The funniest and most decent man in my lifetime. He showed us you could be funny and not dirty and could be funny. Thank You Lord for the loan of him to us all !!
You could obviously tell that Mr. Winters was grieving about his wife of 60 years. No matter what one has accomplished in life, getting old and sick is a sad way for a person who has given so much to the enjoyment of others to spend their final years.
It's obvious that at 85 the years were catching up to Jonathan physically, but he still had his full mental faculties and his truly one-of-a-kind humor.
A genius, a very funny man & a wonderful soul. When you weren't laughing your head off listening & watching him, he still had you smiling from ear to ear with him. This video went straight to my heartstrings though ♥
I am 50 years old and I got old and forgot how to laugh till I found you again. My all time favorite an American Treasure.. What a brilliant mind and kind soul this giant of a man has. Thanks for bringing a smile back to my face that's been gone along time. I love you Mr. Winters
He is a beautiful man. He brought tons of laughter to millions of people all over the world. I am so glad I had parents who encouraged me to enjoy his humor at a young age.. He's 30 years my senior and he has always made his humor clean and funny. He always found the truth the funniest thing. God bless Jonathan for all his gifts he has so eagerly shared with us. Peace.
As I listen to Johnathan Winters, what's interesting about his career is that while he had to fight with nightclub owners to be heard, because he kept his act clean, he did what all the others couldn't do and that is get onto national television and make a name for himself. No one remembers the ones who cussed and swore, but Johnathan will be remembered by the world, especially thanks to RU-vid, because he kept his act clean. He lifted everyone up in laughter where ever he appeared.
As a young performer in the 50s having read a rave review he came into a club to c what I was doin having doubts abt night time work being good for marriage I said how do u cope w coming home so late he said when I get into bed I ask my sleeping wife “how about it” I was horrified and thought g my husband and kids deserve better but he was very nice and respectful and I was flattered helen halpin mccarney
This man was a genius. I am so grateful I had his comedy in my life. He is the Number one comedian in my book. I have repeated his Marine Corp skit hundreds of times. I still have the original LP. God Bless you Jonathan
Jonathan Winters made me laugh like no one else. I never heard a vulgar word from him and what an imagination. He was one of the greatest and I will miss him.
I met him in a parking lot in Santa Barbara where we both lived. Simply he was a nice guy who was extremely talented. Talking to him he was funny but humble! Absolutely a legend !!
He is a pretty special person. He can make you laugh without having to resort to profanity and he's just very good at doing it. God Bless you Mr. Winters; I've been a fan for 50 years.
Johnathan was above amazing ..he was brilliant . I never knew my dad but as I grew up I loved the beatles and played the guitar and I love Jonathan Winters as a kid ..Mom noticed my love of the beatles and Jonathan .. After a number of years mom told me " you know your dad loved the beatles and worshiped Jonathon Winters like me " Mr Winters was one of a kind genius ..RIP and God bless
Awww....we sure will miss him. So many decades of laughter. The kind of laughter that just blurts out of nowhere! He says maybe just a few words...then...whaaahaaaa!!! Tears start running down your face...then you keep giggling from the thought memories of him!! I mean he is just so unique! I will treasure the videos of him throughout his career. God Bless you Jonathan...Heaven will be roaring!
Johnathan Winters, thank you, thank you, thank you. I have so much I want to say. I appreciate you and always have. I am so happy you are still sharing. :-) I am 53 and of course grew up witnessing your skill and artistry. So many of us think of you, often, to brighten our day. I wish I could have met or meet you. However, remember how many lives you have positively inspired. Keith McDonald / Chicago
Whenever he was on the screen, I'd wish that he would go on forever, that the skit or scene would never end. I hope he realizes that no matter what regrets he feels, that his fans love him dearly.
A true original and genius! So many, like Robin Williams, have small pieces of what made you the GOD of comedy and they ran with it, developing their own style. You are such a humble man with an incredible gift to just start talking off the top of your head for fifteen or twenty minutes, and everything made sense in a warped way. We always felt part of your skits because you are so personable. Even with health problems in your late 80's, you still have IT!
Mr Winters, I was first introduced to you when I was a child in 1962 whilst you were filming Mad World. I told my father that I thought you were shy. Ever since that day I followed you with admiration - the fact that you lived the proof that humour does not have to be crude. You've done more than so many in the entertainment industry - you have inspired and you have endured. You are a gift to our world and I pray our creator will always smile upon you, especially during your times of pain. PAX+
the true master comic who captured the hearts of America. You are a testament to integrity and believing in yourself .I have missed seeing you more over the years, had hoped you would have done more pictures or guest shots in recent years. You will always be a positive highlight in my childhood memories.May your health level out so you can continue to enjoy the fun things in your life,God Bless!
I cried a bit watching this. Beautiful. A class act and loved him in all things like It's a Mad......world. The world is mad now cuz we dont have him anymore.
Mr.Winters, I watched this a second time. you have my undying respect for the amazing characters and moments you created. my dad [and me too]! used to laugh till he cried watching you on Carson and a few others shows. you were & are a truly great performer and a great human being.
