedy. Sure, we all wanna see the movie. But this trailer is a piece of art. It could be just a short film . I would admire it every single time. Some People believe that a Joker Origin could destroy the Myth. You know, a maniac coming from out of nowhere. I don't think so. It's even creepier. Nice Video!
This trailer is a rollercoaster of emotions, your eyes shows how you are feeling. This is the best reaction I have seen. I'm thankful I was lucky to see it. 🤗
You notice as it goes on when he gets beat the last times he starts laughing not crying looks soooo amazing! Im so amped. I love Joaquin phoenix he was so good in inherent vice too.
After many a friend insisted that I watch the trailer for Joker, i did. I was expecting another paint by numbers affair but now, now i understand the seemingly universal acclaim and excitement for this film. Wow, this i wasn't expecting. The cinematography, intent and passion displayed on this trailer opens up so many possibilities it's simply outstanding!!! That the movie takes place it seems on the 1970's just adds to the enourmous potential for a very satisfying thrill of a time. I've heard that the film is not rated yet so that does worry me. I must admit i don't know the character much but I am very excited for this film. Love your words at the end Payton. It's gonna be a very interesting October, oh yes, it will be.
DC is clever w/JOKER face poster , noticed the "Joker Smile" in the form of "Batman", also reminds me of "Silence Of The Lambs" movie poster!! DC Comics / Warner Bros Not "Joking Around"!!! Could "Joker" be Warner Bros answer to Silence Of The Lambs" movie trilogy????? So Many Questions (I know I know "Riddler" reference)!!!!
Lets just say Joker is a symbol.Symbol of sadness, pain, madness and insanity. He's a victim of the society and the society is the true villain which covers up mental illness.Yes,if you read the notebook part,he talks abt society and mental illness. It's amazing and i feel so relateable.People keep calling me a lunatic just because I have mental illness and this is beautiful. This is art.
especially when the therapist(i guess)asked him if it helps arthur to talk to someone and he smiled. It reminds me when i met my counsellor but somehow she did not accept how screwed up my mental health was instead she blamed me somehow and it changed my mind that not everyone would listen to you. :)
I think Joaquin, is a great actor for this part. I think it may even be an oscar nominee. I Love how gritty and refreshing this trailer is. They should have called it Joker Begins. I'm so looking forward to seeing this.
Awesome reaction and totally agree with your thinking! I was skeptical about a joker origin; Just him being mysterious was scary but am hoping he breaks in a simple kind of way to make it more relatable that anyone of us could break, that, would be scarier. But I hope he still is a villan at the end of it. Keep smiling.
Heath Ledger's Joker had a different aproach, though. While Hoaquin's turn into Joker stems from an apparent mental illness and seemingly clinical depression, Heath's Joker had mysterious origins (although a theory about him being a deeply traumatized veteran feels plausible). Heath's Joker is an earnest nihilist with a terrifying warpaint on his face. He's also barely ever smiled or laughed. He's brutal, manipulative and absolutely ruthless in his undertakings. Hoaquin's Joker does more justice to the traditional comic version of the character. He's flamboyant, dramatic and gleeful.
Yeah awesome trailer! That's kinda what I love about the joker is this twisted extreme extension that stems from tragedy into a psychotic state of mind thats understandable yet unpredictable. Not to mention he's funny as hell.
Thanks Payton, great thoughts on this teaser trailer. I was looking forward to them releasing it all day yesterday, and it didn't disappoint. I do prefer Joker mysterious, without a back story which leaves us to our imaginations about him, but I am still really intrigued and anticipating this. Especially if it is only supposed to be considered an else world's 'what it?' type of deal. Thanks for another great video!
Heath Ledger did kill it in the role of the Joker, but what no one has done is act out Arthur Fleck a.k.a. Jack Napier, and his descent into madness. Very few people know what that looks like but I think Phoenix is the perfect actor for the job because I think he has a little crazy in him too.
That was a great reaction. 1:01 How you felt that scene. :) Joaquin Phoenix is truly a actor with skill. Trailer is so good! Chills and goosebumps while and after watching it. :)
I'd look into character study of this as Martin Scorsese who is a producer on this which really this trailer has the tone of Taxi Driver and some The King of Comedy, which stars Robert DeNiro in both, plus a little twist of The Killing Joke graphic novel. I think they can use the idea for a Batman film because Joker is supposed to be 12-15 years older than Bruce Wayne who's the boy he tries to make a smile on . Zazie Beatz might turn into Harley Quinn if she utters a line in the Diner scene like, "That's funny Mr. J" and he responds like, "Mr. J?" and she replies back, "You know, J as in Joker..." Take my money now for this movie WB/DC!
Heath Ledger was amazing. 1of 2 reasons why I wanted to watch him as the Joker. If it wasn’t for him and all the other actors who played Joker, we wouldn’t have had a platform to be inspired from. Gone too soon. Joaquin brought his own internal uniqueness to the role.
