I’m an 80s kid, just been introduced to Jonathan Winters and it’s been a superior treat. Rarely if ever have I seen anyone that can match his level of wit. I’m truly amazed. On point impressions of anyone.....on the spot. A story about anything and no vulgarity at all and he’ll have you needing oxygen. Awesome talent, would have loved to have met him in person.

You are correct. Never missed an episode of Carson when he was on. In 1943, at age 17, he joined the USMC. He served in the Pacific on the battleship Wisconsin, in the Marine Detachment on the assault aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard as an anti-aircraft gunner during the battle for Okinawa, and in the mainland Japan invasion force off the coast of Japan in 1945. He also was in the occupation force at Yokosuka. Jonathan Winters, hands down, IMO, was one of the most witty on the spot improvisational and influential and inspiring comedians off all time. We have been deprived of his unparalleled style of humor since he passed at the age 87 of natural causes on April 11, 2013. He inspired Robin Williams, who made it abundantly clear publicly that Jonathan was his mentor and comedic hero. And, early on, he became one of Johnny Carson's closest friends, having already been on the Tonight Show with original host Jack Paar, for whom Jonathan was a favorite, regularly from 1957 to 1962. Once, Winters went so far as to impersonate then President John Kennedy on the telephone as a prank on Paar. After Carson was bestowed Paar's mantle, Winters became a regular from '57 to '92 when Carson retired. Winters' hysterical roast of Carson: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2lug34 US Marines drill to Winter's commands, aaaannnnd, those of four civilians on Gary Moore's "I've Got A Secret: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CYwRGd0s-5c.html On February 8, 1960, Winters received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1973, he received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement. In 1991, he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Gunny Davis in the short-lived sitcom Davis Rules. In 1999, he was the 2nd recipient of the prestigious Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. In 2008, he was presented the Pioneer TV Land Award by Robin Williams. During his career, he received 11 Grammy nominations, including eight for Best Comedy Album. From these nominations, he won the Grammy Award for Best Album for Children for his contribution to an adaptation of The Little Prince in 1975, and the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Comedy Album for Crank(y) Calls in 1996. True, though our sense of human was taken it was not lost. The masters of our society have moved to the next chapter for Ameirca. All I will say is Marxism is alive and well in Hollywood/MSM and Joe McCarthy was correct (you can always tell the heroes in history, they are the ones we have been taught to demonize). Divide and conquer.

@johnkennedy8682
@johnkennedy8682 4 года назад
@@tomkelly4336 Sorry, but I have a extremely different understanding of reality than you, at least as far as Joe McCarthy is concerned. Roy Cohn, Trump's mentor was a gangster criminal who was assigned to McCarthy to steer him away from the Marxist propaganda machine Hollywood was and is now even more (are you totally unaware of the history of the Frankfurt School and its influence in Ameirca?). Maybe you are all starry eyed about Hollywood, but that view is not only devoid of reality, but very dangerous, it allows propagandists to run roughshod over American society. Look back at history, time and time against the true propaganda nature of Hollywood has been exposed (how many times has the CIA, Pentagon, Coke Cola, Philip Morris... been seen conspiring to make movies that push a particular agenda), but quickly pushed down the memory hole by a compliant media. Perhaps you are unaware of the tribal nature of Hollywood, as it was in the beginning and has only gotten worse. Hollywood was founded by Marxists, and that subversive ideology has persevered ever since. Hollywood is about as anti Christian as an industry can get. I am no "born again", but it does not take a rocket scientist to see how often Christians or the Christian symbols are cast in a very poor light (I dare say you would never see Hollywood cast the "Star of David" in such a light, NEVER). Hollywood has always been subversive pushing ideas like smoking, consumerism and jingoism, but the veneer is coming off and now they are down right evil. I officially ended my household's Hollywood movie watching after we sat down to watch a "horror movie" called Emelie. In the movie a babysitter is planning to kidnap one of the children she is babysitting. Before she does her kidnapping, she finds a video tape of the parents of the children she is watching of the parents having sex, then shows the video to their children, then later that same night of babysitting, she has the children watch as she feeds the hamster of the little girl she is babysitting to the snake of the little boy, the girl's brother, as the children watch...We were done with satanic Hollywood after that. That type of cruelty is totally unnecessary to telling a story, and can be found all too often in ways both obvious and subtle in movies today. Historically the best horror films were simply scary, not purely demonic as now. You may say that is isolated, it is certainly not. Hollywood is all about pushing emotional disease, fear and a sense of things are out of control, isolation (the purge comes to mind). Try to find a positive white male character in Hollywood, TV or movies, they don't exist, in the name of "equality", now white males are the villains, especially if they are blond. Again, you may not see that, but that does not mean it is not there. Hollywood is vehemently anti Christian, anti small town, and incredibly insular in who it allows to work there or make movies. Nothing I say is the least bit controversial in that it is all posteriori knowledge obtained from watching most any movie today, where violence against white men is glorified, yet shunned against everyone else (outside of Muslims, who are also vilified, God forbid you are a German Muslim). But the point is Jonathan Winters would never be on/in TV/Movies today, the only white males allowed are either broken, overtly homosexual, transgender, or self-hating (to be clear, I am very much for gay rights, but Hollywood exploits gays, they use their rights as a wedge issue, and if things go south and people blame gays, where will Hollywood be, in the back of the mob yelling "stone him").

Comedic genius is the best description. He could adlib as though it was a well rehearsed act. That takes genius!

His French accent was spot on and all the other bits he does, Even his biggest fan and follower Robin Williams could not match Jonathan Winters quick wit. (course Robin was using "heavy meds" so he was a little bit crazier and sudden off the wall zany seemingly uncontrolled outbursts or zingers)

Whoever posted this clip, thank you thank you thank you!! It was on for a while, then removed for probably 4 or 5 years, and now I find it back. This is Jonathan Winters at his finest. His imitations of English, French and German tourists is some of the funniest stuff he ever did.

I agree. What most don't realize is that there is no "jab" to his humor...no "punch line" as it were.....he made fun of himself first and foremost...he played off what was fed to him. Millennial youth must embrace this type of self depricating humour. Understand that funny truly is funny.....you don't have to bash someone to make someone laugh. I miss Johnny...I yearn for our comedians gone. I'm hopeful for the future, just please, drop all the PC stuff..not everything has a deeper meaning, sometimes funny is meant to be funny...and that's all. :) God Bless

WHY YES HE WAS. SEMPER FI. JOHN WAS ALSO A PATIENT AT A MENTAL HOSPITAL I WORKED AT IN THE 60'S, HOWEVER HE WAS THERE BEFORE I. THIS MATERIAL COINCIDES WITH HIS HUMOUR. I WAS SURPRISED TO HEAR HIM REFER TO THE MENTAL ILLNESSES. GOD MEANT FOR HIM TO BE EXACTLY WHO HE IS. ONE OF THE FINEST COMICS OF ALL TIME.

@amy garrett Mental health has no bearing on fortuitous humor. His comedic genious would be shunned today, but it is truly that, comedic genius. I Miss good humor. I sincerely wish that modern youth would be able to appreciate self deprecation and a broader, non politilcal, non racial, non prejudiced view of human nature. Jonathan Winters and so many others were true comedians. God Bless all of you and may those comic geniuses of yonder year truly find the peace they deserve!
