This guy's got a great approach to live performance. I started watching all the songs in performance order. You could tell he was nervous at first (he did First of May 50% faster than the album version), but he really started to to warm up on this one. There's not many performers who can mess up a chord on stage and laugh at himself/keep going at the same time.
I love my shop vac. The other day I went to the spa store to buy a pump to clean out my spa and the guy said "just use your shop vac". I'm totally a suburban dude! :)
This is quickly becoming my favorite JoCo song. The perfect mix of humor and melancholy. Thanks for posting this; I do greatly prefer the live version over the recorded version. If he didn't lose it and laugh near the end, it'd be perfect.
The great thing about JoCo is that he can mess up on stage, and he just shrugs it off, unlike other artists who are uptight and make everything perfect. Joco is great with the audience.
@smoke770077 !! Thank you for explaining that! I live in a small town that doesn't have any heavy traffic, main street included, and the highway is built away from the town. So I got that "hard to make a left turn" was supposed to be a joke, but didn't know why. Thanks again XD
@plannedXaccident If you haven't gotten an answer yet, a shopvac is a vacuum cleaner that doesn't use a bag, and has a larger hose. It can suck up things regualr vacuums can't, like water, and wet leaves, and mud, and they actually are pretty freaking awesome.
Do a search for this song and you'll find an amazing video of this song with kinetic type + what you could call the "deluxe" JoCo version (back-up vocals and such). Really gives the song some momentum.
@batvette it's not making sense to me. - Buying a house/land in the city is more expensive than buying a house/land in the suburbs yes? - Renting a house in the city is more expensive than renting a house in the suburbs yes?
@Naturality its a drivin pun when your driving your not supposed to make a left turn unless the lines are broken and when your on a main road almost all left turns are not legal
@emoharry2007 He's just thinking out loud while trying to explain the song he's about to perform. Not everyone can maintain their thoughts perfectly while performing in public.

@RockerGeek28 And your point is? ... because mine was that unlike most JoCo songs, this one is the rare case where the live version doesn't hold a candle to the studio. Nearly every other song he does, the live version has its own charm; this one, I've seen several different live performances and it just doesn't compare to the studio track.
@batvette Ah i see. So your urban areas are dilapidated. In the citys here there is a housing shortage, so there's no such thing as a cheap small home in the city (to rent or buy). They've all been bought up, drastically modernised/renovated, and then resold to investors long ago.
what are the chords? his performance doesn't seem to match the chords given on his site, especially where there should be a "B" chord, he doesn't move his hands into any possible B formation.
Is it just my dirty mind that took it as JoCo having sex with it? It's loud with the shopvac on, drunken sex, etc. Anywho, if you haven't thought of it that way give it a second listen and it's a lot funnier.
If you imagine his wife upstairs committing suicide while he shopvacs his life away and can't hear her, it makes the song even more sinister and awesome. No? Just me?
