This is why I miss Bill O'Reilly, actually. Can you imagine Tucker Carlson inviting Stephen Colbert for a debate? Would never happen. At least O'Reilly had the balls to take a beating.
@@jhamler1 despise O Reilly as much as I despise Bill Maher. Both think they’re far smarter than they actually are, like a high schooler who just learned that the bible has inconsistencies.
“ *This Halloween rally of yours, do I have to wear a costume for it?* ” “No, you can dress up as a guy still pretending to be blue collar.” Even Jon had to laugh at the genius of his own joke
Bill cued it up by starting with the small slight and setting the tone for calling him simply “Stewart”...small but it set the tone...and then the comment of, “I’ll speak slowly so you can understand me.” Its Fox trolling at its finest 🤣😂🤦♂️
“He’s separated himself from the regular folks” *looks back at off-camera guy who always laughs* “He’s the President!” 😂 Jon Stewart you are a treasure.
If you knew what mother Teresa was actually doing you’d know that the comparison itself was a dig. Look up what Christopher hitchens says about her after witnessing her actions himself. Giving people blessing on one hand while condemning people using birth control on the other in countries with too many starving children and lack of social services already. You can only be so good while following religious doctrine verbatim. It doesn’t allow you to be wholly kind.
Tucker makes me miss Bill. This is one of the most insult laden yet respectful segments of all time. These two did understand each other. This is perfect.
I think that the best moments of understanding were when Stewart called O'Reilly out for viewing the "folks" at his rallies as dollar signs and for dishonestly implying that those rallies were for charity. Stewart has given O'Reilly credit for "coming by his opinions honestly" or something like that, but the most honest guy on Fox News pretends he's a blue collar guy when he gets a fucking limo in from his suburban mansion every day
@@monotonous1763 I’m not sure if you’ve ever heard the saying, “making money hand over fist”, if not, it basically means to make a lot of money quickly. John invited Bill to an event and Bill says, “Beck and I are with the folks (the every day people of America) that night” as if he’s genuinely there to be with the people. By saying, “you’re making charity hand over fist” John is implying that Bill is not there for charity or to be with the people but there to make money by selling tickets, books, etc. John also does the hand gesture of counting money. Pretty clever in my opinion.
“We’ll get to Jesus in a moment.” The way Jon paused and reached out to Bill, just felt like a very palpable “oh honey” moment. As if he wanted to remind him, “oh honey, don’t you know I’m Jewish? Of course I don’t buy into the messiah thing!”
Oh boy, remember those times when interactions between liberals and conservatives were fun, and not a struggle to save our democracy from the lunatic fringe?
In this very clip Stewart talks about his rally for people who understand that every political discussion doesn't have to be a struggle to save our democracy from the lunatic fringe. I think the sane middle are still the majority, just more ignored.
Thanks for uploading these videos! Crazy to watch this in 2021 and remember missing all of his shows live :/ he had such a great charisma with anyone he interviewed with. Crazy to think these two could have such great back and forth while trying to rip into each other. Very entertaining
It was mainly just O’Reilly weakly deflecting Jon’s jabs or completely disregarding them because he didn’t know how to respond. Clearly O’Reilly was outmatched but he made it interesting by not crumbling to any of the insults and taking them lightly
8:43 is such a throw away line for Jon it seems, and yet for anyone who lives in the DMV/NY area, it was probably the best line of the whole video. Genius.
I don’t like Bill O’Reilly much at all, but these segments between him and Jon were actually really entertaining. I think it’s largely carried by Jon’s charisma and Bill’s willingness to play ball.
bill laughing cause he knows everything Jon is saying is true but wont get punished by his base because they are too thick to understand what is going on
O'Reilly loves to claim that he grew up "working class" because he lived in Levittown, NY and his dad made $35,000.00 a year in the Sixties. My dad is from North Philadelphia, born in 1949, and then my grandparents moved to Levittown, NJ(now Willingboro) in 1960. My grandparents didn't complete high school and didn't get their high school diplomas until the late 1950s. Pop-pop worked for the Department of the Army and my Mom-mom worked in the corporate headquarters of Acme Markets and their combined income was less than $10K a year in the Sixties. O'Reilly was a snotty, rich kid who lived in Levittown, NY. O'Reilly is the dictionary definition of elitist.
Oct of 2021 and I LOVE watching these older Stewart interviews. Some of the content has not aged well, and the rest is just flipped on it's face. Highly entertaining, but somewhat concerning, to say the least. So glad Stewart just came back to TV, he has been missed.
This is the talk show host equivalent of Ali and Frazier, with Jon Stewart being Ali. Both are formidable, but Jon Stewart’s retort speed and composure under Bill O’Reilly’s jabs and hook punched is insane.
I think the thing that makes these so good is that O’Reilly knows that his “man of the people” aura is a character and not his true self, and since Jon is so clever at pointing out the facade, Bill can’t help but chuckle at some of the truths. The whole segment almost feels like an inside joke
Don't you love to see people from literally opposite sides having a respectful debate and banter between them? Some of the best things Jon and Bill ever gave us are these "debates" of theirs.
"How can a whole state be a traffic jam?" I lives in Delaware for 5 years and I think they do it on purpose to make the state seem bigger. I can drive from San Fransisco to LA quicker than Wilmington to Rehobeth. It's not logical.
During the day these interviews were almost too tense, given modern day division, it's actually refreshing to see these two engage in jabbing but respectful overall interaction. Phew.
Two favorite moments come right next to each other: @6:00 with Stewart talking about mainstream conservatives trying to ride the "bull" of the religious right and now just running for their lives like everyone else, because that has proved to be so true and relevant today, and O'Reilly just moving right along because he's running from the bulls too 😂 Then after that Jon also has the "big dog, small kennel comment" which I genuinely think ate at O'Reilly a little
As much as they jab at each other and as different as their political views are, its very nice to see them just joking around whilst debating. Its much more friendly than it is now.
It's a lot of comedy and very little substance, but it's so charming. O'Reilly feels so free and expressive in these segments. Maybe bcos Jon calls out all the political speak that makes up so much of cable TV?
And now, we get newsmax😢 people say John Stewart started the whole “bring both sides together to debate” but I guess it just entrenched both sides even deeper in their arguments. That’s the problem with debates, -Ryan Howard, the office.
Stewart: "You're not making sense." O'Reilly: "Of course I am, it's just you can't process it." Well damn, if that just don't encapsulate politics since 2016.
@Nobody Important One was riots about racial discrimination from a group of people who were sick of being murdered by cops. The other was because the guy from the Apprentice couldn’t handle losing an election.
love or hate Bill; that man knows how to banter with someone he actually respects, even between the jabs n jibs and quips... they have had such an interesting chemistry over the years