Thomas Scott couldn’t agree more. Heath was undeniably an immeasurable talent and his performance was beyond words. Each actor has given us a different side out of Joker and we’re able to see the true complexities within him and why he is the way he is. It’s fascinating really
Not many trailers ever gave me goosebumps, nor cause me to hysterically laugh with excitement as this Joker Trailer has. We will witness a true supervillain Origins story. This looks so damn amazing, because it's dark, gloomy, and realistic. Btw, I bet the little boy behind the gate is a young Bruce Wayne. And the Joker may be targeting Thomas Wayne in the movie. Wonder if he will kill them like in Tim Burton's Batman? 🤔
I live for your unbelievably silly puns! Also that "teaser" was a WHOLE LOT to take in. I think that on top of the origin of joker I can already tell that this movie is going to do a lot to explain why the Joker becomes so obsessed with Batman. They mention him hiding behind a mask in the trailer and it got me thinking of a few things. He says Gotham has lost it's way which is something him and Batman agree on. I imagine in his warped mind he sees himself as somewhat of a hero but he's vilified for committing these acts while hiding behind a mask. Batman, like him also commits a lot of questionable acts while hiding behind a mask but he's given a signal that shines in the sky and something about that must bother him. I'm thinking there won't be any Batman in this movie aside from maybe the very end. All in all i'm excited for the movie now.
It's not a plunge into chemicals that pushes him over the edge and turns him into Joker----it's this crazy world. The state of this present world could put a smile on anyone's face. And, by *smile* I mean this world could drive anyone over the edge. *Let's put a smile on that face*
It looks good. It has drama, and that is good for the Joker is the most dramatic of Batman's villains, we needed his story and it needs to be dark. IMHO
Love the video ... But imagine at the end of the movie and for some reason the Joker has a son and we can see him grap a knife and tell his son... "why so serious son" I would die.
Everyone is just one bad day away from becoming the joker............ I think that is the ultimate draw and relatability of the joker. Almost every single person with the right push....................
@@PaytonPlace Joker is the side of all of us who just wants to run rampant and cause random chaos to whatever level with no regard or thought of consequences just because we could. Joker is the ultimate whimsical, freeing character ever.
@@PaytonPlace Also, I have watched 300 or so of these reaction videos LOL, and not a single person despite all the clues and things they are picking out etc ect, have mentioned the religious symbolism I noticed when they say gotham has lost its way and then the joker is shown doing his jesus/crucified pose in the mirror as if he thinks of himself becoming the savior of gotham in his own twisted way and is sacrificing himself to try to do it so to speak. That to me was the most powerful, telling moment in the whole trailer.
I was truly impressed by the trailer. I was avoiding all the behind the scenes videos and photos and I just wanted to see a finalized first teaser, polished to see the vision Todd Phillips was going for. Joaquin constantly goes for it full on with every role he takes on so even though I was apprehensive at the casting choice at first, they obviously saw something in him that none of us were gonna see until the trailer dropped. But I kinda see some noms headed towards Joaquin's way for his performance, because more than a comic book character stand alone movie, that aside, this is gonna be a character study of someone's descent into madness. I have such a good feeling about this film.
You know what, Payton you should be Harley Quinn in this movie franchise. Idk if you ever sat down and watched your videos, but you have an incredibly expressive face, and your Smejoker impression is how id imagine Harley mocking Joker behind his back. If you want to, and there's an audition, id support going for it. I'm interested in seeing this version of the Joker. We never got to see a really detailed descent into the madness that became the Joker in movies and not to this detail in comics, so that alone is sparking great intrigue. The style of the clothing, make up and direction of the film are really refreshing and adds a gritty realistic look to it. Ever since his role in Gladiator I knew Joaquin Phoenix was a guy whod kill the Joker in a movie, and so many years later I finally get to see it. Here's hoping Jim Carrey has enough in the Tank to become the Riddler, wouldn't that be a spectacle!
Phoenix Joker has a kid with Zazie. Kid grows up, joins the army. Kid does well, joins Green Berets. Covert ops in the Middle East. Team betrayed. Captured tortured. Only survivor. Returns with PTSD. Becomes just like his dad. Phoenix Joker is the father of Ledger Joker 🃏🃏
The mind is like Alice in Wonderland... just to see how deep is the rabbit hole.. and fall on it.. I like a lot the Phoenix Joker.. and considering these are the Origins.. is perfect for the Heath Joker...
Is it just Me,, Or is This Trailer, The Most beautiful Film Trailer Ever... Its like nothing I've ever Seen.. I think Its because,, It Still doesn't tell You Joker Origin... Plus Mr Phoinex is a Man who can Change his Facial and Body shape method acting Taking to another Level... Compare this Trailer,, and look back at Dawn Of Justice.. Suicide Squad... No contest
At first I wasnt that excited for this movie (also wasnt to sure how i felt about Joaquin phoenix as the joker). But after this trailer I'm definitely sold.
