Unfortunately, we didnt get too hear Jjong do opera. But as you can see, Jjongs voice is an instrument. He can do it all. He even did a metal like screamo song ie Internet war. He raps too in his solo albums. Key WAS officially lead rapper, lead dancer, and vocalist. But of course you can already see that positions doesnt apply to SHINee anymore.
Yes, please react to more SHINee and Jonghyun solos! One of the best ways to commemorate Jonghyun and his artistry is by celebrating his life, his art and his SHINee family. I enjoy seeing babywols discover SHINee and their amazing discography, and I never want them to feel like Jonghyun's tragedy should overshadow what all they have achieved and the time they have spent together. Nor let the tragedy make people wary about learning more about Jonghyun and how beautiful of a person he was and will always be. It sucks that people only ever react to his stuff during the anniversary of his passing or his birthday and then nothing after that. I would like to see more people check out his music without being tied to those specific dates.
Jonghyun very rarely did cover songs. He wrote or co-wrote ALL of his own solo songs and composed or co-composed most of them as well. "Skeleton Flower" was wrote by him. The song accompanies Jonghyun's book Skeleton Flower/Diphylleia Grayi: Things That Have Been Released and Set Free, which he wrote as well. The book is all stories, poems, song lyrics and drawings that are like a personal diary of his thoughts and feelings. Jonghyun was one of the first idols to be recognized as a songwriter and he is highly respected by many professional songwriters for his songwriting and composing skills. He also has at least one song that was wrote and often composed or co-composed by him in all of SHINee's albums since 2009. And he was also one of the first idols to write/compose songs for other singers. He has more than 70 song credits under his name in his short 10 years as an idol. He is one of the very first Idols to ever be given complete artistic license and control of his work. Jonghyun is not an opera singer and I don't think he ever had any opera lessons or training. He became an SM trainee when he was around 16 and he actually dropped out of his arts and music high school in the 10th grade to focus more on music. (However, just by reading his song lyrics you can see how intelligent he was. He actually later went on to get his master's degree in film and music studies.) What you are hearing is mostly just natural talent and the reason why he is considered one of the absolute best vocalists of all time. That is why EVERYONE looks up to him and considers him one of the greatest singer-songwriters of his generation. The more you get into SHINee you will see that Key is a lead rapper who often accompanies Minho in his rap sections. Minho and Key are the rap duo of SHINee. Key raps quite often. SHINee were originally training to be a hip-hop group, so they all have training in rap. And in their solo songs, when they perform the songs live they often all perform the rap sections themselves. Which is why we say that SHINee has no fixed roles in their group, because they all can do it all.

Skeleton Flower is one of the many reasons Jjong takes my breath away. He read about a flower whose white petals become translucent when they get wet, and out of that created this haunting, otherworldly, painful but beautiful song that's like nothing else anywhere. He wrote the lyrics for virtually all of his solo work (possibly all?), composed or collaborated on the composition of nearly every song, and produced many of his songs. His creativity - whether you're reading the lyrics or listening to the way he plays with percussion and all the other components of the music and with multiple layers of his vocals - is off the charts. If you go deeper in his solo discography, you'll hear more of his many, many voices. (Shinee gets most of the power vocals from him, although they do show up in his solo work too.) Minho and Key are often a one-two punch in Shinee's raps. You'll find many examples of Key rapping as you keep going. Thank you so much for sharing your Shinee journey.
My favourite part of Don’t let me go is Key’s rap into his high note … they all rap by the way. Jonghyun raps quite a bit in his solos. Minho (main rapper) and Key (lead rapper) are the rappers in SHINee.

It would be great if you guys reacted to one of Jonghyun's solo albums. He has 5 albums: Base (2015) 1st Mini Album Story Op. 1 (2015) A collection album (skeleton flower is from this album) She Is (2016) 1st Full Album Story Op. 2 (2017) A collection album Poet | Artist (2018) 2nd Full Album. The Story Ops albums consist of songs that he wrote based on his own experience and the listeners from his Blue Night Radio. They sent him letters and he read all of them and got some inspiration from them. He wrote all of his songs on his own and produced probably 96% of them. She Is (2016) actually got praised a lot because it was the first time an idol wrote and produced an entire album on their own. Also as a Jonghyun biased, I just want to say thank you for reacting and listening to his music. Some reactors that I've seen are even afraid of mentioning him just because he's not there anymore (or they don't even bother learning about him). So thank you for "keeping him alive" in a sense.
Jonghyun’s Solo Discography is one for the books.. seriously! He played with genres, played with his instrument, his voice.. and I tell you he plays with his vocals… a lot!

Key do rap occasionally, but they tend to leave that part more to Minho, and even tho you guys already did react to Tell me what to do, I suggest you give one more try cuz Keys rap on this song is absolutely fenomenal. The live version is reaaaaally good so maybe that one so the content dont get repeated lmao. This is the song that I feel resonates with Jonghyun's life ... We remember him now like the skeleton flower in this song. It's a memory of a flower in all its beauty, the memory of its form drenched in the overflow of emotions that his songs bring.

Thank you as always for your reaction to SHINee and their solo. So glad you included Jjong's Skeleton Flower, it shows his incredible song writing skills in poetry and production like no other, and that in such a young age too. SHINee's ballads can't be missed, so please react to more. Key is together with Minho the main rapper in the group, and his skills is some of the best in the industry. In his Gasoline, there is that technique few can hit so well like he does, and he always deliver with spot on attitude. But what is more incredible, is that he can do it all, hitting the highest falsetto in belting, or deep, full chest voice. I like to argue that all SHINee members has the most recognizable and distinguished vocal tones in the industry in a group, each one of them can be easily recognized among others- if that would be a showcase. But together they are the best harmonized vocals in kpop, and together they make magic!
This is the song that finally hooked me on SHINee. I had heard of PSY and BTS and found it to be interesting and catchy, but nothing caught my ear as something I would want to hear again and again. Diphylleia Grayi is an outstanding work of art in lyrics, music, singing, and performance. It stands apart from everything else, and is almost more of a song of worship than anything else. I then moved onto their ballads and finally their "hit" songs. Now I'm a Shawol to the core. I own the novella as well, and it is beautifully written. It's more a work of "long form poetry" than a novel. There are some good translations online.
I don't see a reason so skip. It's okay to celebrate him on a sad day. make positive memories on a day we normally would remember mostly sad ones. But I don't speak for every shawol so better do what the most ppl say :)

I personally wouldn't describe him as operatic - I think it's more accurate to say that Jonghyun has a very good open tone, which is to say he creates a lot of space in his mouth/throat without tightening up when he sings, which leads to that resonant, rich, and "rounded" tone. It's a fundamental technique to good singing of many different styles, not just opera! And he had such a good understanding of how to modify his tone and registers to achieve different effects. I wouldn't be surprised if he could sing very well in a more classical/choral style if he had trained in that style specifically. He absolutely had the fundamentals and raw talent.