Jonathon? I just want you to know that i was a little boy of about 7 years old, home alone on new years eve about 1972 while my Mom and Dad went out to a party for a while. I flipped on the TV to watch Mad mad world. A movie i had never seen before. I howled with laughter watching all by myself for 3 hours. I had never seen such lunacy. I loved every minute of it. To this day New Years eve is a tradition of Mad mad world and those wonderful memories and happiness you gave me so long ago.
Jonathon, If you get a moment to visit here, please know you are so very treasured and appreciated. Most funny guy of all time. My family would watch Mad World together every time it was on TV. Our time, made special because of you. I mean it! Our plans would change! For us, you made it impossible to not watch the entire movie. Yes, you! Our favorite movie. Nobody can touch you Jonathon, not even Robin. If laughs were dollar bills, you could write a check for the national debt! God bless U!
Thank you! For all your humor and greatness in being human. And showing your reality and your true humanism. You made my father laugh and I loved seeing my father laugh. 💕✌ God broke the mold. When He made you.
"...you don't have to dip me in the river, or run down the isle. I got it the first time." No one could not love this man. There aren't any more like him. He took us into the madness of humor, and the hysteria that only he could induce. I only hope he knows no awards touch how important he is.
Jonathan Winters...your next comic show is in heaven. You gave me so many great times as a kid and so I say.....GOD BLESS YOU and Rest in peace. As you said," Forget about being a star and successful, just go out and do it". Bye my "FRIEND".
growing up in that time period, I and others got our whit and timing from jonathan winters, red skelton, and all the fun guys up to george carlin. it was wonderfull to here him. thanks for posting.
What a great man! He always could make me laugh. But what I liked about Mr. Winters most is how sensitive a person he was. I could never "throw arrows" your way Jonathan. All the best! RIP
He made a mark, he was the funniest man in this whole country, hands down. He still makes me laugh and always has! Love this dude, and miss his comedy! He was brilliant and a rebel, and all the best people are!
Mr. Winters, I hope you see this or someone brings it you but I just want to thank you for your great comedy and wisdom!!! You are one of the greats right there with all of them: i.e. Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd, Jack Benny, Marx Bros., Laurel & Hardy, just to name a few. Thank you very much and God bless you!!!
have been totally a fan of his since I was a kid. my dad was responsible; he, my mom and their close friends who were neighbors would listen to his stuff all the time. I knew his records by heart as a kid! also remember well coping a real attitude when we were at the neighbor's house and they'd lock us out of their big music room when the neighbor got out his collection of blue recordings of Jonathan's to play. this was early 60's; neighbor did A & R work so great collection. thanks so much!!!!
So many times in my life you made me laugh. It was social examinations, comedy of the mind, but also a reassuring slap on the back. Telling the audience that the world is full of so many kinds of people and they are funny. John on your part it must have taken a tremendously inquisitive mind to study and deliver your characters without judgement but always with humor and humanity. God Bless you John.
What a wonderful human being. He has a unique humor and a wonderful way to express it. A man who understands his limitations. Certainly a standout in his field of entertainment.
I've always loved Jonathan Winters. I grew up in San Francisco and as a kid I heard he kind of flipped out and climbed to the top of a old sailing ship near Fisherman's Wharf. He wouldn't come down for quite a while. He was one of a kind.
Mr Winters your laughter has touched many hearts .. Thank you .. The Angel painting is of a real Angel my Grandma painted I would like you to see it ..
I kid alot...... well said John. If we could only be so blessed to look at life as you, we'd all laugh alot more. You always blessed me with laughter, and I could not ask for more.
My hero! was a comedy club lizzard,(Improv,PIPS, Catch, Dangerfields...ect) so many comics in the 70s and 80s were inspired by Jonathan. I would give anything to just shake his hand and say ' Thanks Man you are just the best' Thanks for posting
The best and the brightest! Heaven is a funnier place now... God blessed the world with Jonathan Winters...we shall not see his like again... Perhaps Robin Williams comes closest to the improvisational genius we just lost...
I wish I could listen to hours of Jonathan talking about his experience and telling us of things he's learned. We have some of his wonderful comedy, but I know there's so much wisdom in him too. I'm a creative person and feel a lot of common ground with his path. I really would treasure learning from what he's come to understand. I hope beyond hope perhaps that there will be more interviews such as this. I don't want us to lose this man of such gift without hearing from his heart.
Met Jonathan Winters at the eye doctor's office and he was a gentleman and a very funny guy.....he is gone now as I watch this video, but his legacy lives on....he gave us a lot of great, decent entertainment over the years and didn't need to revert to vulgarity to be funny...even his prodigy, Robin Williams, seemed to fall into the vulgar category with his Vegas performances....seems modern day comedians have to be vulgar to be funny...they are wrong
I see Jon in the grocery store in his home town every now and then and he always has something funny to say to you, Though if you are under 40 it may go over your head. Love that guy
R.I.P. Mr.Winters I only wish I could have been born in the times of your greatness. But since I didn't , today I can say I am fortunate enough to know you were a great man and for many generations to come people will remember what real comedy was. Bless us from up above Mr. Winters that people find the true meaning of laughter that our world doesn't lose its value with idiotic things that comedy will surrender to true humor.
Wow first time I ever saw him serious like that. Mr. Winter's you made a giant impact on my life. Never feel you did not make a impact. You made me laugh and that is what you wanted to do. You were always one of my favorites.
