Same reason the country is endlessly concerned about labor shortages for essential jobs (janitors, waste management, grocery store, fast food, etc. etc. etc.) but won't pay them well, or accept the immigrants that are trying to come over in droves, willing to do that work.

I will say it every time it comes up: virtually no one waits until the third trimester of pregnancy to make up their mind that they don't want to have the kid after all. Late-term abortions happen because of severe complications, danger to the mother's life, death or guaranteed death of the child, etc. They are not murders or callous acts of indifference. They are medical emergencies, tragic losses of children who were wanted, and deeply traumatic experiences for the parents. Let them have the medical care they need and let them grieve in peace.

@@EndertheWeek the only people seeking elective abortions in the 3rd trimester are the handful of individuals fitting in that venn diagram intersection of "doesn't want to risk their life giving birth" and "didn't know they were pregnant until 30 weeks." and even then, there is not a (licensed) doctor on this earth that will actually perform that abortion. and who is admitting abortions inpatient? you have a miscarriage, you go to a hospital for emergency care. you want an abortion, you go to an outpatient clinic. how many windmills do you want to tilt at, exactly?
@ProperlyGaming

3rd trimester abortions are almost always due to health issues with the mother orbthe baby is gonna be born severely deformed and live in excruciating pain for maybe 24 hrs before passing away. This idea folk are running to go get abortions after already carrying the fetus for 5 to 6 months is nonsense and has always been nonsense.
@AdamPsencik
@AdamPsencik 2 месяца назад
Working as healthcare professional in an ER, I have a very different viewpoint I feel from most people who argue this. The rule is that if someone pregnant comes to us needing help, before 20 weeks, they stay at the ER, after 20 weeks, they go upstairs if they're having pregnancy related symptoms. And the reason for this is simple, because before 20 weeks there's nothing we can do except make certain the life of the mother is not under threat. We can make sure that they're not going to have an ectopic pregnancy, or bleed to death. Threatened miscarriages are such a routine part of life that people don't even think anymore of how many pregnancies result in a miscarriage before then. There's nothing that can be done. So seeing people criminalized or being told no, for something I see like 10+ women come in every day in our ER for just their body not letting carry to term? All the people who say abortion is immoral, and miscarriages are god's will? I can't reconcile that. The 'intentionally' doing something the body does every day to so many women as a natural process being disallowed, or even being criminalized is absurd. Post 20 weeks, the argument changes, because the thing is, it's so disingenuous to claim people just want to abort post 20 weeks...? They don't. Abortions post 20 weeks happen for saving the life of the mother, or cases of horrid abnormalities incompatible with life - or that they believe will cause untold suffering to the child. It's almost always a tragedy of someone who actually desired the child. But we see people sensationalizing the fringe cases where it's something else, that case that happens less than a decimal of a percentage point and using it to punish everyone else and claim 'No, this fringe case personally offends me, so I'm taking the option away from someone whose baby has developed without a brain.' Something's gotta change, we can't have an honest conversation when someone is arguing with the most out there cases without having any real exposure to what most women go through.

The awesome thing about Jon is that when he was toe to toe with Mike Huckabee he wasn't combative, but he was having a conversation where he was an active participant and didn't just let him get his talking points out. He challenged him on what he was saying in pointed and relevant ways instead of just parroting his own talking points. And this was on a comedy show! There is a lot to unpack in your statement. There is so much more to pregnancy, and delivery, well before you get to the idea of “raising” a human being. A woman who becomes pregnant and delivers a healthy child will never be the same, on so many levels. Don’t misunderstand me. Pregnancy and delivery is truly a magical thing. Most of the time. But not every time. And NO one else has a right, or even a dog in the fight, to choose for a woman if she should or shouldn’t go through it. I have had many miscarriages. I have an adopted child. @indifferentadvocate1737 pro-life and pro-birth are two significantly different things. Someone who's pro-choice can choose life. But pro-birth people only want women to be incubators. Being pro-life means being for prenatal care, it means being for a national healthcare system, it means being for paid parental leave, it means being for gun reform, it means being anti-war. 90% of abortions here in Ottawa are performed on women who want a healthy baby but can't bring a healthy foetus to term. The average age of first childbirth is 36, with many healthy births to women in their mid 40s. Children are very expensive, and parents are right to delay until they have paid off debts and are financially ready... If Conservatives are worried about the long term implications of a 1.3 fertility rate, let them declare so and take appropriate measures to incentivize wanted pregnancies, and not bring contorted religulous notions about where life begins into it...

No rights, no abortion access, is the literal best way to stay a 3rd world country. Introducing reproductive rights, abortion access, is the literal best way to rapidly improve standards of living. Anti-abortion policies are anti-wealth, anti-health, anti-hope.

Dictators don't care if they control third world countries so long as they're in control. (See, for example, Nigeria. Given enough time, usually generational, even a family with a Centrist ideology will end up having a Fascistic ideology. Getting into an echo chamber vastly speeds this process up and you can see this in individuals. When Fox News started its programming was low ideological Conservatism and over time it has increased to Nationalistic ideology with some dog-whistling into Fascistic ideology. The latter was reduced significantly with the firing of Tucker Carlson. Give it time though and it'll be back.

And the government has no right to insert themselves into your doctors appointments. Whatever happens to your body is between you and your doctor. Period. Ain’t no one else’s business.

I am 100% pro choice and for abortion. Still, it was surprisingly refreshing to see two adults talk about a polarazing subject in a civil, gentle tone, even with humor and some sort of "we don't agree, but let's talk about it". Hardly ever happens anymore, anywhere.

Use the term: Pro-healthcare and privacy. The "pro-life" argument cleverly puts nearly all ways of saying you are for women's healthcare rights like you are a callous butcher. Pro-choice (they will say life is not a choice), Pro-abortion (I don't think I need to even explain this one...). But pro-healthcare says it all without the women's rights people sounding like all they want to do is cut up babies and it's harder to argue against.

Interestingly enough, it was Reagan who gave us this current political climate. His Administration did away with the FCC's "Fairness in Broadcasting" doctrine which said broadcasting news networks must present balanced stories. Their removal of that policy led to Faux news and the polarization of our entire lives. This is but one way Reagan was the worst President ever.

@@janekof I know what you're trying to say, but it sounds like if women were allowed to be more involved, they would've been somehow hysterical in the reasoning. In fact, I believe they would've been just as reasonable, but their arguments would've hold more water given that ... well, it's their bodies in discussion. As for the lack of "reason" today, it has to do more with the "us vs them" mentality coupled with some cult philosophy, and not so much gender. You can have MTG vs Cheney, both women, both on the right, both "pro-life", but only one of them would be able to hold an argument without potentially throwing feces at you when unhappy.
